Seven thousand runners and walkers filled the streets of Parkview on the morning of July 13 for the annual Rockies Gerald Fox Memorial Race.
The race, which began outside the Johannesburg Zoo, saw runners and walkers complete the 5, 10 and 21.1km.
The director of the Rockies Gerald Fox Memorial Race, Saul Levin, said the annual race was in honour of their member who was brutally killed.
'We are 50 years old this year and have probably hosted the race for 40-odd years. The race is about having fun and allowing runners to enjoy and run through hills and their neighbourhood hills. '

Team Vitality club manager, Peteni Kuzwayo, explained that the Rockies race was their second series of running events in Johannesburg.
'We started in Orlando, Soweto, and today we are at the Zoo Lake in partnership with the Rockies Road Runners Club. The turnout was great, approximately 2 000 participants were part of Vitality.
Kuzwayo concluded that he looked forward to the next three running events, which will be in Randburg, and at Old Edwardians Society and the DP World Wanderers Stadium.

'Passport is ready': Mama Joy to support MaMkhize's new club?

South Africa's most recognisable sports supporter, Mama Joy – real name Joy Chauke – has pledged her allegiance to MaMkhize's new soccer club, Mbalane Highlanders AM FC. This comes months after the businesswoman's South African team, Royal AM, for which Chauke was an unofficial ambassador, was expelled from the PSL. Over the weekend, MaMkhize confirmed that she had inked a three-year presidency deal with the eSwatini club. In a post on her X account, Mama Joy not only praised MaMkhize's new venture as Mbalane Highlanders AM FC president but also offered her support. She posted: 'Mbabane Highlanders Am FC, we are ready to cross the border to Eswatini. Passports are ready.' In another post, she shared about MaMkhize: 'Back with a bang'. Just a few months ago, Mama Joy – who branded herself as 'Royal AM's number one fan', shared an emotional post about the end of the road for the club. Posting a collage of pics of her supporting Thwili Thwala, she shared: 'It's over…thanks Ma for giving me an opportunity to be Royal Am superfan. You treated me with dignity, with love, like one of your family members. I enjoyed [it] and thank other Royal Am supporters for showing me love. Royal Am was my family.' Mama Joy went on to post that she now faced 'no home' in the PSL. In 2023, Mama Joy denied reports that she was on MaMkhize's payroll as a then Royal AM supporter. Speaking on Robert Marawa's Marawa Sports Worldwide , Chauke admitted she was friends with the businesswoman and often attended the PSL club games. Mama Joy and MaMkhizeImages via X: @joychauke5 When Robert bluntly asked if MaMkhize paid her for her unofficial ambassadorship, she responded: 'No. People are going to say, 'You chowed Mamkhize's money'. I don't know what to say! 'I'm a Royal AM supporter, and she will follow me and check in on me. I don't get paid by her for what I do. I do it for the love of the game'. The special meaning behind Manie Libbok's wristband message

Manie Libbook has remained firm in his faith after sharing another motivational message on his wristband over the weekend. This comes as the Springbok flyhalf admitted he had worked on his penalty kicking amid public backlash. According to reports, Libboks is set to move to Japan after cutting short his contract with the Stormers. As he has previously done, Manie Libbok shared a special message for himself and the public on his wristband during the Springboks' game against Italy in Gqeberha over the weekend. The mantra simply read: 'God did'. The Bok fly-half was a crucial element in South Africa's second consecutive win over the European country. But while he is now receiving high praise, just a few months ago, it was a different story. Last September, Manie Libbok was mercilessly trolled on social media after he missed a penalty kick against Argentina that would have likely secured victory for South Africa. After bouncing back, Manie posted a message of resilience on his social media. Sharing pics of behind-the-scenes action, he shared: 'You know that God did, he never gon' fail on us.' This week, Manie Libbok admitted that he had worked hard at improving his penalty-kicking performances after that infamous stint in Santiago last year. He shared: 'I didn't have a good record in kicking for poles…I identified the situation, and it freed me up to focus more on my open play and executing our plans, driving the team around the park, and putting us in a position to score tries. He continued: 'It's one area of my game I've worked really hard on to get right in the past few months…My focus now is just to improve on that performance and do my best to get it right'. Manie Libbok is also set for a new chapter in Japan, reportedly with the Hanazono Liners. Last month, Stormers boss John Dobson revealed Manie had cut short his contract to play abroad. Holding no grudges, he said in a press conference: 'We've had a fantastic journey with him. He's a massive loss. Manie got an eye-watering offer from Japan, and it's a life-changing amount of money. It'll change his whole family's life. He added: 'Manie goes with blessing… and an open invitation to come back.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 . Willie Le Roux shares message to young players after 100th cap

Springbok Willie Le Roux has shared an emotional message after making his 100th test match appearance. Images via Instagram: @wjjleroux Willie Le Roux has encouraged up-and-coming rugby players not to give up on their dreams after he made his 100th test appearance for the Springboks over the weekend. The 35-year-old made his debut for the South African national rugby team in 2013. He has played in three Rugby World Cups, the last two of which the Boks have won. WILLIE LE ROUX SHARES EMOTIONAL MESSAGE AFTER 100TH CAP In an emotional Instagram post, Willie Le Roux thanked the public for their well-wishes on his 100th test match. The cap took place on Saturday, 12 July, in South Africa's game against Italy at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Gqeberha. ADVERTISEMENT SA won the game 45-0. Sharing a collage of pictures for the special occasion, Willie posted: 'Playing my 100th test match for the Springboks is something I've wanted since I was a child. It's a moment that feels so surreal and incredibly humbling. 'The journey to get to here was never easy…there were definitely some tough times – injuries, doubts, setbacks – moments where the road ahead felt way too steep. But I held onto belief and kept pushing. Because when you love something this deeply, you find a way to keep going. Willie le Roux used his own experience to encourage other aspiring rugby players. He continued: 'Believe in your dreams. No matter where you come from, no matter how far away your goals may seem – it is possible. It does, however, take a lot of hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and heart'. WHO IS THE HIGHEST CAPPED SPRINGBOK? The highest-capped Springbok is currently Eben Etzebeth, who has made 132 appearances in green and gold. Last October, the 33-year-old surpassed Victor Matfield's previous record of 127 caps. Apart from the duo, only six more Springboks have surpassed 100 test caps: Bryan Habana, Tendai Mtawarira, John Smit, Jean de Villiers, Percy Montgomery, and now Willie le Roux. In an Instagram post, Eben congratulated Willie on his achievement. He posted: 'What a privilege to know you and share a rugby field with you for the last few years. You are a legend, my brother and an incredible person'. He added: 'WLR100 sounds just about right!'. HOW MANY CAPS DO YOU THINK WILLIE LE ROUX WILL MAKE IN HIS CAREER?
