Nude photos to loan shark cost woman dearly
KUALA LUMPUR: A 27-year-old woman regrets sending nude photographs of herself to a loan shark.
The victim, who wanted to be known as 'K', said she was desperate for RM3,000 to settle her car loan, so she turned to a moneylender on social media.
She said initially, she was told to pay fees amounting to around RM1,000 to secure the loan.
However, she was still denied the money and was instructed to send nude photos to receive the sum.
K said that even though she sent the photos, she still did not receive the money.
'Now they are asking for more money, or else they will send the photos to my family,' K said at a press conference at Wisma MCA here yesterday.
It was organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong.
Another victim, Chan, said that he borrowed money from 14 loan sharks to fund an online business.
'I had already paid 12 loan sharks with the help of family members. But the remaining two are demanding more than what was borrowed,' the 23-year-old said.
Despite borrowing about RM20,000 in total from loan sharks, Chan stated he had already repaid around RM49,000.
A third victim, 35-year-old Tan, said that she has been compelled to disown her brother due to his continual borrowing of money to cover his debts.
She said that her brother had used the family's home as his primary address when dealing with the loan sharks, despite having moved out several years ago.
'My family cannot afford to pay any more. I want to disown him publicly,' she added.
Chong said the victim's brother had also met with him recently.
'He came to meet me to help urge his family to settle his debts. I told him to leave my office,' Chong said.
According to Chong, he will be monitoring all cases, and legal aid will be given if needed.

Four-year-old boy falls to death from 8th-storey window in Klang
KLANG: A four-year-old boy died after he fell out of an eight-floor flat unit on Friday (Aug 1) morning. According to South Klang deputy OCPD Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the incident occurred at the Port Klang Perantau Flats' Block J. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at his workplace, and the mother was out of the house sending her second child to the babysitters. "The victim is believed to have fallen out of a window of his home on the eighth floor," said Supt Kamalariffin. He also added that police opened an investigation under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which comes with a jail term of not more than 20 years and a fine not exceeding RM50,000. "The police are urging members of the public, with other information pertaining to this incident, to go to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang police at 03-33762222 to help with the investigations," he said.

Boy, 4, dies after fall from 8th floor flat
KUALA LUMPUR: A 4-year-old boy who fell from the 8th floor of the Sri Perantau Flats in Port Klang this morning has died from injuries sustained in the fall. South Klang deputy police chief Superintendent Kamal Ariffin Aman Shah, who confirmed the death, said police received a call around 8am from a member of the public reporting that a child had fallen from a building in the area. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at work, while the mother had stepped out to send their second child to the babysitter. "It is believed the victim fell from the window of their 8th floor flat," he said in a statement today. Kamal Ariffin added that the victim was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead during treatment at 9am. "A post-mortem revealed that the child sustained head injuries consistent with a fall from height. "The South Klang police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department has opened an investigation paper under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000. "We ask anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang Police Headquarters at 03-33762222 to assist in the investigation," the statement read. Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing chaos at the scene as residents gathered around the area. In the footage, a man can be heard sharing brief details about what had happened.

Former director, company fined RM15,000 for unpaid service tax in Melaka
MELAKA: A former director and his company were fined RM15,000 by the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court for failing to pay service tax and penalties amounting to RM139,755.25 between 2021 and 2023. Judge Haderiah Siri imposed the sentence after Ng Wen Hua, 31, and Go Lounge Sdn Bhd pleaded guilty to five charges. She also ordered a one-month jail term in default for each charge if they fail to settle the fine. According to the charges, Ng and the company failed to pay service tax within the stipulated period under Section 26(4) of the Service Tax Act 2018. The unpaid taxes ranged from RM19,000 to RM30,000, with penalties between RM3,000 and RM12,000. The offences occurred at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Wisma Kastam Negeri, Ayer Keroh, on multiple dates in 2022 and 2023. The charges were brought under Section 26(8) of the Service Tax Act 2018, read with Section 78(1)(a), which carries a maximum penalty of RM50,000, three years' imprisonment, or both. Prosecuting officer Mohammad Azhar Habib urged the court to impose a RM5,000 fine per charge, citing non-compliance and loss of government revenue.
