"Betrayal of Telangana's people cuts deep," says BRS Working President KT Rama Rao

India Gazette03-07-2025
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 4 (ANI): Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of ignoring Telangana's pressing concerns in Parliament.
Rama Rao said Gandhi had failed to raise key promises made during the 2014 bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, including national status for an irrigation project and the establishment of the Bayyaram steel plant.
He also accused Gandhi of remaining silent on the Banakacherla project in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, which he claimed could harm Telangana farmers by diverting their water rights from the Godavari river.
In a post on X, Rama Rao wrote, 'Rahul Gandhi's betrayal of Telangana's people cuts deep, as he completes one year as Leader of Opposition in Loksabha. Not once has he raised Telangana's burning issues in Parliament or the unfulfilled promises of the 2014 Bifurcation Act-- Be it National status to an irrigation project or the Bayyaram steel factory. His silence on Andhra Pradesh's Banakacherla project, which threatens to divert Telangana farmers' Godavari water rights, is complicity!'

He also criticised Gandhi for what he called 'hollow promises' during the Telangana Assembly elections and accused him of disappearing from the scene after the polls.
'After peddling hollow #420promises in Telangana's assembly polls, he faded like a shadow, leaving Congress to bask in power while Telangana's aspirations rot. Jai Telangana,' KTR said.
In a separate statement, the BRS leader also targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He demanded to know why the BJP-led Central government had not ordered a probe into corruption allegations against the Congress government in Telangana.
Referring to Shah's earlier speech in Nizamabad, in which he had described the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government as an 'ATM' for the party high command, Rama Rao questioned the lack of follow-up.
'Why hasn't the Union Home Minister acted upon it? What is stopping the Centre from initiating a probe through the CBI or ED?' he asked.
Accusing both national parties of collusion, he said, 'In Delhi, they stage a mock fight. In Telangana, they strike secret deals. Is BJP shielding Revanth Reddy because it cannot take on BRS alone?' (ANI)

Maharashtra to control funds on ‘innovative work' to prevent unnecessary expenditure

Mumbai: Maharashtra's finance minister Ajit Pawar has brought expenditures worth around ₹1,000 crore reserved for 'innovative work' schemes at the district level under the state government's direct control after being told that the funds were being used for unnecessary and unrelated expenditures over the last two financial years. Mumbai, Aug 01 (ANI): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar speaks to media, on Friday. (ANI Video Grab) (ANI Grab) At a time when the state's debt burden is set to soar to ₹9.32 lakh crore, partly due to populist welfare schemes such as the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, Pawar has directed the planning department to start reviewing its spending after noticing that funds were misused for 'purchase-oriented expenditures' that had nothing to do with innovative work, officials said. According to officials, Pawar reviewed the planning department's expenses over the last two financial years—2023-24 and 2024-25—in July. The department provides funds to the District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) in each district to undertake various development work. Of the total funds, 5% is reserved for 'innovative work - sustainable development and assessment-data entry'. For FY 2025-26, the total fund allocation for district planning and development is ₹20,168 crore. Therefore, the allocation for innovative work amounts to around ₹1,000 crore. Examples of innovative work schemes include self-employment for orphan children, infrastructure for competitive exam preparation, initiatives to save girl children, strengthening and renovating science laboratories in Zilla Parishad schools, or any new idea that will contribute to the development of the district. However, the review and assessment report of the planning department showed that in the name of innovative work, funds were used for purchasing goods and appliances like digital boards in schools, computers for labs, tables for Anganwadi, and fodder for cattle, among others, said an official from the planning department. 'In some districts, even 100% of the funds for innovative work were used for such unnecessary expenditure,' the official said. During the meeting in July, Pawar expressed his displeasure with the way funds were misused, officials said. The finance minister said that funds for innovative work should be used to create permanent assets for the government. He ordered the planning department to bring the expenditure on innovative work under control and issue state-level directives. Accordingly, the planning department has fixed a standard procedure for spending funds on innovative work, officials said. Henceforth, people at the district level cannot spend these funds according to their likes or personal interests. An order issued by the planning department states, 'The aim of expenditure on innovative work schemes is to increase the human development index and per capita income, and to achieve sustainable development. In every financial year, each district could implement only four to five schemes related to innovative work. If districts want to implement more such schemes, the approval of the state government will be necessary. Along with that, permission of the state government will be necessary to spend more than ₹3 crore on each work or scheme under the innovative work-scheme category. Purchase of goods and materials, which could be accommodated in the general scheme or expenditures, will not be allowed in this.'

‘Enemies' impeding Hyd's growth will get 'befitting lesson': CM

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has claimed that 'some political forces' have been impeding the growth of Hyderabad, which is being developed by the present government 'to compete with the world's top cities and not just Bengaluru and Chennai', and warned those 'enemies' that they would be dealt with swiftly and taught a 'befitting lesson'. Characterising them as 'anti-political forces', the Chief Minister said similar forces had created hurdles during the building of the HI-TEC City. "Those who are stalling the city's development, Musi river rejuvenation project, and Bharat Future City are our enemies', he underscored. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for an Integrated Sub Registrar and District Registrar Office complex coming up at Gachibowli on Wednesday. Amplifying his government's plans for Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy said that the state government is preparing plans for the comprehensive development of the state under 'TelanganaRising 2047' initiative, which focuses on transforming Hyderabad into 'the most sought-after city in the world'. 'One of the main objectives of the TelanganaRising 2047 is to position Hyderabad city to compete with Tokyo and New York." "Our goal is for Hyderabad to compete with the world's top cities, not just Bengaluru and Chennai", he emphasised. Revanth Reddy reiterated that the Musi riverfront would be developed by bringing Godavari river water to Musi and let it flow in the river for 365 days. The Chief Minister underlined that expansion and development of the city is the need of the hour to create more employment opportunities and livelihood options to the people. The Chief Minister, while referring to the Old City as 'the original city of Hyderabad', said that the Musi Rejuvenation Project will bring back the Old City's glory. Hyderabad City was recognized internationally and got big fame due to constant efforts made right from the time of the Quli Qutb Shahis to the present government. The Chief Minister recounted that former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was the brain behind the IT revolution in the country and that the erstwhile Congress government had laid the foundation for HI-TEC City in Hyderabad. Several global IT companies set up their firms in Hyderabad because of the foresight of the then chief ministers. CM Revanth Reddy said that the new registrar offices in Hyderabad will be built with advanced facilities providing 5 Star ambience. As many as 11 new registrar offices will be ready for operation by the Telangana Formation Day (June 2) next year. The integrated registrar offices, which generate huge revenues, will address all problems permanently. This state-of-the-art Integrated Sub Registrar and District Registrar Office at Gachibowli will house registration offices of Rangareddy, Gandipet, Serlingampalli and Rajendranagar. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy outlined the department's plans to develop integrated registration offices across the State in a phased manner. There are 39 sub registrar offices in the GHMC limits within the Outer Ring Road, which accounted for 63% of the revenue generated from registration. He said steps had been initiated to ensure that all these SROs in four districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy are shifted to 11 integrated registration offices.

Thackeray cousins' first political alliance comes a cropper

MUMBAI: Uddhav and Raj Thackeray received a jolt on Wednesday when their first alliance in a poll—the BEST employees' credit society election—came a cropper, not just causing the Shiv Sena (UBT) to lose power in the credit cooperative society but failing to win it even a single seat. The election to the 21 seats of the society was held on August 18. Members of BEST Workers Union celebrated with union leader Shashank Rao outside the counting centre at 4am on Wednesday. The panel floated by trade union leader Shashank Rao's BEST Workers Union won 14 seats, the BJP-sponsored Sahakar panel won six while the SC/ST Employees Union won one seat. Rao, who joined the BJP in 2024, gave the credit for his panel's victory to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Mumbai guardian minister Ashish Shelar. The Sena (UBT) and MNS had jointly fielded a panel as the BEST Kamgar Sena attempted to retain control of the society that it had won in the past two elections. Accusations of foul play flew thick and fast from the losing alliance regarding the BJP's use of money and political power. Just days before the election, the Mahayuti government's cooperation department and Economic Offences Wing (EOW) had served notices on office-bearers of the credit society over alleged irregularities. On the day of voting, a verbal war broke out between Sena (UBT) leader Suhas Samant, who was leading the panel, and BJP MLC Prasad Lad who fielded the BJP's Sahakar panel. Samant and MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande accused the BJP-led panel of distributing money to voters. Rao gave the credit for his panel's victory to Fadnavis and Shelar. 'Issues such as the payment of Covid allowance to BEST employees and the salary of contract employees had been hanging fire for long,' he said. 'When we reached out to Shelar and Fadnavis, they took a quick decision to help BEST employees. This society was under our union from 2006 to 2016 and now BEST employees have again shown faith in us.' The defeat came as an embarrassment for the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, as it was seen as the first test of the alliance between the Thackeray cousins. Mahayuti leaders took several digs at the Thackeray cousins. The BJP's Prasad Lad said that the BEST credit society elections had shown that the so-called Thackeray brand was nothing but a big zero. 'The sum total of two zeros is also zero,' taunted BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhye. Samant alleged that the Sena (UBT) lost the election due to the massive use of money power by a BJP-led panel and the misuse of political power by sending notices to the society from the cooperation department and EOW. 'Of the 15,000 voters, we have around 12,000 employees in our union,' he said. 'But the BJP-led panel used money power to lure them. We thought people would not vote for them despite the distribution of money, but money power turned more powerful and we lost. The notice by government agencies also created confusion in the minds of voters.' MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande said that the results ought not to be seen as a test for the BMC elections, as the two were different. 'I congratulate Shashank Rao and all the candidates who won,' he said. 'But no one should connect these results with the BMC elections, as the two elections have different scales and Marathi people will vote in different ways.' CM Devendra Fadnavis said that the BJP had not politicised the election as it was just an employees' cooperative society poll. 'Both Shashank Rao and Prasad Lad are from our party, but we kept politics away from these elections,' he said. 'However, the Sena (UBT) and MNS didn't, publicising them as the elections of Brand Thackeray and the reunion of the Thackeray cousins. The results show that people did not like it, and they were thus rejected.'
