Odisha demands Rs 3,069 crore from Centre under RDSS
Bhubaneswar, Jul 29 (PTI) The Odisha government on Tuesday urged the Centre for early sanction of Rs 3,069 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo has raised this demand before Union Power Minister Manohar Lal during his meeting in New Delhi, an official statement said.
The Centre had launched the RDSS with an aim to reduce the aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses to pan-India levels.
Under the scheme, financial assistance to power distribution companies is provided for upgradation of the distribution infrastructure and for prepaid smart consumer metering and system metering based on meeting pre-qualifying criteria and achieving basic minimum benchmark in reforms, officials said.
As Odisha frequently faces natural disasters like cyclones and floods, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) has proposed the creation of disaster-resilient power infrastructure with selective underground cabling, especially 30 km from the coastline, the statement said.
Therefore, Odisha urgently needs central financial assistance for disaster-resilient power infrastructure, Singh Deo said.
Considering the rising demand for power, he urged Lal for the allocation of 800 megawatt (MW) power from NLC Talabira Phase-II project in addition to the 400 MW already allocated in Phase-I to Odisha. It would bring the total share to 1,200 MW from 3,200 MW total project capacity, the statement said. PTI BBM BBM RG

Judicial panel clears Siddaramaiah and wife in Muda case
. BENGALURU: A government-appointed judicial committee has exonerated Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and his wife BM Parvathi in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) scam, after opposition BJP claimed irregularities and a loss of around Rs 4,000 crore to the exchequer through fraudulent land allotments. The one-member panel headed by retired high court judge Justice PN Desai submitted its six-volume report to chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh, nearly a year after it was formed. A senior MLA familiar with the report's contents said Thursday the panel found no illegality in the allotment of 14 alternative sites to Siddaramaiah's wife in exchange for 3 acres acquired by Muda in Kesare village of Mysuru. The panel rejected allegations of misuse of office and ruled out any involvement of the CM in wider allotment irregularities. The findings mark a relief for Siddaramaiah, who already secured legal reprieve in July when Supreme Court dismissed a special leave petition filed by ED. The agency had challenged a Karnataka HC order quashing its notice to Parvathi and cabinet minister Byrathi Suresh. Earlier this year, Karnataka Lokayukta had cleared Siddaramaiah of wrongdoing. Modi to release 20th instalment of Kisan Nidhi in Kashi on Aug 2
1 2 Lucknow: UP will account for around 25% of the total small and marginal farmers nationally who will receive the 20th instalment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKSN), scheduled to be released by PM Narendra Modi from Varanasi on August 2. The scheme envisages the distribution of Rs 6,000 to identified farmers in three instalments. In all, the centre is scheduled to release a sum of Rs 20,500 crore to be distributed to around 9.7 crore farmers nationally. Of this, 2.3 crore farmers from UP are proposed to benefit from the ambitious scheme, which was rolled out by Modi on Dec 1, 2018. UP agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi said that the upcoming instalment was important for the farmers to meet the requirements of farming and irrigation in the ongoing Kharif season. Data show that around 2.38 crore farmers in UP benefited from the scheme in 2024-25. Shahi said that the state govt has been screening the list of beneficiaries on a regular basis for the efficient distribution of the funds amongst the farmers. As a matter of fact, the state govt has decided to make elaborate arrangements to engage farmers virtually at the district, block, and panchayat levels. Not a single genuine voter should get left out, Mamata tells DMs
Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday told district magistrates that not a single genuine voter should be struck off electoral rolls, stressing that "absence from home" could not be a presumption for "making a decision". Senior govt officials who attended the meeting said Banerjee repeatedly told DMs — who are also district election officers — that everyone should be given a fair chance to explain themselves before their names are deleted from the rolls. The CM also flagged her concern that around 1,000 govt staffers, booth level officers (BLOs) and their supervisors were sent to Delhi for training without even informing Nabanna. "I did not know about it," a senior officer said, quoting the CM. BLOs should visit the homes of absentee voters twice or thrice to locate them, Banerjee said. She wanted a proper survey of voters by BLOs and wanted them to work in an unbiased manner. Banerjee also asked DMs to engage as many migrant workers as possible — who are returning home after being harassed for speaking Bengali in different states — in Karmashree scheme. The CM had earlier indicated that the state govt was planning to provide jobs to these workers. The rehabilitation of these assaulted migrant workers was also being chalked out, Banerjee had said. On Amar Para, Amar Samadhan, the DMs were alerted so that trivial issues are sorted out instantly and grievances like potholes or repair of taps are taken care of. As part of this project, Banerjee also wanted drainage solutions in rural areas and flood relief to areas that are marooned.
