Almond Vosotros out to repay 'second chance' at TNT
Almond Vosotros is not taking any opportunity for granted and sees every minute on the floor with TNT as a chance to prove he still belongs on the big league.
The 35-year-old guard parted ways with the Tropang 5G in April, but was brought back in late May to reinforce a depleted TNT backcourt reeling from injuries to key playmakers Jayson Castro, Rey Nambatac, and Jielo Razon.
Recently, another veteran court general Simon Enciso went down with an eye injury and had already missed a couple of games in their ongoing PBA Philippine Cup finals duel against San Miguel.
And when Vosotros got the green light, and he delivered.
With San Miguel looking to slam the door on TNT's Grand Slam dreams in Game 5, Vosotros, a former 3x3 specialist, answered the call and provided the spark.
He fired a triple and then completed a layup to cap off a 13-2 TNT run to open the fourth, foiling a comeback attempt from the Beermen.
He then dished out an assist that led to a Jordan Heading three-pointer as TNT established a 77-59 cushion halfway through the frame. He finished with 11 points to go with one rebound, two assists, and a steal to help TNT revive its flickering grand slam hopes alive.
"Unang-una ayokong masayang 'yung opportunity na binibigay sa akin ni Coach Chot [Reyes] at ng TNT. As in, bibihira 'yung mabigyan ng second chance so hangga't may opportunity na makakatulong ako sa team, gagawin ko," Vosotros said.
"Lagi naman kaming sinasabihan ni Coach Chot na hangga't may pag-asa talagang lalaban lang kami palagi. Kung may opportunity na makabalik kami ngayong series, 'yun lang 'yung focus namin."
Vosotros shared he signed only a two-month contract with TNT, or only until the end of this month, that's why the former 13th overall pick is making the most of his time with TNT.
"Sa totoo lang, sa lahat ng experience ko sa 5-on-5 ngayon lang ako nabigyan ng opportunity, ngayon lang ako nabigyan ng minutes since nagpa-draft ako," he added.
"So sobrang thankful ako kay Coach Chot na ayun nga, binigyan ako ng second chance tapos ngayon I'm playing in the finals. Ayoko lang masayang 'yung opportunity."

PBA: Chot Reyes says TNT has nothing to be ashamed of even as Grand Slam quest falls short
The TNT Tropang 5G's Grand Slam hopes may have slipped away, but for head coach Chot Reyes, the journey was nothing short of commendable. The multi-titled tactician praised his players for enduring a grueling PBA season, one that saw them capture the Governors' Cup and Commissioner's Cup before falling short in the season-ending Philippine Cup against San Miguel. "So, so proud of this team. I think our chairman MVP put it best, he said, 'Our heads bowed in sorrow but not in shame,'' Reyes said following their 107-96 loss in Game 6 on Friday. Still, they kept up with the Beermen, drawing first blood with a slim 99-96 win in Game 1. They, however, lost the next three games before mounting a huge fight in Game 5 to extend their life and drag San Miguel to a Game 6. But San Miguel proved too much for the undermanned Tropang 5G, as the Beermen made sure to close out the series and deny TNT any chance at a comeback. Reyes, though, stressed there were no regrets despite missing out on the historic Grand Slam. "I have absolutely no regrets. Like I said, when we started the series, I never coached for the Grand Slam. I'd rather almost have it than not get there. From college teammates to foes in the pros, Jeron Teng and Almond Vosotros are both just proud of each other
From shared beginnings at De La Salle University, Jeron Teng and Almond Vosotros have carved their own respective paths as professionals in the sport of basketball. Both part of the 2013 championship team of the green-and-white squad in the UAAP, it was Vosotros who first turned pro in 2015 while Teng followed suit two years after. But while Teng has had a relatively stable career, playing for Alaska and Converge before eventually landing in San Miguel in 2023, Vosotoros brought his talents to different clubs and different leagues before he found his nice in the 3x3 competitions, particularly with TNT. And when TNT needed some backcourt help for its PBA squad, they turned to the 3x3 specialist Vosotros and he's made the most of the opportunity. Despite their different journeys, the two former teammates found themselves sharing the court once again in the PBA Philippine Cup finals of the league's 48th season, this time as opponents vying for the championship. In the end, it was Teng who emerged victorious for the second title of his career. "I'm super happy because this time it's the All-Filipino. Last time, my first championship was with an import so it's more meaningful na All-Filipino," Teng told GMA News Online. During the finals, he had his moments in helping San Miguel get past TNT and even scored 10 points in Game 2 of the series. "My goal is [that] each conference, I try to improve and I try to help the team more and more so I'm staying patient and at the same time I'm also learning and improving," he added. Vosotros, meanwhile, has been a valuable spark off the bench for TNT. He had actually parted ways with the squad back in April but the Tropang 5G called him up for another tour of duty. And he just proved they made the right decision. In the finals, Vosotros had averages of 10.25 points per game. "Sobrang thankful ako kay Coach Chot [Reyes] kasi honestly since na-draft ako ng 2015, ngayon lang ako nabigyan ng consistent minutes, tapos sa finals pa," Vosotros told reporters. [I'm so thankful to Coach Chot because honestly since I was drafted in 2015, this was the first time I received consistent minute, and it's in the finals no less.] His old teammate had nothing but good words for Vosotros. "I'm just so proud of Almond, he played well the whole series," Teng said. "He was my teammate in college and 'di ako nagugulat sa anong kaya niya dahil he has shown that to me since we were in college. He's a hooper."
