Oasis take over UK charts as reunion tour hits Manchester
The band have placed three albums in the UK Top 5. Singles compilation Time Flies… 1994–2009 is No 1 for the first time since it was released in June 2010. Their second album, 1995's (What's the Story) Morning Glory? rises 12 places to No 2, and their 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe jumps 22 spots to No 4.
In the singles chart, Acquiesce – originally the B-side to their first No 1 single, 1995's Some Might Say, peaks at No 17 after making its stand-alone chart debut at No 40 last week.
Acquiesce is the second song performed in full on their current tour set list, after the instrumental introduction Fuckin' in the Bushes and Hello. With the lyrics 'Because we need one another / We believe in one another', it has been adopted by fans as an anthem of fraternal love between Liam and Noel Gallagher, despite Noel disagreeing with the interpretation.
The 1996 No 1 single Don't Look Back in Anger reaches No 18, though hasn't yet surpassed its most recent peak of No 9 last September, soon after the reunion was announced.
It also spent seven weeks in the chart in 2017 after being adopted as the unofficial anthem of Manchester in the wake of the terrorist attack on an Ariana Grande concert in the city that May. When Oasis perform the song on the current tour, the stage visuals feature yellow bumblebees in tribute to the city's worker bee symbol.
Live Forever, which also lingered on the chart in the wake of the reunion news, rises to No 19.
After two nights in Cardiff last weekend, Oasis are set to perform five nights at Heaton Park in Manchester from tonight (11 July). Temperatures are expected to reach 31C on night one, prompting organisers to share a weather warning for the first outdoor show of the tour. Rules on bringing bottles into the ground have been relaxed, with ticketholders now permitted to carry 500ml of water in a sealed bottle and up to 200ml of sun cream.
Oasis posted: 'Wear a (bucket) hat. Where possible stay in shade. Look after yourself and look after each other.'
Fans without tickets have been warned against attempting to get in for the sold-out shows after TikTok users claimed you could enter the park by swimming.
As in Cardiff last weekend, the city has been overrun by international visitors, with pubs, shops and even tattoo parlours reporting an uptick in business, while Liam Gallagher has voiced new announcements for the tram route that will take fans to the gig.
It is unlikely that fans will be disappointed: the first night of Cardiff earned unilateral five-star reviews in the British press. The Guardian's Alexis Petridis called it 'a triumph'.

'Earlier this year, I went public about my battle with Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome, where my face was partly paralysed,' he said in an Instagram story. 'As a result of this illness, I was not able to complete the North America leg of the Justice Tour. 'After resting and consulting with my doctors, family and team, I went to Europe in an effort to continue with the tour. I performed six live shows, but it took a real toll on me. 'This past weekend, I performed at Rock in Rio and I gave everything I have to the people in Brazil. After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realized I need to make my health the priority right now. 'So I'm going to take a break from touring for the time being. I'm going to be OK, but I need time to rest and get better (sic)." He thanked his fans for their support, saying: 'I've been so proud to bring this show and our message of Justice to the world. Thank you for your prayers and support throughout all of this! I love you all passionately!' However, the following year, Justin cancelled the tour altogether and assured fans they would all be receiving refunds for their tickets.

Girlguiding : What are the 72 new badges?
Girlguiding, the UK's largest youth organisation for girls, has launched 72 new badges in one of the biggest updates in its 115-year new badges have been designed for girls aged 4 to 18 across all sections of Girlguiding; Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers. This is only the second time in the organisation's history that the badge programme has been updated on such a large of the new badges on offer are earned through laughter, kindness, or even strong interests, where enthusiasm over things like Taylor Swift could see teenage Rangers receive a Fandom badge. They were developed after feedback from more than 20,000 girls and volunteers . More than 4,000 badge ideas were submitted, and 11,000 girls helped test the new activities that each badge involves. The badge activities were developed with Girlguiding's youth panel Amplify. Fatima, who is 18 and part of the group, says: "It's empowering to know our voices help shape what guiding looks like for the future."The aim of the new badges is to give members more choice and to reflect the things they said they wanted to learn. Amanda Azeez, Girlguiding Acting CEO said: "They've been designed by girls, for girls which is so important to make sure we are staying relevant to girls' wants and needs. My personal favourite is the Bee rescuer badge for Rainbows - I just love it!" How did Girlguiding begin? The Girl Guide Association was created in 1909 by a woman called Agnes Baden-Powell. Agnes played an incredibly important role in the Girl Guide movement. Her brother Robert had founded the Boy Scouts Association not long before, but many people didn't approve of girls taking part in outdoor activities, despite many wanting to take part. Agnes wanted to change that and her brother was in full support of her creating an organisation specifically for girls. Girl Guides were soon practising skills like cooking and first aid and there were lots of different badges they could earn. Many of these skills became very useful when the First World War began and saw lots of men and boys go off to fight. Famous Girl Guides include the late Queen Elizabeth, who became a Guide in 1937 at 11 when she was a princess. In 1994 The Girl Guide Association's name was updated to the Guide Association. It was updated again in 2002 and is known today as Girlguiding UK.

Girlguiding ‘hostess' badge gets gender-neutral makeover
Girlguiding has given its 'hostess' badge a gender-neutral makeover as part of a modernisation drive. The badge, first introduced in the 1960s, has been renamed the 'celebrations' badge to 'reflect the diversity of girls and modern life in the 21st Century'. It is one of 72 new badges that have been introduced by the group that runs the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers programmes. Other new badges recognise having a good night's sleep, laughter and dancing. The Hostess badge was originally awarded for playing 'hostess' by inviting a friend round and making them a cup of tea. These activities were later expanded in 2009 to include party planning, so that Brownie-level girls could learn event planning skills. The badge was scrapped in 2018 but has been brought back with a rebranded title because of popular demand. It will recognise youngsters who learn about and plan celebrations, bringing people together 'to make lots of happy memories'. The new badges were developed after a consultation which sought the views of more than 20,000 girls and volunteers. They cover a range of academic and environmental pursuits. Girlguiding said the laughter badge allowed Rainbows to 'discover loads of different ways to snort, giggle and roll about the floor, from silly actions, songs and games... then share the laughter with someone else'. The sleep badge allows children to prepare for 'a deep, relaxing slumber and discover the benefits of taking a snooze cruise'. The 'get grooving' dancing badge invites children to 'express yourself with movement, and even have a dance party!' Young girls taking part in Rainbows can be recognised for being a 'bee rescuer', while Brownies can be 'book reviewers'. New 'bookworm' and 'healthy sleep' badges Guide badges now include 'bookworm', 'historian', and recognise aspects of 'healthy sleep'. There are also 'clean planet' and 'biodiversity' badges. Rangers, the most senior, cannot be recognised for their 'nostalgia', with the guide to the new badge stating: 'Pop your rose-tinted glasses on... 'Discover what nostalgia means to you and other people... showcase your past and love for TV, film and even objects, and dive into the past and spread the joy.' Angellica Bell, the broadcaster and presenter, has joined as an ambassador to help launch the project. She said: 'Girlguiding offers a safe and welcoming space for all girls, and I am so impressed by the work they do to build girls' confidence and wellbeing, whilst tackling important issues impacting their lives such as online harm, sexism and misogyny. 'In a world where the voices of girls and young women are not always fairly heard, I am proud to stand alongside Girlguiding and will be using my voice to speak up for equality and to show that girls can do anything.' Amanda Azeez, Girlguiding's acting chief executive, said: 'The launch of these new badges is a huge moment for Girlguiding. 'They've been designed by girls, for girls, which is so important to make sure we are staying relevant to girls' wants and needs.' The badge activities were developed with Girlguiding's youth panel Amplify, which is made up of 30 girls aged 12 to 18, and seven partners, including The Royal Horticultural Society, the Children's Book Project, and Bletchley Park. It follows reports that Girlguiding would introduce an 'inclusive' new uniform following a row over trans children joining the organisation. A consultation has been launched to make uniforms across Girlguiding, Rainbows, Brownies and Rangers 'more coherent' with a 'look and feel that unifies all the sections across the organisation'. In 2023, the Girl Guides ditched the words 'mother' and 'father' for 'parents' and 'carers' as part of a new inclusive language guide. The guide set out to tell people 'how to be as inclusive as possible when communicating' and the organisation boasted that it was trans-inclusive. It said: 'We know the term 'girl' may not cover these young people – and language is of course always evolving. When we can, we adjust our language to be gender-neutral. This helps us include all young people who relate to experiences of girlhood and womanhood.' It prompted Sir John Hayes, the former security minister, to hit back at the guidance with the claim the organisation's former patron – 'our beloved late Queen' – would have been 'horrified' by it. Andrea Jenkyns, who is now the Reform UK mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, said at the time that the Guides had 'lost their way'.
