CBSE carries out surprise inspections in 15 schools across seven regions to check dummy student enrolments
NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted surprise inspections in 15 schools spread across five states and two Union Territories to verify compliance with its regulations and to investigate the issue of dummy student enrolments.
The inspections were carried out simultaneously on July 31, 2025, as part of the Board's efforts to ensure schools adhere to its Bye-Laws and maintain required academic and physical infrastructure standards.
The exercise involved 15 teams, each comprising an officer from the Board and a principal of a CBSE-affiliated school. These teams were deployed to various locations in Delhi, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
The synchronised inspections aimed to maintain the element of surprise and obtain accurate information about the functioning of the institutions.
Surprise inspections across multiple regions
The inspections covered 15 schools in total, located in seven different regions. The schools included a mix of public and private institutions affiliated with the CBSE. In Delhi alone, nine schools were inspected, including Apex Public School in Sant Nagar, CIAT Convent School in Kanjhawala, and Rajindra Public School in Nangloi.

Chandigarh saw the inspection of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School in Sector 40-C.
The states of Maharashtra and Jharkhand witnessed checks in The Jain International School in Nagpur, Rahul International School in Mira Road, and Central Academy in Ranchi respectively.
Other schools inspected were J S Memorial Public School in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh; Aaloke Bharti Model School in Kolkata, West Bengal; and Lakshya School in Samalkota Mandal, Andhra Pradesh.
The widespread inspections reflected the Board's commitment to enforcing uniform standards across its affiliated schools.
Focus on dummy student enrolments and compliance
The primary objective of these surprise inspections was to ascertain whether schools were enrolling dummy students—those who are enrolled but do not attend classes—as well as to verify the maintenance of academic standards and infrastructure.
The CBSE emphasised that such practices undermine the integrity of the education system and contravene Board regulations.
Each team conducted thorough evaluations of school operations within a limited time frame, ensuring that no prior information could influence the inspection process. The inspections reviewed various aspects including student attendance records, infrastructure facilities, and adherence to prescribed academic norms.
Next steps following inspection reports
Following the inspections, the CBSE will review the reports submitted by the inspection committees. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings, which may include penalties or other corrective measures against schools found violating the Board's regulations.
The CBSE reaffirmed its commitment to upholding educational standards and ensuring that affiliated schools operate transparently and within the rules set by the Board. The surprise inspections are part of ongoing efforts to monitor and regulate school functioning effectively.

CSP operator shot at in Samastipur, over Rs 1 lakh looted
Patna: Armed miscreants shot at an SBI customer service point (CSP) operator and looted Rs 1.25 lakh from an SBI customer service point (CSP) at Malinagar village under Chakmahesi police station area in Samastipur district on Monday. The CSP operator, Manish Kumar, was shot in the right thigh while he was attempting to catch hold of the fleeing robbers, police said. Chakmahesi SHO, Santosh Kumar Yadav, said: "The robbers fired shots while fleeing, injuring the CSP operator. The stolen amount is approximately Rs 1.25 lakh," he said. Yadav said the initial inquiry from the victim revealed that the incident occurred around 1pm when two masked men, posing as customers, entered the CSP on two separate motorcycles. As they approached the counter, they brandished pistols and demanded money. "After seizing the cash from the counter, the robbers attempted to escape. In a bid to stop them, Manish hurled a hammer at the robbers, but it missed the target. In retaliation, the robbers opened fire, hitting Kumar in the thigh," he said. One of the robbers' motorcycles could not start so they escaped on a bike. Mumbai court grants bail to high-end furniture businessman in Rs 30 crore customs duty evasion case
Mumbai: The Mumbai metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday granted bail to Falgun Shroff, a key accused in the Rs 30 crore customs duty evasion racket unearthed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Shroff, the owner of Di Lusso Furniture LLP, was arrested on July 20 for allegedly importing high-end Italian luxury furniture by grossly undervaluing goods and evading customs duties. While granting bail, the court observed that Shroff had no prior criminal antecedents and cooperated with the investigation. The court noted that the DRI had already seized all documentary and electronic evidence, including emails, account books, and devices, during searches at Shroff's office and residence. The accused also deposited Rs 5 crore towards duty payment and expressed willingness to pay more, without admitting any liability, although his bank accounts are currently frozen, argued his advocate Sujay Kantawala. The court directed Shroff to be released on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with sureties and imposed strict conditions prohibiting him from tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. Woman kills cop husband, hangs herself in Ahmedabad
