Uttar Pradesh government adopts mission for abolishing child labour from state by 2027
Unprecedented coordination has been established between the departments of Education, Women and Child Development, Panchayati Raj, Home, Health, Social Welfare, Rural Development, Urban Development, and Vocational Education under the leadership of the Labour Department to achieve the goal.
To deal with challenges like a lack of data and retention of children in schools in the path of eliminating child labour, the government has taken concrete and innovative steps, which are taking Uttar Pradesh towards an empowered and prosperous society.
The biggest challenge of eliminating child labour has been the unavailability of reliable data, as no comprehensive data is available in this regard since the 2011 census. To deal with this problem, the Panchayati Raj Department has been entrusted with the responsibility of collecting data on working children and child labourers at the village level.
This data will be shared with the Labour and Education Department, so that child labour elimination programmes can be implemented effectively. District task forces will soon be formed in all districts, which will speed up data collection in collaboration with panchayats.
In addition, in collaboration with UNICEF, schemes of various departments will be compiled in a booklet, which will contain information about schemes benefiting child labourers and their families. This initiative will ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach every needy child and their family.
Another major challenge is the retention of those children in schools who do not come to school regularly despite enrollment and fall into the category of potential child labour. To deal with this problem, the Women Welfare Department's Bal Seva Yojana, Sponsorship Scheme, and Child Helpline are being actively implemented. Through these schemes, children are being provided opportunities for education and rehabilitation.
The government's 'Naya Savera' scheme is being qualitatively evaluated, and its re-implementation is being considered so that child labourers can get better opportunities. For public awareness, a grand program will be organised in Lucknow on June 12 on International Child Labour Prohibition Day, in which the cooperation of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), employers and labour organisations will be taken.
This resolution of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is building a new Uttar Pradesh with the coordination and collective efforts of various departments. Through data compilation, awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation schemes, the government is not only moving rapidly towards eliminating child labour but is also playing a leading role in providing education and a secure future to children. This campaign will prove to be a milestone in the direction of making Uttar Pradesh child labour-free by 2027.
The Yogi government is running the Atal Residential School for the children of workers in all the divisions. Apart from this, the Chief Minister is trying to connect the children of rural areas and child labour with quality education through the Composite School. (ANI)

A scuffle broke out between Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor and Bihar Police on Wednesday as he attempted to march towards the Assembly, after which he threatened to surround Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in his home along with his supporters. He said that he wants to give a memorandum to Nitish, reminding him of his promise to the people of the state, and alleged that the government was refusing to hold a meeting with his party officials. Later, he informed that the chief secretary was talking with five senior leaders of his party. 'We want to peacefully give this memorandum of the people to the Chief Minister that in the last 2 years, he had promised to give Rs 2 lakh to 94 lakh families, but to date not a single family has received a single rupee," Kishor told news agency ANI. 'The fight has just begun. Three months are still left… People of Bihar want change and want to remove the corrupt. They cannot hide in the assembly and behind the police. We will give them a reply that the whole of Bihar will see. We will surround Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in his home, and the police can't do anything," the Jan Suraaj founder threatened. 'If you have hit an unarmed man of Suraaj with a stick, I'm sitting right here. This is a restricted area, try to hit me. We will make it difficult for the government to function in the whole of Bihar… You have hit a boy who got injury in his head… Either the chief secretary gives us in writing when they will give us the answers, or we won't move from here," he said. He stressed that the government has to 'bow down" in front of the public. 'We are waiting to see the outcome of the meeting. Police can't do anything; they have hit one boy. They are saying that this is a restricted area. We are sitting here and telling them to try to hit us," he said. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 15:52 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Bihar voter roll revision was ‘imposed on us', says JD(U) MP
The Election Commission has 'no practical knowledge' of the history of Bihar and has ' forcefully imposed ' the revision of electoral rolls on the state's residents, Janata Dal (United) MP Giridhari Yadav was quoted as saying by ANI on Wednesday. The Janata Dal (United) is a key ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party at the national level. Yadav clarified that the statement was his opinion. 'It took 10 days for me to collect all of my documents,' the MP told ANI. 'My son stays in America. How will he do the signatures in just a month?' He said that at least six months should have been given for the electoral roll revision. 'This is the truth,' he said. 'If I cannot say the truth, why have I become an MP?' #WATCH | Monsoon Session of Parliament |On SIR (Special Intensive Revision), JDU MP Giridhari Yadav, says "...Election Commission has no practical knowledge. It neither knows the history nor the geography of Bihar. It took 10 days for me to collect all the documents. My son… — ANI (@ANI) July 23, 2025 The revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar was announced by the Election Commission on June 24. As part of the exercise, persons whose names were not on the 2003 voter list will need to submit proof of eligibility to vote. This means that 2.9 crore out of the state's 7.8 crore voters – or about 37% of the electors – will have to submit documentary evidence. Voters born before July 1, 1987, must show proof of their date and place of birth, while those born between July 1, 1987, and December 2, 2004, must also submit documents establishing the date and place of birth of one of their parents. Those born after December 2, 2004, will need proof of date of birth for themselves and both parents. If the officers are satisfied with the details provided, the voters will be re-enrolled to a new voter list by electoral registration officers. If not, they will be removed from the voter lists. A draft roll will be published on August 1 and the final roll will be out on September 30. On July 2, eleven INDIA bloc parties told the Election Commission that the special intensive revision of Bihar's electoral rolls risked disenfranchising more than 2.5 crore voters, as they may not be able to produce the necessary documents. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on July 6 defended the exercise, claiming that the exercise had to be carried out as no one was satisfied with the current voter rolls. Yadav's statement came days after the Telugu Desam Party, another key ally of the BJP, had asked the Election Commission to ' clearly state ' that the special intensive revision of voter rolls is not linked to citizenship verification. In a letter to the poll panel on July 15, the party also said that such exercises should be conducted with sufficient preparation time and 'ideally not within six months of any major election'. The Opposition leaders in the Bihar Assembly have been protesting against the ongoing exercise and demanding a discussion on it. On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha also witnessed a ruckus over the exercise, with Opposition MPs shouting slogans in both Houses and demanding a rollback of the decision to review electoral rolls, reported The Indian Express. 'We are continuously demanding a discussion on this in Parliament, but that demand is not being accepted,' Congress leader Pawan Khera was quoted as saying by ANI. 'We ask questions to the Election Commission, but the BJP answers. This is a unique tradition that has started now.'

'Threatened with impeachment': TMC says Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned under NDA government pressure; claims Rajnath Singh to be next VP
TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee (Image credits: PTI) NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee on Wednesday claimed that former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was forced to resign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior cabinet ministers. He further alleged that Dhankhar was 'threatened' with an impeachment motion if he did not step down. The TMC leader also said that Union defence minister Rajnath Singh "would be made" the next Vice President of India. "Jagdeep Dhankhar was forced to resign by the Prime Minister and other Cabinet ministers. He was threatened that if he didn't resign before 9 pm on that day, an impeachment motion would be brought against him. This is a pressure tactic by the PM and other Cabinet ministers,' he said as quoted by ANI. 'Earlier, one Election Commissioner resigned just before the elections... It is being heard that now Rajnath Singh will be made vice president," Banerjee added. Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation was announced on Monday evening, coinciding with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament . Dhankhar, in his official resignation letter, cited health concerns as the reason for stepping down. "To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution," he wrote. Following the resignation, several political leaders questioned its timing and the official explanation, calling the move suspicious. The Congress described the abrupt exit as a 'forced resignation.' Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, as reported by ANI, "The government should answer why he resigned. I can see 'dal mein kuch kaala hai.' His health is fine. He used to defend RSS and BJP always. Who and what is behind his resignation should be known to the country." Deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, also commented on the issue, alleging that PM Modi's remark on Dhankar's exit indicated the decision was political in nature.
