Maalik starrer Manushi Chillar emphasised the importance of working with directors who are unafraid to experiment with casting.
Manushi Chhillar, who recently starred in Rajkummar Rao's action thriller Maalik, opened up about one of the most common challenges actors face in the industry and that is being typecast. After making her debut with Samrat Prithviraj and continuing to land action-packed roles, the actress is now actively working to break free from the character mould and explore a broader range of roles.
In a recent interview with Zoom, the Bade Miyan Chote Miyan actress said that being typecast is a double-edged sword. She shared, 'Typecasting is a reality that every actor inevitably confronts at some stage, particularly following a breakout performance. I view it as both a form of praise and a hurdle; it signifies that you portrayed something so convincingly that audiences link you to it."
Manushi Chillar On Working With Visionary Filmmakers
She also emphasised the importance of working with directors who are unafraid to experiment with casting. According to her, such collaborations not only give actors the chance to break out of repetitive roles but also add fresh storytelling perspectives to cinema.
Manushi added, 'However, I also think that genuine artistry is rooted in adaptability. To prevent being confined, one must actively pursue roles that challenge them. The only way to break free from this cycle is to work with directors who possess a distinct vision and are willing to reimagine casting. After all, directors are the creative minds behind the films."
Manushi Chillar in Maalik
In Maalik, Manushi Chhillar brought a different version of herself to the screen. Directed by Pulkit, the film blends high-octane action with emotionally charged storytelling. In the film, Manushi played the role of Rajkumar Rao's character's wife.
Set in late 1980s Allahabad, Maalik follows Deepak (Rajkummar Rao), a farmer's son who turns into a feared gangster after avenging his father's assault. As he builds his criminal empire, his wife Shalini (Manushi Chhillar) stands as his moral compass, urging him to leave the violent world, especially after her pregnancy.
Manushi Chillar's Workslate
Manushi first made headlines after winning the Miss World title in 2017. She later made her Bollywood debut in Chandraprakash Dwivedi's Samrat Prithviraj, opposite Akshay Kumar. While the historical drama didn't perform well at the box office, it marked her formal entry into the industry.
She then appeared alongside Vicky Kaushal in the comedy-drama The Great Indian Family, followed by the action films Operation Valentine and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. With Maalik, released on July 11, 2025, Manushi continues to show her range and hunger for layered, meaningful roles.

Mobile Cricket Game: ICC To Secure Players Rights Through Member Boards

Last Updated: ICC had launched an Expression of Interest to identify partners to produce a mobile cricket game. The International Cricket Council (ICC) will reportedly approach its members board to secure the rights of players for its ambitious mobile cricket game without involving involve the World Cricketers Association (WCA). Last month, the ICC had announced it has started the process to find potential partners to produce a 'world class" mobile cricket game. As per a report in Cricbuzz, the member boards were informed of the development during the ICC Annual Conference held in Singapore recently. 'A clear direction from the April (ICC Board meeting in Harare) meeting was that all players' rights for this project would be secured through the members. The ICC was not to contract player rights through a third party such as the World Cricketers Association," the publication quoted a note that was circulated among the members during the conference as saying. Additionally, the ICC is also aiming to find a solution to obtain the rights of retired stars – who are not contracted to their national boards anymore – owing to their immense popularity including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni among others. 'The aim is to have a preferred partner identified for approval at the October board meetings. (The ICC) management will be in touch with members shortly to formalise the licence of rights required for the mobile game. These agreements will need to be completed by October," reads the note. The newly appointed ICC Chairman reportedly feels that the cricket mobile game 'will be bigger than the movies." ICC Chairman Jay Shah had said, 'Cricket has one of the most passionate and diverse fanbases in global sport. This project represents a unique opportunity and step forward to reimagine how cricket is experienced and celebrated in the digital world. By bringing together the ICC and its Full Members, we are laying the foundation for a cricket game that engages the modern audience and reflects the global scale of our game." view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. FWICE Demands Kartik Aaryan To ‘Immediately Withdraw' His Participation From Event By Pakistani Organiser

Last Updated: FWICE has urged Kartik Aaryan to withdraw from the Azadi Utsav event in Houston, USA, organized by a Pakistani-owned restaurant, citing concerns over his participation. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has written a letter to Kartik Aaryan after it was revealed that the actor will be attending an event in the USA organised by a Pakistani-owned restaurant. The event, titled Azadi Utsav – The Indian Independence Day, will take place in Houston, USA, on August 15, 2025, and is said to host Kartik as a guest. This didn't sit well with FWICE, which has now expressed concern over the actor's decision. The federation has also shared a poster of the event featuring Kartik as their guest. In the letter, FWICE wrote, 'It is with a sense of deep concern and responsibility that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) brings to your notice a matter involving your scheduled participation in an event titled Azadi Utsav – The Indian Independence Day to be held in Houston, USA, on 15th August 2025. As per the attached poster, you are being featured as the lead guest for this celebration. While such events are a source of pride and cultural expression for Indians abroad, we regret to inform you that this specific program is being organized by a Pakistani-owned restaurant, Aga's Restaurant and Catering, owned by Mr. Shaukat Maredia." In the letter, they have also mentioned that the same restaurant is organizing an event on August 14, 2025, to celebrate Pakistan's Independence Day. 'We believe you may not have been fully aware of the organizers' background or affiliations. If so, we strongly urge you to immediately withdraw your participation from this event. However, if you were aware, it becomes a matter of even greater concern — and we expect a clarification and immediate distancing from such associations," the letter continued. Meanwhile, FWICE has sent a letter to singer Javed Ali asking him to withdraw his name from an event happening on August 31, which features participation from Pakistani singers as well. 'We hope you will take this matter with the seriousness it demands and act in a manner befitting your responsibility as an Indian artist," a part of the letter reads. 120 Bahadur Teaser Launch Set For August 5; Farhan Akhtar To Bring Rezang La Battle To Life

Farhan Akhtar stars as Major Shaitan Singh in 120 Bahadur, a film based on the 1962 Battle of Rezang La. Directed by Razneesh Ghai, the teaser releases on August 5, 2025. Farhan Akhtar is all set to make a thunderous return to the big screen with 120 Bahadur, a film rooted in one of the most heroic and overlooked chapters of Indian military history — the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Indo-China War. The much-awaited teaser for the film will be unveiled on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, offering audiences a first glimpse into this untold saga of courage and sacrifice. Directed by Razneesh 'Razy" Ghai, 120 Bahadur casts Farhan Akhtar in the role of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, Param Vir Chakra awardee, who led a battalion of 120 soldiers in Ladakh against an overwhelming force of Chinese troops. Despite being vastly outnumbered, these bravehearts held their ground — a defiant stand so powerful that it reportedly led to a unilateral ceasefire by the Chinese. Shot across the harsh terrains of Ladakh, Rajasthan, and Mumbai, the film's production braved sub-zero temperatures at altitudes of 14,000 feet, recreating authentic high-altitude war zones. To ensure cinematic scale and realism, the team brought on board the Oscar-winning action crew from All Quiet on the Western Front and collaborated with Snow Business, the UK-based specialists behind some of the most iconic war sequences in film. Backed by Excel Entertainment (Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar) and Trigger Happy Studios (Amit Chandrra), 120 Bahadur promises to be a powerful blend of history, grit, and patriotic fervour. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on November 21, 2025. Meanwhile, sources close to the project confirmed to Hindustan Times that the actress came on board after impressing the filmmakers with her recent performances. 'Raashii has proved herself with The Sabarmati Report and Yodha, two completely different films and characters. The makers of 120 Bahadur felt that she would be able to hold her ground in a story which is so patriotic and hard-hitting, and bring added depth," said a source close to the production to the media house. While details about her character remain tightly guarded, her role is said to be crucial to the emotional arc of the narrative. With its stirring tale of indomitable courage and brotherhood, 120 Bahadur aims not just to entertain, but to etch the forgotten legacy of Rezang La into the collective memory of the nation.
