Johor cops bust drug ring using WeChat to cut deals, seize RM2.95m in narcotics
Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said a special operation was carried out across three separate locations in the city on June 19, between 12pm and 9pm, resulting in the arrest of three local men and two Vietnamese women.
He said more than RM2.95 million worth of illicit drugs were seized during the operation.
'During the raids, police seized 16.86 kilogrammes of ecstasy powder, 104 grammes of ketamine, 1,950 Erimin 5 psychotropic pills, 1,250 grammes of ecstasy pills, and 35 yaba pills.
'All the seized drugs, if released into the open market, could be used by 59,971 addicts,' he said during a press conference at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today.
Kumar said the Johor Baru-based syndicate is believed to have been active since January. They operated from two gated residential apartment units and a rented room in a terrace house, where they processed the drugs before packing them for distribution.
'The suspects used the WeChat mobile messaging application to communicate with customers without physically meeting, as part of their modus operandi.
'Upon receiving orders, upfront payments would be made online. A syndicate member would then leave the drugs at locations agreed upon by both parties, such as roadsides, drains, or even garbage bins,' he said.
During the raids, police also seized drug processing and repackaging equipment, along with five vehicles, RM9,100 in cash, and jewellery.
Kumar said the total value of the seized drugs and confiscated items amounted to about RM3.21 million.
He said urine tests showed all five suspects tested positive for methamphetamine use.
'Checks revealed that the three male suspects had prior criminal records related to drugs and other offences.
'The trio also had outstanding warrants linked to ongoing cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,' he added.
The suspects are currently remanded until tomorrow to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The two women are also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents.

At a press conference, Shazeli said investigations would be held regardless, but a formal report would help if further action is needed. 'Investigations into that aspect are being conducted. However, we ask for a police report to be made so that it becomes an official report. This will help us if further action needs to be taken. 'We will carry out investigations based on whatever information we receive,' he said. The threats came a day after Rafizi's 12-year-old son was stabbed with a syringe at a shopping mall in Putrajaya yesterday afternoon. CCTV footage showed two assailants, dressed in black with helmets covering their faces, following Rafizi's wife's car on a motorcycle before the incident. Shazeli said six witnesses had given their statements over the attack so far, including the Pandan MP and his wife. Earlier today, Rafizi revealed that his wife had received two threatening text messages from an unknown number, at 1.12am and another at 11.02am, both reading: 'Be quiet. If you continue, AIDS,' with the second message followed by three syringe emojis. Rafizi said he suspected that the attack was linked to a case he was looking into, saying he had met with a group of whistleblowers just last week. When asked whether police have determined the substance in the syringe, Shazeli said: 'We don't know yet. The hospital has taken samples and is arranging for them to be analysed.' On whether the motive was political or personal, he said it had not been determined. 'The investigation is still at an early stage, so give us the space and a chance to carry out a more detailed probe. We do not want to jump to conclusions too soon.'

Probe into Klang student's death ongoing, say cops

PUTRAJAYA : Police have denied that the investigation into the death of a 17-year-old student in Klang was classified as no further action (NFA) and only recently reopened. Klang Utara police chief S Vijaya Rao said the case has been under investigation as a sudden death since May 27, which was when the girl was pronounced dead at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital. 'We didn't 'reopen' investigations. We started our investigations from the day we received the report (and it is still being conducted),' he said, adding that the victim's cause of death was still pending laboratory results. Vijaya said the statements of 25 people had been taken, including from teachers and students at the victim's school. He said the investigation paper would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office after the statements of several more people had been recorded. The student died on May 27 after allegedly ingesting poison while in a classroom with three other students during recess. One of them later told teachers the student had collapsed and was foaming at the mouth. The parents accused the school of failing to provide immediate medical attention, claiming staff waited nearly two hours for an ambulance instead of sending her to a nearby clinic, which was only two minutes away. The victim's father, M Gopalan, 47, also claimed that the school did not administer first aid while waiting for the ambulance. He had lodged two police reports – one against six school staff members for alleged gross negligence and evidence tampering, and another against three students for allegedly pressuring his daughter to consume the poison. Earlier today, activist Arun Dorasamy claimed the case was initially classified as NFA before being reopened, with the cops taking the statements of the victim's parents, Gopalan and P Magaswari, 45, yesterday. 'We are thankful the police are now conducting a more detailed and serious investigation,' Arun said at a press conference outside the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) headquarters here. Arun was with the girl's mother, Magaswari, and the family's lawyer, S Vikram, to lodge a report with MACC, alleging abuse of power by an education ministry officer involved in the case.

Teacher who molested boy in library ordered to enter defence

(File pic) PETALING JAYA : The Muar sessions court has ordered a teacher to enter his defence on charges of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy in a Tangkak school library six years ago. Judge Sayani Nor found that the prosecution had succeeded in proving a prima facie case in the two charges against the accused, Fauzi Musa, 37, Harian Metro reported. The judge said he came to this decision after examining the evidence from the prosecution witnesses and case exhibits presented in court. On both counts, Fauzi is accused of molesting the victim in the library in November 2019 and January 2020. The charges were framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which is punishable by up to 20 years in jail and whipping, if convicted. This section involves acts of physical sexual assault committed against a child regardless of the child's consent or gender. The charges were also read with Section 16(1) of the same Act which involves those in a relationship of trust. This provides for a maximum additional jail sentence of five years and two strokes of the rotan, upon conviction. The incident came to light after the child's friend told the victim's mother, who then filed a police report. Deputy public prosecutor Othman Affan Ismail prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Hanif Hassan. The court then set Nov 10 and Nov 11 for the accused to present his defence.
