Panaji: Chief minister
Pramod Sawant
Monday strongly came down on his cabinet colleague and art and culture minister Govind Gaude for raising serious charges against him and said, 'action will be taken against Gaude'.
Sawant's statement comes a day after Gaude alleged that there was rampant corruption in the tribal welfare department under the CM.
'A responsible minister should make a responsible statement. I took cognisance of it. He should not make irresponsible statements. Necessary action will be taken as soon as possible,' Sawant said.
Without spelling out what action he intends to take or whether he intends to drop Gaude from his cabinet, the chief minister only said: 'Wait till I take action.'
BJP state president Damodar 'Damu' Naik also joined Sawant in castigating Gaude for his comments.
'BJP is a disciplined party. We have a proper forum to express ourselves. It is not acceptable to raise issues anywhere. We will not tolerate such things in the party. It is not just a warning. Action will be taken at the right time,' Naik said.
Gaude on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the tribal welfare department during a Prerna Din function and raised questions about the department's administrative efficiency and transparency.

'A huge amount of taxpayers' money is allotted to the tribal welfare department. If it is unable to organise this programme efficiently, then it only shows a lack of control over the administration,' Gaude said at the event organised by the tribal welfare department in association with the United Tribal Associations Alliance (UTAA) at Ponda. The minister was seemingly piqued over the poor turnout at the event.
His comments are being viewed as politically significant given that Sawant also holds the tribal welfare portfolio. Gaude also made allegations about some behind-the-scenes operations. 'The files of the contractors are handled under the Shram Shakti Bhavan building on the sly. And they think we don't know of such things,' he said.

A phone shows the an app store page for the application Reversed Front Bonfire (AI) In a latest attempt to tighten its grip over Hong Kong, China has declared possession of a game about defeating communist regime called 'Reversed Front: Bonfire' as seditious under the national security laws. Police in a statement warned, those who download or share the mobile game app 'may be regarded as in possession of a publication that has a seditious intention" As described in the games website, players can 'pledge allegiance' to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Tibet or Uyghurs, among other options, to 'overthrow the communist regime'. "Those who have downloaded the application should uninstall it immediately and must not attempt to defy the law." However, the warning may have unintentionally boosted the game's visibility, as it became the top Google search term among Hong Kong users on Wednesday. The developers seemed to welcome the publicity around the ban, posting that the game had effectively been "introduced to the entire Hong Kong" because of the controversy. Hong Kong, the city state though it is autonomous, is currently governed under one China principle.

Centre attempting to ‘suppress' glory of ancient Tamil civilisation unearthed at Keeladi: Vaiko

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) alleged that the Union government appears to be attempting to 'suppress' the ancient Tamil civilisation unearthed at Keeladi, while actively searching for a 'non-existent Sanskrit civilisation.' Mr. Vaiko's remarks came against the backdrop of Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat's recent observation that the reports submitted to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna, who headed the first two phases of excavations at Keeladi in Sivaganga district, are not technically well-supported and that further scientific studies are required to validate the findings. In a statement, Mr. Vaiko said the BJP government at the Centre is making every effort to 'suppress' the glory of Keeladi. 'The BJP and RSS that seek to impose the dominance of Hindi and Sanskrit culture under the guise of 'one language, one culture,' are opposed to the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of India… It is the duty of the Tamil people to resist these fascist forces that attempt to suppress the Tamil language and the ancient history of the Tamil people through various conspiracies,' the MDMK leader said.
