Fireball rises from ground as manhole explodes in Brooklyn: Pedestrians flee to safety in viral video

As soon as the giant fireball rises, people scatter to get to safety while screaming. According to a New York Post report, the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) said Con Ed responded to the scene. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
Another manhole erupts in Brooklyn:
The post reported that about two hours after the manhole exploded, a similar incident left EMS personnel rushing to Lewis Avenue and Pulaski Street. According to the FDNY, it was due to another manhole fire, which occurred less than a mile away from the first scene. Reportedly, during the second explosion, the fire got dangerously close to some businesses and vehicles.
'Green flames' come out of the manhole:
Earlier this year, another incident involving a manhole in Texas freaked people out - a video captured 'eerie green flames' coming out of a manhole at a college.
'All the active fire that we know of that we have been able to identify, it is gone, it is out. We can't rule out there may be some small areas with still some smoldering fire underground, but there is no evidence at all that there is any active fire,' Deputy Chief Wilson said at a press conference at the time.
An X user posted the video with the caption, 'Green/yellow flames are blowing out of the manhole covers from the sewers.'

India has been added to the United Kingdom's expanded 'Deport Now Appeal Later' list of 23 countries, under which foreign criminals will be deported before they can appeal against the decision. Explaining the rationale behind the decision, the country's home secretary Yvette Cooper said, 'For far too long, foreign criminals have been exploiting our immigration system, remaining in the UK for months or even years while their appeals drag on. That has to end,' reported news agency PTI. She added, 'Those who commit crimes in our country cannot be allowed to manipulate the system, which is why we are restoring control and sending a clear message that our laws must be respected and will be enforced.' Who all are on the list Previously, the list included Finland, Nigeria, Estonia, Albania, Belize, Mauritius, Tanzania and Kosovo. The expanded list now adds India, Angola, Australia, Botswana, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Guyana, Indonesia, Kenya, Latvia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Uganda and Zambia. The UK government said discussions are ongoing with other nations to join the scheme. 'We are leading diplomatic efforts to increase the number of countries where foreign criminals can be swiftly returned, and if they want to appeal, they can do so safely from their home country,' said UK foreign secretary David Lammy. According to the home office, the new approach will reduce the burden on British taxpayers, as offenders from these countries previously remained in the UK long after completing their prison sentences. Around 5,200 foreign nationals have been deported since July 2024 — a 14 per cent rise over the previous year. Meanwhile, official data shows foreign offenders make up about 12 per cent of the UK's prison population, with annual prison costs averaging GBP 54,000 per inmate. (With PTI inputs)

UK Woman Accuses Tunisia Parasail Operator Of Groping, Sexual Assault
A British woman was allegedly sexually assaulted mid-air while parasailing during a vacation in Tunisia. Michelle Wilson, 52, said the incident occurred off the beach in Sousse when she was harnessed with a parasail operator. "I could feel the back of my bikini bottoms being pulled, and he was pulling the strap," Ms Wilson said, as per The New York Post. "He must have been tightening the harness to get me closer." According to Ms Wilson, she initially intended to parasail with a friend but was told by staff that windy conditions meant both women would have to go separately with an operator. Her friend completed the ride "with no problems." Ms Wilson described the operator as a young man in his twenties. She said, "His legs straddled around me, he had one hand up on the parachute, the other wasn't. Then I felt him touch my leg." She continued, "He was groping me and moving back and forth into me and talking to me in Arabic. I felt him pressing against me. I kept arching my back. I felt violated and dirty and was scared." On returning to the ground, Ms Wilson said she was visibly shaken and reported the incident to local police. "As women, you expect a bit of banter from men in these countries, but this wasn't banter, it was a sexual assault," she said. Ms Wilson travelled with her 17-year-old daughter, her friend, and her 16-year-old twin sons on a trip that cost around $8,000. She believes the operator involved has been arrested. British authorities and her insurance company are assisting with the case. The travel company EasyJet, with whom Ms Wilson booked her trip, is investigating the incident. Ms Wilson said the experience has ruined her vacation.
