Surrender within 7 months or get neutralised, Andhra Pradesh DGP warns Maoists

Time of India3 days ago
Vijayawada: "Surrender within seven months, otherwise you will be neutralised," Andhra Pradesh DGP Harish Kumar Gupta warned Maoists on Saturday following the surrender of a Maoist couple, Jorige Nagaraju, alias Kamalesh, and his wife Medaka Jyoteeswari, alias Aruna, to security forces.
The husband-wife duo from Krishna district, who carried a reward of Rs 25 lakh, ended their decades-long underground life after getting disillusioned with Maoist ideology, the DGP said. He added that 20 active Maoists from Andhra Pradesh are still operating in the AOB area and urged them to surrender and join the mainstream.
The surrender of the two senior Maoist leaders marks a crucial step in Andhra Pradesh's counter-insurgency efforts.
Nagaraju served as a member of the state zonal committee and previously headed the East Bastar divisional committee under the Dandakaranya special zonal committee. His wife Aruna was a divisional committee member and led the mobile academic political organization school (MAPOS) in East Bastar.
Both were active in the Maoist heartland for over three decades.
Frustrated with the policies and the waning influence of the Maoist central committee, the couple chose to abandon the armed struggle, the DGP said.

As part of the surrender and rehabilitation process, Gupta handed them relief cheques of Rs 20,000 each.
In a related development, police unearthed a Maoist arms dump in Alluri Sitharama Raju district following intelligence inputs. The cache included 18 modern weapons — an AK-47, two BGLs, five SLRs, two INSAS rifles, besides 606 live rounds of ammunition, 37 kilograms of CORDEX wire, and other explosive materials.
As part of the ongoing efforts to curb Maoist activities, 13 underground cadres, including divisional committee member Madakam Deva, alias Bhagath, surrendered recently and received a total of Rs 22 lakh in financial assistance. Over the past year, 48 Maoist cadres have surrendered to AP police, and provided Rs 64 lakh under the state's rehabilitation scheme.
The DGP, who reviewed the anti-insurgency operations conducted in the past one year, said six Maoists — including central committee member Uday, zonal leaders Aruna and Jagan, and divisional committee secretary Ramesh — were killed in five encounters in AP over the last 12 months.
Seven others, including a divisional committee secretary, two area committee members, and three action team operatives were arrested.
Of the 40 cadres who surrendered, two were divisional committee secretaries and 15 were area committee members.
Gupta praised the relentless efforts of police personnel working in LWE-affected areas and reiterated the govt's commitment to facilitate the safe return of Maoists to civilian life. He urged those still underground — particularly the 20 Andhra-origin cadres operating in other states — to surrender and take part in the state's development.

Targeted attack on Jews? Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner's death in Midtown shooting raises questions

Wesley LePatner was the Blackstone executive killed in the Manhattan shooting. The Blackstone executive who was killed by 27-year-old crazed gunman Shane Tamura was a well-known Jewish figure in the community who even received an award in 2023 for her generosity to the community. The identification of the Wesley turned the random shooting into a targeted killing as many commentators said the earlier theories linking Tamura's manifesto, blaming the NFL, do not hold water after it's found that one of the victims was a Jew. Who was Wesley LePatner ? A senior managing director of financial giant Blackstone, Wesley LePatner joined Blackstone in 2014 and served as the global head of Core+ Real Estate and chief executive officer for Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust — a $53 billion property owner, according to Bloomberg. The Yale graduate previously worked at Goldman Sachs for more than a decade and serves on numerous Big Apple boards, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 'We are heartbroken to share that our colleague, Wesley LePartner, was among those who lost theor lives in the tragic incident at 345 Park Avenue,' Blackstone told The New York Post in a statement. 'Words cannot express the devastation we feel. Wesley was a beloved member of the Blackstone family and will be sorely missed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What Will Happen to Your Body If You Start Eating 3 Eggs Every Day? This is the same group that @ZohranKMamdani has been photographed protesting with. Witnesses said they heard the shooter yell free Palestine. Blackstone has a Jewish CEO and the shooter shot and killed a Jewish executive. This has nothing to do with the NFL. This shooting was another targeted attack on Jews by a pro-jihadi domestic terrorist who aligned with the Palestinian movement," Loomer posted. Midtown shooting: NFL connetion of shooter Shane Tamura Mayor Eric Adams said shooter Shane Tamura probably targeted the NFL office, as a strange manifesto was found on him in which he blamed football for his brain disease CTE -- chronic traumatic encephalopathy. CTE is caused by repeated head trauma possible from playing football for a long time but Tamura never played football professionally.

'Terry Long, football gave me...': Manhattan shooter Shane Tamura's strange manifesto makes motive clear, 'They failed us'

Manhattan shooter Shane Tamura blamed NFL for his brain disease and addressed a manifesto to Terry Long. Shane Tamura, the 27-year-old crazed gunman who killed an NYPD officer, a Blackstone executive and two others in a random shooting inside a Midtown skyscraper that houses many offices, carried a strange note in his pocket. The note can be called a suicide note or a manifesto that helped investigators understand the motive behind the shooting spree. While it looked like a random killing, the note contained clear grievances with the NFL. It said Tamura suffered from CTE -- chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and he blamed football for this. Why Terry Long ? The note, running several pages, is addressed to Terry Long, the former Pittsburgh Steelers player who was diagnosed with CTE after downing antifreeze to kill himself 20 years ago. 'Terry Long, football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze,' the note stated. 'You can't go against the NFL, they'll squash you," he wrote urging to study his brain after his death to learn more about CTE. 'Please study brain for CTE. I'm sorry. The league knowingly concealed the dangers to our brains to maximize profits,' he wrote. 'They failed us.' From his manifesto, it seemed that his target was NFL office which was also in the same building. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! One NFL employee was, however, seriously injured in the shooting. Tamura, who worked as a security guard at a Las Vegas casino, never played professional football. According to reports, he only played in high school in California, where he was described as a standout football player. What is CTE ? CTE is Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease caused by repeated head trauma, such as concussions or even sub-concussive hits (blows that don't cause symptoms but still jolt the brain). CTE is most commonly found in football players, boxers, hockey players, military veterans. Terry Long, who played eight seasons as an offensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers, died by suicide via antifreeze poisoning in 2005. His death certificate cited suicide with football-related CTE as one of the contributors.

Naxal killed, three security personnel injured in Chhattisgarh encounter

Sukma, July 29 (PTI) A Naxalite was killed and three security personnel were injured in an IED blast during an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday, a police officer said. He said a joint team of security personnel on an anti-Naxal operation and Maoists exchanged fire in the forest along the Sukma-Dantewada inter-district border. The operation, involving personnel of the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was launched on Monday based on inputs about the presence of Maoists in the area, said Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan. During the search of the encounter site, security personnel found the body of a male Naxalite along with a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and explosive materials. 'Three personnel belonging to DRG sustained injuries in a pressure IED blast during the operation. All injured personnel have been safely evacuated and are being referred to higher medical centres for advanced treatment. Their condition is currently stable and out of danger," Chavan said. He said that as the operation is still underway, other details cannot be discussed. With the latest gunfight, 226 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Of them, 208 were eliminated in the Bastar division, which includes districts of Bijapur, Bastar, Kanker, Konadagaon, Narayanpur, Sukma, and Dantewada.
