2025 Baylor Football Predictions: Bears Ranked 44th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

This isn't your average college football ranking.
My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list:
Who do I think is good?
Why do I think they're good?
What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations?
Here is a look at where Baylor lands in my Ultimate 136.

Last year's ranking: 63
Top player: QB Sawyer Robertson: Finished fifth in the Big 12 in pass yards with 3,071 and second in pass TDs with 28; one of 21 players in FBS to throw for 3,000+ yards and 25+ pass TDs last season.

RJ's take: Dave Aranda's Bears won six of their last seven games, with their loss coming to LSU. In Year 6, Aranda believes he has the most talented team he's ever had in Waco, Texas. And remember, his team finished 12-2 in 2021.

Pairing offensive coordinator Jake Spavital with QB Sawyer Robertson could prove lethal for the Big 12. Robertson didn't win the job in preseason camp, and he still finished with 3,071 passing yards, 32 total TDs and eight INTs.
They get a chance to lay down a marker against Auburn in Week 1 and SMU in Week 2. And those are the toughest opponents they play before Arizona State. 10 wins is in the offering if Aranda is right about his team's talent.

Johnson states, 'I think OZ (Olamide Zaccheaus) is doing a great job of being where he's supposed to be and he's being a professional about it…I would say throughout the course of spring and camp so far, those are the four that I'd bring up first.' Zaccheus has not only made an impression on Johnson, but he's also been a standout to fans and the Bears media. BearReport's Zack Pearson, Marc Silverman of ESPN 1000, and others have commented on Zaccheus' performance during camp so far as he has been getting a considerable amount of reps. He's been making plays every day of camp and building chemistry with starting quarterback Caleb Williams. The Bears joint practice with the Miami Dolphins was no different as Zaccheus connected with Williams for a 70-yard touchdown. Overall, Zaccheus has been a reliable, consistent, and hard-working player who will provide some stability to a new offense and act as a go-to target for the second-year quarterback. "This team is built to throw the football. You got DJ Moore, you got Rome Odunze, you drafted Luther Burden and Colston Loveland, you fortified the offensive line, and then brought in Ben Johnson ... I think for the first time in Bears history, we see a 4000-yard passer," Fulghum stated. Fulghum makes mention of Williams' skills in college, where he was named the Hesiman Trophy winner in 2022. To the young passer's credit, he already threw for over 3,500 yards in his rookie season, meaning he can certainly surpass 4,000 yards in 2025. Williams and the offense will need to click, and the world might be able to see that chemistry soon. The second-year signal caller was not showcased in the first preseason game, but he may make an appearance for a series when the Bears take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Aug. 17. Should Williams surpass the 4,000 yards mark, he will become the first Bears quarterback to do so, which is shocking considering how long the team has been in the NFL. Caleb Williams' 2024 struggles become 2025's high expectations
There are a lot of things to be excited for with the Chicago Bears. Some public commentators are guarding that excitement for what quarterback Caleb Williams will do this season. With the lack of success Caleb Williams had last season, and given all the new acquisitions the Bears have made this offseason, experts are giving Caleb little to no room for error. There are a few quarterbacks heading into this season with a lot to prove. While some face a year which could be their last chance to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, second-year quarterback Caleb Williams has been labeled as the quarterback with the most to prove this season. Vincent Parise analyzes former Trojan quarterback Caleb Williams being under dire pressure to succeed this season in a recent feature for Bears Wire: "Their youth, led by second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, gives them hope, but it's very unproven. It is going to take some time for them to show their full potential, if they do ever reach it. The national media is pretty 'in the middle' when it comes to projecting the Bears. Most of that stems from the unknown surrounding the quarterback situation. On ESPN's First Take, commentator and former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky said Williams is the quarterback with the most to prove in the NFL this season. He was the top guy on a list, followed by Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars), J.J. McCarthy (Minnesota Vikings), Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers), and Anthony Richardson (Indianapolis Colts). "'It is go time for Caleb Williams,' Orlovsky said. 'You have to go out and show that you are the talent, the player, and the future of the organization for a team and a place that desperately has been begging for it.' Although Orlovsky has had some controversial takes throughout his tenure in broadcasting, nothing he said is necessarily wrong. Although, you could argue a pair of former No. 1 picks should be higher than Williams on that list given their situations and the fact that Williams is only entering his second season." It would be a disappointment if Caleb Williams did not have a successful season under Ben Johnson, but he should get some grace given this is his first year in one of the more complex offenses in the NFL. With Caleb Williams' talent and work ethic, coupled with Ben Johnson's track record as a offensive guru, Bears fans should be optimistic that this year being a failure with Caleb and Ben Johnson is one of the least probable outcomes we will see in 2025. At the very least, if it isn't a playoff season for the Chicago Bears, we should still expect to see Caleb take necessary steps as a passer and show a great amount of growth in Year 2. Caleb's overall development carries way more weight than the Bears being a first round exit this season.
