Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield Compared to 3-Time Super Bowl Champ
Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield Compared to 3-Time Super Bowl Champ originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Baker Mayfield has turned around his career since arriving in Tampa Bay on a one-year deal to play with the Buccaneers in 2023.

Replacing legend and seven-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady is no easy proposition, but Mayfield's transition in Tampa Bay has been seamless.
Posting two career seasons since being signed by general manager Jason Licht, Mayfield has helped the Bucs to a record-tying four straight NFC South titles and five playoff appearances in a row.
As Mayfield enters his third season with the Bucs, his numbers are drawing a comparison to three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback will enter his ninth season in the league next season, and has six Pro Bowl nods and three Super Bowl championships to his name, along with two losses in the Big Game. One to the Eagles last season and one to the Buccaneers and Tom Brady in 2020.

While Mayfield has not enjoyed the championships or accolades that Mahomes has, a quick glance at the pair's numbers tells a shocking story for some.
FanDuel posted a graphic comparing the two former Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterbacks side-by-side.
Fanduel
Mayfield leads Mahomes over the past two seasons in every statistical category. The only one in which Mahomes is better is interceptions, where he has one less than Mayfield.
The Bucs QB leads in passing yards (8,544 - 8,111), passing touchdowns (69 - 53), completion percentage (67.9 - 67.3) and passer rating (100-7 - 93).
No one is saying Baker is better than Patrick, but numbers don't lie, and Mayfield should certainly be talked about in the same regard when it comes to regular season stats.

Now, if Baker could just get over that postseason hump...

Photos: Real Madrid star finally links up with Xabi Alonso & teammates at Club World Cup
A sidelined member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has this weekend reunited with the rest of the club's first-team squad in the USA. The player in question? Endrick. Frontman Endrick has for his part not played a single minute of Real Madrid's three fixtures at the Club World Cup to date. Advertisement As much comes with the 18-year-old still recovering from a hamstring injury suffered over a month ago. Endrick in turn remained in Spain's capital, working on his fitness both at home and at Real's Valdebebas training base. And though he remains highly unlikely to actually play any part at the Club World Cup, this weekend, the Brazilian was at least afforded the chance to link back up with the rest of Xabi Alonso's squad. As showcased in the photos below, Endrick is now stateside, having been granted permission by those behind the scenes at Real Madrid to travel and provide support to his teammates: Conor Laird – GSFN

U.S. Men Are ‘Closer Than We've Been In a While' To Winning A Grand Slam

(Photo byfor LTA) With Wimbledon set to begin Monday, John McEnroe believes the American men are closing in on winning a major title. No American man has won a Grand Slam trophy since Andy Roddick at the 2003 U.S. Open. Pete Sampras was the last American man to win Wimbledon – in 2000. But the U.S. enters the fortnight with four men ranked in the Top 13 in the world: No. 5 Taylor Fritz, No. 10 Ben Shelton, No. 12 Frances Tiafoe and No. 13 Tommy Paul. They are among 14 American men in the Top 100 in the world. Fritz is coming off winning his fourth Eastbourne title, one of the warm-ups to Wimbledon played on grass. Fritz defeated fellow American Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-1 to extend his record for the most men's singles titles won in Eastbourne 'I definitely think that we're closer than we've been in quite a while,' McEnroe said this week on an ESPN conference call with reporters. ESPN will broadcast Wimbledon beginning Monday. 'We're closer than we've been in 15 years.' In recent years, several American men have gone deep into majors. In the final, Fritz lost to Italian Jannik Sinner in straights sets in a jam-packed Arthur Ashe Stadium where the crowd included Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Jon Bon Jovi, Matthew McConaughey and Noah Lyles. Fritz, who opens Monday against huge-serving Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, has never been past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Shelton reached the Australian Open semifinals this y ear and the U.S. Open semis in 2023. He had his best finish at Wimbledon last year when he reached the fourth round. (Photo) Tiafoe has twice reached the U.S. Open semis, but also has never been past the round of 16 at Wimbledon (2022). Paul advanced to the Australian Open semis in 2023 and the quarters at Wimbledon a year ago, where he lost in straight sets to Carlos Alcaraz. The biggest problem for the American men – actually, the two biggest problems – are Alcaraz and Sinner. They have combined to win the last six major titles. (Photo by) They have apparently picked up where the "Big 3" left off. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer combined to win 66 major titles, depriving many other players, including all the Americans during that era, of winning majors. 'I think that some of it was we just assumed that [American men winning majors] would keep happening in the early 2000s, and then when we realized that it wasn't, that all of a sudden legends came in... Federer, and Nadal [and] Djokovic,' McEnroe said. 'Then the more countries putting more resources into it. We were sort of falling behind.' He added: "In terms of who we have, Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz, Francis Tiafoe, Reilly Opelka. They're all sort of the same age. I think it's good when you have people pushing each other…. 'Now, Shelton has come along. He's an interesting story. He's more like the type that I have been pushing. Don't focus all in it at 10 years old. Maybe play some other sports for a while. Go to college potentially. Mature as an individual. I think that's starting to make an impact in terms of our consistency.' On the women's side, two Americans have won both majors this year, with Madison Keys capturing her first Slam crown at the Australian Open and Coco Gauff winning an epic battle over world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open final. 'On the women's side you have the two Grand Slam winners already this year are American, Madison and Coco,' 18-time major champion Chrissie Evert said. 'You got Jessica Pegula who reached the finals in the U.S. Open. So American tennis, both men and women joined together, has never looked so good.'

Eagles insider brings LeSean McCoy back into the Pro Football Hall of Fame discussion
An Eagles insider is just breathed new life into the LeSean McCoy Hall of Fame discussion. It's hard to bring up great running backs in the City of Brotherly Love without mentioning the great LeSean McCoy. He may not be the best Philadelphia Eagles star to wear the 25 jersey. That honor belongs to the great Tommy McDonald, but McCoy took a legend's number and furthered its legacy. Few had the physical gifts that Shady possessed. No Eagle has tallied more career rushing yards as a member of this franchise. McCoy's 6,792 big ones are the most we've seen. Perhaps none were more beautiful than a 40-yard jaunt through the snow vs. the Detroit Lions in the 2013 Blizzard Bowl. His exit, one orchestrated by Chip Kelly, robbed Eagles fans of more, but it didn't stop McCoy's brilliance. He'd go on to tally 11,102 yards during a 12-year career that included a four-year stay with the Buffalo Bills and tacked two Super Bowl-winning seasons on at the end. McCoy won Super Bowl rings with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His resume is impressive. He's a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team and the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame, but is he worthy of enshrinement in Canton, Ohio? That's a discussion an Eagles insider recently reignited. LeSean McCoy is absolutely worthy of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Ed Kracz has long established himself as one of the NFL's most trustworthy voices for Eagles content. He recently reminded everyone that Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox are both eligible for Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement in 2029, but he asks another question. Has LeSean McCoy done enough to be deemed worthy once he becomes eligible in 2026? With all due respect to Kracz and McCoy, the answer to that question is undoubtedly 'YES'. Two First-Team All-Pro nods and six Pro Bowl mentions during the 2010s certainly help his case. Still not convinced? An NFL rushing title in 2013 and pro football's highest touchdown total in 2011 must also be part of the conversation. So are several nuggets that Kracz entered into the discussion. McCoy holds the Eagles franchise records for single-season touchdowns and the team record for 100-yard games (23). Saquon Barkley may, at some point, claim the latter record for himself, but make no mistake. LeSean McCoy is one of the best tailbacks of his era, and it's time for Canton to begin thinking about making the call to place him among the game's immortals.
