The film marked the directorial comeback of the actor's daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth, after a hiatus of nine years. Initially, the film was supposed to start streaming on the OTT platform in March of the same year, but due to unknown reasons, it was not released.
But now, after almost a year, the makers have finally announced the official OTT release date of Lal Salaam. The film will be streaming on SUN NXT from June 6, on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha.
Taking to X, the digital platform dropped an intriguing motion poster of Rajinikanth and wrote, 'Stay tuned and Guess who's firing up the screen this Bakrid?"

Lal Salaam follows the story of two close friends, Thiru and Shamsuddin, who are talented cricketers from Murarbad and share a strong bond despite different religious backgrounds. Their friendship is tested when a politician's son exploits their rivalry during elections to spark a heated cricket match, potentially causing communal tensions in their village.
It explores the themes of sports, friendship and social harmony, focusing on the impact of a rivalry between two cricket teams and the relationship between two friends and their communities.
Apart from Rajinikanth, the film also featured Vishnu Vishal, Vikranth, Senthil, Jeevitha, KS Ravikumar and Thambi Ramaiah in significant roles.
Backed by Lyca Productions, the film was written by Vishnu Rangaswamy with music by AR Rahman.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth has already wrapped up the shooting for his next project, Coolie. Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film will be hitting the big screens on August 14 this year. It also features Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra Rao, Sivakarthikeyan and Shruti Haasan in significant roles.
It will be facing a big box office clash with the highly anticipated action thriller, War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani in the lead.

He traced their journey together from Nayakan to their upcoming film, calling him a 'source of strength" in his life. Kamal Haasan posted a monochrome photo with Mani Ratnam and wrote, 'Happy Birthday, Mani Ratnam. From Nayakan to Thug Life, we've journeyed through time together — as colleagues, family, co-dreamers, and above all, as lifelong students of cinema. Through every chapter, your presence has been a source of strength — a mind I turn to in moments of doubt, and a soul deeply attuned to the language of film like few others. Kamal Haasan's statement on Kannada-Tamil didn't go down well with pro-Kannada organisations in Karnataka. However, the South megastar has clearly stated that he will apologise only if he feels he is wrong. He further urged others not to 'tamper" with his lifestyle, as the controversy snowballs. 'If I'm wrong, I'll apologise. If I'm not, I won't. This is my lifestyle, please don't tamper with it," the Nayakan actor told India Today. He added, 'India is a democratic country, and I believe in law and justice." The 70-year-old actor's reaction comes after the pro-Kannada organisation Karnataka Rakshana Vedike filed a complaint against him with Bengaluru Police on Wednesday. The group, led by Praveen Shetty, has also requested an FIR against the actor-politician for his remark. They filed the complaint at the RT Nagar police station, seeking legal action against the actor. In their complaint, the organisation claimed that the actor's 'controversial statement" not only hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas but also created discord between Kannadigas and Tamils and insulted Kannadigas. The actor's comments have sparked outrage among several pro-Kannada groups, leading to protests against Haasan in various parts of the state, including Belagavi, Mysuru, Hubballi, and Bengaluru. From laughter to emotion, the movie delivers it all. But before you stream it on OTT, here are five interesting facts that make this Tamil family drama a must-watch. 1. Director made his debut at 24 Abishan Jeevinth made his directorial debut with Tourist Family at just 24. What makes this even more impressive is that he had no experience as an assistant director. A year later, his short film Nodigal Pirakatha went viral, crossing millions of views. 2. While it drew inspiration from the Kamal Haasan -starrer, the story soon found its own path. The film shifts focus to a Tamil family fleeing Sri Lanka during a financial crisis. It blends emotion and humor while exploring their struggle to survive and rebuild a life. 3. Heart Beat fame Yogalakshmi's debut Tourist Family marks Yogalakshmi's first appearance in a feature film. Highest-grossing movie of Sasikumar's career Tourist Family has become the biggest box office success of Sasikumar's career. At a press meet, the actor shared that the film has outperformed his previous hits like Sundarapandian and Kutti Puli. It reportedly collected around Rs 2.5 crore on its opening day.
