Refracted sunlight sparks blaze across two homes in Basingstoke

Sunlight refracted through glass has sparked a fire which spread to two homes.It started on a wooden fence before moving to the terraced houses in Dorset Crescent in Basingstoke at about 16:00 BST on Saturday, said the fire service.It was an "important reminder to ensure that glass ornaments and mirrors are kept out of sunlight, particularly in hot weather", Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said.Firefighters returned to their station at about 18:00, after conducting other home fire safety visits.

People visiting the scene of a major moorland wildfire to take photos have been asked to stay away, as crews remain at the fire broke out near RAF Fylingdales on Langdale Moor near Pickering, North Yorkshire, last Monday its peak, 19 fire appliances were at the scene and a major incident was declared. Crews continue to work to damp down and are being supported by partner agencies with putting fire breaks in. "A helicopter is in use again today to drop water." There have been reports of smoke drifting as far as Skipton, York and Tadcaster, and people living nearby have been asked to keep windows and doors cause of the fire is not yet Fire Officer Jonathan Dyson thanked everyone who had helped in the effort to put out the fire this week."Our crews, control room staff and officers have worked around the clock this past week to tackle the moorland fire at Langdale," he said."It's been especially hot and tiring work for the crews and officers at the scene."The generosity of communities and businesses through donations, support and well wishes has been truly outstanding."I'm especially grateful to local farmers, gamekeepers and partner agencies who've assisted on the ground and to our neighbouring fire services for providing additional resources." Eleven fire crews tackle Halifax derelict mill blaze

Fire crews have been tackling a blaze at a derelict mill that saw a large plume of black smoke rise above fire broke out just before 19:00 BST on Saturday at the building in Cinderhill Works in the Siddal Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) said 11 crews were sent to the scene, using large jets and an aerial appliance to put out the fire. The service said its control room received 80 calls within five minutes when the smoke was first seen. The building was said to be about 65ft x 98ft (20m x 30m) in size, and half of it was engulfed in flames. WYFRS said the incident concluded at 01:30 BST on Sunday and thanked members of the public who respected the cordon and followed safety advice to keep doors and windows shut.
