Pam Postema and Ria Cortesio made history first
Before Jen Pawol, other women tried to break into MLB. Pam Postema umpired MLB spring training games in 1988 but never got a regular season game.
Then, in 2007, Ria Cortesio also umpired in spring training but did not advance further. Both opened the door for others. Jen Pawol's debut marks the first time a woman has officially reached the highest level of baseball officiating.

IPL: A look at Sanju Samson's record at Rajasthan Royals
Sanju Samson (PTI Photo/Manvender Vashist Lav) Amid growing trade rumours ahead of the IPL 2026 mega auction, Sanju Samson 's long-standing association with the Rajasthan Royals could be nearing its end. A part of the Royals setup since 2013 and their captain since 2021, Samson has been a key figure in the franchise's journey over the past decade. One of the most consistent performers in the IPL, the Kerala-born batter has amassed over 4000 runs in the tournament and is among a select few with three centuries to his name. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! In his first season as captain in 2021, Samson scored 484 runs, including a memorable 63-ball 119 against Punjab Kings in his captaincy debut. He followed it up in 2022 with another strong campaign, scoring more than 400 runs and leading the Royals to their second IPL final. The 2024 season was a personal high point, with Samson racking up 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.47. Over the years, his IPL performances have also translated into a more regular place in India's white-ball squads. After making his T20I debut in 2015 and ODI debut in 2021, Samson had a breakthrough year in 2024. He smashed three T20I hundreds in the span of five matches, one at home against Bangladesh and two on tour in South Africa. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo No other batter has scored more T20I centuries in a single calendar year. Poll If Sanju Samson leaves Rajasthan Royals, which team should he join? Delhi Capitals Mumbai Indians Chennai Super Kings Kolkata Knight Riders Samson has spent nearly his entire IPL career with the Royals, except for the 2016 and 2017 seasons when the franchise was suspended. During that period, he played for the Delhi Capitals. In the most recent IPL season, Samson featured in nine matches before being ruled out mid-tournament due to injury. He scored 285 runs at an average of 35.62 and a strike rate of 140.00. Notably, he did not captain the side in all nine matches. A thumb injury meant he played purely as a batter in the first three games, with Riyan Parag leading the team in his absence. Samson returned to captain before another injury during a match against Delhi Capitals forced him out again, with Parag stepping in as skipper once more. Since making his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2013 at the age of 18, Samson has represented the team in 11 seasons, more than any other player. He has featured in 149 matches for the franchise and leads their all-time run-scoring charts with 4027 runs from 144 innings at an average of 31.70 and a strike rate of 141.24. He also holds the record for most 50-plus scores for the Royals, having registered 27 such knocks, including two centuries and 25 fifties. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. IPL Trade Rumours: Where can Sanju Samson go next? A closer look at his IPL journey
Sanju Samson (BCCI/IPL) NEW DELHI: Sanju Samson , captain of the Rajasthan Royals , has formally communicated his desire to part ways with the franchise following a mixed 2025 IPL season. This move could mark the end of his nearly decade-long stint with the Jaipur-based team. As per reports, Samson has informed the Royals of his intent to explore opportunities with other franchises ahead of the upcoming mega auction. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! A consistent performer in the IPL, Samson has represented both Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals across 177 matches. In 172 innings, he has scored 4704 runs at an average of 30.94 and a strike rate of 139.04. With 3 centuries, 26 fifties, and a highest score of 119, Samson has often been a match-winner with the bat. His elegant strokeplay and power-hitting have also produced 379 fours and 219 sixes. Behind the stumps, he has contributed significantly with 86 catches and 17 stumpings. "The first name that comes to my mind is not CSK. KKR should be the most desperate team," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. "KKR don't have an Indian wicketkeeper-batter, and that just ties their hands behind their back. Secondly, what's wrong if you get a captain? I am not denying that Ajinkya Rahane has captained well and has scored runs as well." Chopra pointed to Rahane's age and role limitations as reasons why KKR should look at Samson, despite their 2024 title win under Shreyas Iyer. "Ajinkya Rahane as a batter – either he opens or else the batting order has been a bit of a problem," he added. "They have a player they can release as well. If they wish, they can release Venkatesh Iyer, free up nearly Rs 24 crore, and then they can actually make a difference." Chopra also acknowledged CSK as a possible destination, with Samson potentially filling the void left by MS Dhoni in the long term. "They could look at a possible trade, maybe send R Ashwin back to Rajasthan, who need a spinner. He's played there before and could fill a gap. So that's not out of the question either," Chopra said. Now 30, Samson began his IPL journey with KKR in 2012 before moving to Rajasthan Royals, where he eventually took over as captain. Recent shifts in RR's squad strategy — including the release of Jos Buttler and increased focus on young Indian talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi — may have played a role in Samson's decision to consider a fresh start.
