Rajbhar also accused the SP of fueling caste tensions, citing the Brahmin-Yadav conflict in Etawah and questioning Yadav's outreach to Brahmins in Azamgarh. 'Akhilesh talks about videos, but why did he organise religious rituals for Brahmins? His words and actions don't match,' he said, adding that the SP was lagging far behind in the 2027 political race. 'The Yogi government will return to power,' he asserted.
On the sensitive issue of panchayat poll reservations, Rajbhar said the existing policy must be implemented in full. 'Some villages saw changes due to election-related adjustments, but the issues will be corrected. Panchayat delimitation will be carried out afresh, and reservations will be enforced as per the established rules,' he said.
A day earlier, Rajbhar met chief minister Yogi Adityanath and renewed his long-standing demand for sub-categorisation within the OBC and Scheduled Caste reservation quotas ahead of the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections in the state.
Gram Chaupals soon
Earlier, Rajbhar chaired a departmental review meeting wherein he said Gram Chaupals would soon be held across villages to address local grievances on the spot. He stressed that sanitation workers would be mandatorily present in villages, and Aadhaar-based attendance would be enforced for both sanitation workers and panchayat assistants. 'Negligence will not be tolerated. Action will be taken against anyone found lax in their duties,' he said.
The minister directed officials to ensure gram panchayat buildings remain open and functional, promote cleanliness, maintain transparency, and enforce financial discipline.
He stressed uniform upkeep of panchayat premises, regular monitoring and payment for community toilet operations, timely digital financial reporting via the SPARSH portal, and stronger public engagement.
Emphasising environmental sustainability, he called for intensified plantation drives, awareness on plastic waste management, and promotion of Gobardhan and Kanha Gaushala schemes for biogas and compost production, with income transparently used for village development.

Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan on Friday signalled a truce with Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan ahead of Sree Narayana Guru's birth anniversary celebrations on September 18. Mr. Satheesan said he embraced the SNDP's decision to invite him to participate in the Chathayam Day celebrations by various taluk unions, including the one at the Guru's birthplace in Chempazhanthy. The SNDP Yogam would not have welcomed him without Mr. Natesan's whole-hearted consent, he added. Mr. Nateesan recently challenged Mr. Satheesan to declare that he would go into self-imposed political exile if the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) did not secure an emphatic victory with 100 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections. Mr. Natesan said he would reciprocate by quitting the post of SNDP general secretary if the UDF won. Mr. Satheesan picked up the gauntlet thrown down by Mr. Natesan. Nevertheless, he said he held the SNDP Yogam leader in esteem, given the latter's age and experience at the helm of the powerful Hindu social organisation. Mr. Satheesan requested Mr. Natesan to quit the top post if the UDF won in 2026. Mr. Satheesan said he politically differed with Mr. Natesan on certain aspects. For one, he had opposed the SNDP general secretary's purported criticism of the Indian Union Muslim League and confident Muslim social organisation leaders who he accused of using the political heft of the minority community to wrest educational institutions and other largesse from successive governments at the expense of majority community interests. Mr Satheesan cautioned that such statements would sow divisiveness in society. He said his dispute on some subjects with Mr. Natesan was principled and not personal.

On Independence Day, Opp gives call to ‘safeguard democracy' amid ‘vote theft' row
The opposition Congress and NCP (SP), in different programmes on Friday, gave a call to safeguard democracy amid allegations of 'vote theft' by the ruling coalition in the Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly polls. Meanwhile, the ruling NCP said the name of a voter can appear twice due to change of address for some reason, but it is important to ensure the voter in question does not vote twice. 'We participated in the protest in Delhi against the Election Commission of India because the issue was about safeguarding democracy. The elections will continue, but it is utmost important to safeguard democracy,' said NCP (SP) working president and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule after the flag-hoisting ceremony at the party headquarters. NCP (SP) state president Shashikant Shinde said it was time for all to ponder upon the fight of our freedom fighters. 'Looking at the ongoing onslaught on our democracy, one wonders whether we achieved Independence for this,' Shinde said, adding that it was time for all of us to stand together to protect democracy on this Independence Day. Maharashtra Congress chief Harshvardhan Sapkal, speaking after the flag hoisting at the Congress headquarters Tilak Bhavan, said, 'The powers in government today never participated in the freedom struggle. These people were with the British, they enjoyed pension from the British and never participated in the freedom struggle. The Congress was at the forefront of this struggle and it made huge sacrifices for our Independence.' He added that the 'indiscipline' and 'chaos' prevalent in the country today can be checked only by the Congress. Meanwhile, commenting on the voter revision exercise, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare said the process for revision of voters is continuous. 'There is a possibility that a voter might have his or her name registered twice as he / she changes address for some reason. But it is important to ensure the voter does not vote twice. To ensure that doesn't happen, the revision process takes place,' said Tatkare, when asked about the ongoing allegations of vote theft.

Fulfil freedom fighters' dreams, Minister urges people
Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy has appealed to people to strive towards fulfilling the dreams of the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India's independence. Addressing the gathering at the 79th Independence Day celebrations held at the police parade grounds here on Friday, the Minister, along with MLA Badeti Chanti, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Ganta Padma Sri, Eluru District Collector K. Vetri Selvi, Range IGP G.V.G. Ashok Kumar, Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore, and Joint Collector Dhatri Reddy, recalled the sacrifices of the nation's heroes and urged the youth to draw inspiration from them. Highlighting various welfare and development initiatives, Mr. Parthasarathy said the government was committed to empowering the poor, women, and students. 'It is our duty to develop the nation in all spheres, just as our freedom fighters envisioned,' he said. On the occasion, the Minister launched the 'Stree Shakti Scheme', enabling free bus travel for women in Eluru. Accompanied by the Collector and other officials, he travelled in a bus and interacted with women passengers to understand their experiences. IGP Ashok Kumar distributed sweets to staff and urged police personnel to work with dedication and ensure justice for the needy. The SP participated in Independence Day celebrations at Suresh Chandra Bahuguna English Medium School, motivating students to work hard to achieve their dreams. He also assured the development of school infrastructure, including the provision of computers for the laboratory. Cultural performances by students won the appreciation of the police officers present. Later, the Minister, Collector, IGP, and SP presented meritorious certificates to 54 personnel for their exemplary service.
