Kanimozhi calls for spirited checking of voters' list to thwart BJP's plan to have ‘manufactured victory'
Addressing a party workers' meeting held at Senkulam near Palayamkottai on Monday, she said several challenges and obstacles for Tamil and Tamils were being created by the BJP-led Union Government. The DMK men should tell the people about the betrayal of the AIADMK. At the same time, the drive had given the cadre an opportunity to meet the people at their doorstep instead of election eve. Moreover, 'Ungaludan Stalin' would be launched on Tuesday for mobilising all government departments at one place to take the government services closer to the public. The DMK functionaries should facilitate the exercise.
Ms. Kanimozhi appealed to the party workers to check the voters' list as the BJP was pinning its hopes on preparing a 'fabricated voters' list' for the Assembly election. 'The DMK men should thwart the attempts of opponents by checking the voters' list. We should be prepared to face these challenges and keep the documents ready for including genuine voters and delete the fake ones. It is necessary for the DMK's victory this time.'
During an informal chat with reporters, Ms. Kanimozhi, without naming Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam founder and actor Vijay, said a few actors, who had justified custodial deaths in their movies, were staging a protest against lock-up deaths. 'It is a comedy.'

Speaking in a public meeting at Tenkasi on Wednesday, Palaniswami responded to CPM State secretary P Shanmugam who had allegedly questioned AIADMK role as opposition party. 'The AIADMK has staged 122 protests so far against the DMK government. Did CPM stage any protest against CIBIL score condition for farm loans or against rising inflation? Has Shanmugam joined sanitation workers who are protesting in Chennai? Stalin made several promises to them while in opposition, but is ignoring them now.' Further, Palaniswami said both Communist parties failed to raise people's issues, and have become irrelevant in the state. 'People have to search for them. Smart meters: Karnataka HC stays probe against George, Bescom till August 20
BENGALURU: The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday stayed further proceedings against energy minister KJ George, Bescom MD Mahantesh Bilagi and another official in the case pertaining to a special court directing the Lokayukta police to submit a report on a private complaint filed by three BJP MLAs over the alleged irregularities in inviting tenders for supply of smart meters. Justice MI Arun passed the interim order staying the proceedings till August 20 and issued notice to the complainants after hearing the petitions filed by George, Bilagi and another Bescom official questioning the legality of the order passed by the special court. Their counsel argued that the order passed by the special court is against the law as no prior sanction was obtained from the competent authority to prosecute the petitioners, who are public servants, as mandated under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The complainants, MLAs Ashwath Narayan CN, SR Vishwanath and Dheeraj Muniraj, approached the Lokayukta police on April 21. Before the Lokayukta police initiated action, the complainants filed a private complaint before the special court, which registered it for offences under the provisions of BNS and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
