British drama spin-off hailed 'simply mind-blowing' as first episodes land
Outlander's highly anticipated prequel, Blood of My Blood, dropped its first two episodes, and fans are already hooked.
Diana Gabaldon's bestselling historical fantasy series has been adapted into a hugely popular show starring Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan that has released seven seasons with an eighth and final one on the way.
The Starz show is a veritable feast for period fans as we follow our protagonist, Claire is transported from post-Second World War Scotland to the mid-18th century Highlands, where she meets the roguish Jamie Fraser, who captures her heart.
Given the phenomenal success of the original series, a spin-off has finally dropped, exploring the unique and time-traversing love stories of Claire and Jamie's parents.
Blood of My Blood stars Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy as Jamie's parents, Ellen and Brian; and Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine as Claire's parents, Julia and Henry.
The official synopsis for the series describes it as 'a romantic saga that unfolds across time.'
It continues: 'From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th-century Scotland, two fated couples must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, unfolding in surprising and unforeseen ways.
'After 11 years of epic romance on the groundbreaking series Outlander, the timeless tale continues – or rather begins – on the eve of an earlier Jacobite rebellion. A prequel to Outlander, the series explores the lives and relationships of two couples as they fight against all odds to be together.'
The first two episodes have finally dropped on MGM+ in the UK (an additional subscription accessible through Amazon Prime) to lots of praise.
'WOW – The first episode of Outlander: Blood of My Blood was fantastic. I did not expect the ending,' @jbluvsceltic wrote on X.
'The first two episodes .. simply mind blowing. Can't wait for the third,' x_da_lena shared.
'Now THAT is how you do a prequel series! Outlander: Blood of my Blood is FANTASTIC. It's a perfect balance of new and old. And this casting?? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? 10/10, no notes,' @thattugglife noted.
'It's definitely as good as its predecessor and I'm falling in love with this cast,' Lenora V echoed over on Rotten Tomatoes.
'It's so good I'm already addicted to it can't wait for next week's episode,' Sidny P agreed.
The show has already secured an impressive 92% score from critics as well.
'The first six episodes and the four main characters, especially, easily answer the question of whether we needed this show at all with a big, bold yes,' TV Guide wrote in their review.
'The series more than stands on its own tartan-clad feet, striking a near-perfect balance between the old and the new,' Paste magazine shared.
'Lush, complex, beautifully shot and structured, this prequel is a thrilling addition to a franchise that has enraptured audiences from the beginning,' Variety declared.
In an interview with The Sunday Post, lead star Harriet admitted that she had 'never seen' Outlander but was 'aware it was a huge show'. More Trending
She continued: 'When I got the tape for my very first audition, I started watching it and it probably took me until midway through shooting season one to finish it – it's a long show.
'I especially found it helpful whenever there was a reference to my character in the series. I took that as a little nugget of information and found it really useful. It just helped me immerse myself even further in the world.
'Now I've seen the whole thing, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in season eight with the rest of the fans.'

Meghan Markle's brutal silence questioned as Harry leaves secret letter at royal event
Royal onlookers have noted Meghan Markle's ongoing silence amid her husband Prince Harry's recent troubles - despite continuing to promote her latest Netflix series Prince Harry is desperately trying to heal wounds with the royal family, but Meghan has stayed notably silent after his most recent olive branch. It has emerged that just days ago, the Duke left a secret letter at a royal event attended by King Charles and Queen Camilla. It is said that he asked a friend to discreetly leave a note and a wreath of red poppies at the Burma Star Memorial, to mark the national VJ Day commemorations. Notably, the letter was placed after Charles and Camilla left to avoid distracting from the service, which honoured the sacrifice of Second World War heroes who fought and died in the Pacific and Far East. Meanwhile, Meghan did not sign the letter. It's not the first time she's stayed quiet in recent weeks, as experts have questioned why she hasn't spoken out in support of her husband amid a 'devastating' boardroom battle. The Duke stepped down from Sentebale, the charity he founded to help children orphaned by Aids in Lesotho, earlier this year following a tense showdown with the chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka. Harry was said to be devastated by the row, which saw all sides rebuked by the Charity Commission for allowing the war of words to play out so publicly. And many expected Meghan to publicly back Harry. But she has continued to hold her silence - and it's raised eyebrows amongst royal watchers. In her most recent Instagram post, Meghan pointedly continued to ignore the furore. The 44-year-old shared a video on Tuesday showing her preparing and plating up a lemon pasta spaghetti dish; prior to that, she shared a post promoting the upcoming second series of With Love Meghan. Expert Dr Tessa Dunlop told the Mirror: "Now that Meghan and Harry have signed a new Netflix deal ('looser' and apparently less lucrative than the previous $78m one but a deal nonetheless), might the Duchess find her voice? "Not the one she volubly uses to hawk As Ever wares (in conjunction with Netflix) but rather the voice Meghan famously re-found after leaving the Royal Family, the one that talked her truth to royal power and surely could talk her truth to the Sentebale fiasco? "No, really, why hasn't Meghan come out batting for Prince Harry in his latest round of verbal fisty-cuffs concerning his former African charity? After all, the Duke has consistently spoken out in support of his wife, establishing the precedent early on and against the wishes of his family when he condemned Britain's media coverage and insisted he had never before witnessed such a 'degree of pressure, scrutiny and harassment' from the press. "As it currently stands, Harry cuts a lonely figure. The Charity Commission 'identified a 'strong perception of ill treatment' swirling in the unhappy waters of his former charity, Sentebale. It was a terse ruling that exonerated no one; all parties remain incandescent, particularly the aggrieved prince, who insists the report has fallen 'troublingly short'. "In other words, the Duke of Sussex's nemesis, Dr Sophie Chanduka, is still at large, running Harry's former beloved Sentebale. The Duke could really do with some public TLC, especially from his wife, whose own issues with said Dr Chanduka were allegedly caught on camera at a polo match Sentebale fundraiser." It comes after Harry and Meghan confirmed they had extended their deal with Netflix, having signed a new "multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects". While the Duchess was quick to celebrate the signing, experts claimed that the deal is a downgrade for the couple.

Robbie Williams reveals new song written from point of view of a famous singer's
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Robbie Williams has revealed that his new song is written from the perspective of Morrissey's stalker. The former Take That singer, 51, is set to release a new album titled Britpop in October this year. At a Q&A event with Joe Lycett, Robbie played his album for some of the press and spoke about the unique inspiration for one of the songs on the album. The eighth song on the tracklist is titled Morrissey and focuses on the Smiths singer – through the eyes of an infatuated stalker. 'It's great because that particular track is a song made by Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow about Morrissey,' Robbie said. Joe replied: 'I thought, I want to see what the Morrissey song's about, and it's it surprised me because it's really tender and you're very considerate about him in a way that I wouldn't be.' In response to this, Robbie replied sincerely: 'The reason I'm considerate about him is because I'm writing it from the point of view of a stalker. 'So it's, it's somebody that's stalking Morrissey and is completely obsessed and in love with him.' Robbie and Morrissey have had a quirky relationship over the years, with the duo speaking about each other in various press interviews over the years. In his official biography, Reveal, Robbie said that he had grand plans to kiss Morrissey on stage after performing a duet together, much like Britney and Madonna back in the day. 'I was bang up for that. Kissing Morrissey! That would have been great. Because he's just got, like, a fiercely brilliant face. You know, watching the idolatry that surrounds him, thousands and thousands of straight men, I think, would sleep with Morrissey. And I might not sleep with Morrissey, but I'd have a cuddle and a kiss. It would have been amazing,' he said. Alas, the big kiss didn't take place, but Robbie claims he was well up for it. 'I think he was probably maybe a bit bluffing. Maybe. But I wasn't. I'd have wrestled him to the floor. And dominated him.' The album is preceded by two singles, Rocket in May 2025 and Spies in July 2025. More Trending Robbie has said that he has spent a lot of time trying to chase the fame he had in his early solo career with hits like Angels and Millennium, but has since found his sound with his new album. '[I was] Musically, a bit aimless for a little while. Because I haven't known really what to do, I've chased yesterday an awful lot, which happens. 'Fortunately for me, I was in the pocket for so long and my rise was so long and then when, you know, commercial radio or whatever stops playing you and you think, 'oh shit, what was it that I did' and then you look backwards and I've just spent the last 15 years looking backwards. 'I just think with this album, if I am gonna move backwards, I might as well just clear the decks, go back to the start and head off from there.' Got a story? Love Island 2025 gets highest number of Ofcom complaints since 2021
The latest season of Love Island will not be investigated by Ofcom, the watchdog has confirmed, despite receiving tens of thousands of complaints from ITV viewers. TV watchers logged over 14,000 complaints about the behaviour on the show, which saw Toni Laites and Cach Mercercome come out on top of the drama-filled season. In what was the highest number of complaints since 2021, the 14,154 reports to Ofcom related to alleged bullying, abusive behaviour and misogyny. The highest number of complaints came after the July 24 episode, in which viewers were concerned about the alleged bullying of Shakira Khan and 3,547 complaints were lodged. In other scenes on the show, viewers were also unhappy with Dejon Noel-Williams' behaviour towards Megan Moore. However, Ofcom has now said that they have decided not to take the complaints any further, saying the behaviour on the show was 'not shown in a positive light' and is in line with what viewers expect from the format. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A watchdog spokesperson said: 'We carefully assessed the complaints we received about this series of Love Island. 'We recognise that emotionally charged or confrontational scenes can upset some viewers. But, in our view, negative behaviour in the villa was not shown in a positive light, and contestants were seen supporting or apologising to each other. 'We also took into account that the format of this reality show is well-established, and viewers would expect to see highs and lows as relationships and friendships are tested.' Yet Love Island viewers at the time were not best pleased by the behaviour on the Maya Jama-hosted show. Last year saw a much lower 3,500 complaints lodged, but did not surpass 2021's series – which was won by Liam Reardon and Millie Court – when 36,000 complaints were submitted. ITV has said that participants receive training about 'mutually respectful behaviour in relationships' and 'behaviour patterns associated with controlling and coercive behaviour' ahead of entering the villa. They also receive psychological support throughout the show as well as an aftercare package which includes further support. Through the season this summer, Love Island viewers took to social media to complain about the behaviour in the villa. But no you allowed this to go on watched by them. Then wonder why people are going Ofcom. A mean spiritedness was foisted on this series which was UNCALLED for. Love Island for shame.'
