Michigan State SP Joseph Dzierwa was named one of the best in college baseball
Michigan State baseball has had an up and down season, but one thing has stayed consistent, the performances given by their ace starting pitcher Joseph Dzierwa have been incredible. The Spartans south paw has been recognized once again for what he brings to the table.
In 2025, Dzierwa has made 12 starts, posting a 7-and-2 record with a 2.20 earned run average. He has totaled 86 strikeouts in 73.2 innings of work, while holding opponents to just a .197 batting average and posting a 0.99 WHIP.
With his standout numbers in 2025, Dzierwa was recognized by D1 Baseball as one of the sport's top pitchers.
In a top-150 ranking by D1 Baseball, Dzierwa checked in as the No. 8 pitcher in college baseball, showing the proper recognition for the standout display he has had on the mound this season.
The Spartans will look to play for their Big Ten Tournament lives over the next two weekends, with two more Dzierwa starts on the docket.

Key contract detail suggests Adam Nightingale will be with MSU hockey for long haul

Key contract detail suggests Adam Nightingale will be with MSU hockey for long haul Michigan State hockey head coach Adam Nightingale officially signed a new deal with the program on Friday, and there's a new detail in the contract that should help keep in East Lansing, Mich. for the long haul. Nightingale has experienced a ton of success in a short amount of time at Michigan State, winning the Big Ten regular season and conference tournament titles in back-to-back seasons, which resulted in No. 1 seeds in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments as well. That kind of success has resulted in some (including myself) worrying he may be a target for a NHL coaching position in the near future. Good news for Michigan State, though, is that his new contract extension (which is through 2030) has a greatly increased buyout should someone want to poach him away. Connor Earegood of The Detroit News posted on social media platform X on Friday that Nightingale's buyout over the next three years has more than doubled to $2 million. The buyout from there will drop but still a notable amount throughout most of his contract. You can see the exact numbers in Earegood's post below: This is the type of move from both Michigan State and Nightingale that shows he plans to be with the Spartans hockey program for a longtime. Which is really good news for Spartans everywhere. Michigan State will enter next season as a preseason top five team, with some already pegging them as the No. 1 team in way-too-early rankings. So, it's safe to say things are great for Michigan State hockey right now, and the news out of Friday only furthered those positive vibes for the Spartans. Spartans listed as new favorite to beat out Wisconsin for priority 3-star WR prospect

Spartans listed as new favorite to beat out Wisconsin for priority 3-star WR prospect It's a battle between Michigan State and Wisconsin for a notable wide receiver prospect right now, and it appears things may be swaying in the Spartans' favor all of a sudden. A few weeks ago it looked like three-star wide receiver Zachary Washington was heading to Madison, Wisc. to continue his football career, but the latest intel from On3 suggests things may have shifted in the Spartans' favor. While Washington -- who hails from Wheaton, Ill. -- still has crystal ball predictions in favor of Wisconsin on 247Sports from last week, the Spartans are now listed as the clear-cut favorite to land his commitment on competitor recruiting site On3. On On3, Michigan State currently holds an 85% chance to land his commitment, while Wisconsin is only at 8% and West Virginia at 3%. Washington is a three-star prospect with an 87 recruiting rating on 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 111 wide receiver in the class and No. 883 overall prospect in the country. He is considered one of the top priorities at wide receiver for the Spartans in the 2026 class. Michigan State hosted Washington for an official visit last weekend, which came one week after he visited Wisconsin. He will reportedly take an official visit to West Virginia this weekend as well. There is no known commitment date for Washington at this time, but it sounds like these are the three teams he is focused on within his recruiting. So with all three official visits completed after this weekend, we could certainly see a college announcement coming in the next few weeks. Michigan State has been hot on the recruiting trail lately with eight commits since the start of June. The Spartans have seen their class move up the charts thanks to this latest flurry with Michigan State now ranking No. 34 nationally at the posting of this article. The addition of Washington to this class would only further this surge from the Spartans on the recruiting trail. To coach at an institution like this and be part of the East Lansing community is a privilege and an awesome responsibility." #GoGreen — Michigan State Hockey (@MSU_Hockey) June 13, 2025 Michigan State hockey has extended head coach Adam Nightingale the school announced on Friday. The school release didn't include details on the official contract extension for Nightingale, but according to Detroit Free Press reporter Chris Solari this will be a new deal that runs through 2030. This new deal is a five-year rollover contract that was officially approved by the Michigan State University Board of Trustees on Friday. "I'm appreciative of the support the Board of Trustees and President Kevin Guskiewicz have demonstrated with today's announcement of a new contract for Adam Nightingale, helping to ensure he leads the Spartan hockey program for many years to come," J Batt, Michigan State Vice President and Director of Athletics said in a press release. "Under Coach Nightingale's guidance, Michigan State has returned to its position as one of the elite programs in college hockey, creating incredible excitement both within the hockey community and throughout all of our loyal supporters. Coming off back-to-back Big Ten Championships, there's a buzz that even greater things are on the horizon. Personally, I can't wait to experience the excitement of the sold-out crowds at Munn Ice Arena this winter, in what could be a truly special season." Nightingale is entering his fourth season at Michigan State, where he has experienced a ton of success. Nightingale has quickly brought the Spartans back into the national spotlight of college hockey with back-to-back Big Ten championships and No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans are expected to be a top five team again next year as well. "My family and I are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent Michigan State University," Nightingale said in a press release. "To coach at an institution like this and be part of the East Lansing community is a privilege and an awesome responsibility. The support our program receives, from President Kevin Guskiewicz, the Board of Trustees, Director of Athletics J Batt and the entire Spartan family, will never be taken for granted, and we make sure our players and staff understand that on a daily basis. We look forward to continuing to make our university, alumni and community proud." Click on the post below to read more on the Nightingale extension from Michigan State.
