Wednesday's Creator Got Real About Jenna Ortega's Comments Regarding Having To Put Her Foot Down During Season 1

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Wednesday Season 2 will finally be premiering soon on the 2025 TV schedule, and the wait has been excruciating. It seems like forever since the series premiered on Netflix in 2022, but the second season will be here in a matter of days. Between seeing what Jenna Ortega's titular Addams Family character will be getting up to and the insane guest stars, there will be a lot to look forward to. A lot has also changed, not only in the show but behind the scenes, and Wednesday's creator is getting real about the star of the show putting her foot down in Season 1. Ortega has been open about how hard filming Wednesday's inaugural season was and revealed she had to put her foot down when it came to certain aspects. She worked long and hard hours on the show and even almost passed out while filming Season 1. While she received backlash after saying aspects of the show 'made no sense' and she was changing lines on set, she didn't let up. And it turned out to be a good thing, and creator Alfred Gough praised her for what she did and what it turned into while talking to The Hollywood Reporter: Jenna gave notes on the scripts. She's now a producer. She's very involved, and she has a 360-degree view of things that, frankly, you don't find with most actors. I think she'll have a long career. It likely wasn't easy for Ortega to really put her foot down about the environment on Wednesday and what she was experiencing. It also couldn't have been easy for Gough to hear about what was going on, and what the Scream actress thought of the series. But he seems to be liking the charge that she took. Now, as a producer, Ortega has more of a say and can better control things for the acclaimed Netflix hit. And I hope that Gough is right about Ortega having a long career. Jenna Ortega admitted to being an 'unhappy person' during Season 1, but her mentality has since changed since she's able to sit in on meetings, listen, and learn more. She also has a lot more say in what goes into the second season, like wanting to add more horror and gore to the show, which is what's happening. It should be interesting to see how different Season 2 is compared to Season 1, especially since it already sounds like there were some big changes. Ahead of Wednesday Season 2, the show has already had a third season renewal and is seemingly getting closer to a potential spinoff. It's not so surprising, considering the Addams Family has been a favorite for decades, and there are a lot of stories to tell. But a spinoff for Ortega's series has yet to be confirmed. Fans will soon see what Wednesday Season 2 is all about when the first part drops on August 6, followed by part 2 on September 3, with a Netflix subscription. There are also many upcoming titles on Netflix's schedule to look forward to. Solve the daily Crossword

Why Jenna Ortega's 'Trust' In The Wednesday Season 2 Writers Gives Me So Much Confidence Going Into These New Episodes

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Jenna Ortega turned a lot of heads with her snakeskin look at the London Wednesday premiere on Wednesday, but I want to talk about one question she answered while on the purple carpet for the show's second season. Following all the controversy over Ortega and her thoughts on the writer's room, she was asked how she shaped Wednesday's storyline as an executive producer this time around. And, her comments have me more excited for the episodes to come. Jenna Ortega Shares Her Role As Executive Producer On Wednesday Season 2 MTV asked the actress about how her role as executive producer helped shape Wednesday Addams' arc this season. Here's how she responded: The story arc was actually happening while we were filming, so it was just more so, you know as the scripts were coming in and as the episodes were going, it was quick shifts and changes, but we really have so much trust in our writers, so I kind of let them do what they needed to do, and then when Tim [Burton] and I felt the need to step in we did. But, it always was in a like adding on top of or elaborating to a further extent. Have you heard the background on what happened last season? After the record-breaking debut of Wednesday, Jenna Ortega talked about being 'almost unprofessional' on the set of Season 1 by changing lines and refusing to read certain dialogue because she didn't agree with some of the material. These comments led to one TV producer calling her statements 'beyond and entitled and toxic,' and backlash about it blew up so much further that she was quoted on the writer's strike picket line signs. She has since said that she 'probably could have used [her] words better' and got so 'sick' of herself and how her words came back to bite her later. However, there was change on Wednesday, and now Ortega is more involved and seemingly a lot happier with the collaborative process. Her New Comments Make Me More Excited For What's To Come On Wednesday These new comments show a much more cohesive opinion of the writers from Jenna Ortega, and signal to me that she, Tim Burton and the creators of Wednesday are on the same page regarding the direction of Wednesday as a series and the direction of Wednesday Addams as a character. Previously, the creators of Wednesday had said that Ortega is 'very involved' in the making of Season 2. But rather than the actress coming out and talking about all the things about the series she put her name on specifically, I appreciate how she is calling the TV show for what it is, a collaborative process where the writers are doing a lot of legwork to provide the storyline of the series. As a fan, I definitely understood both points of view in the controversy, because I could see how, as a young woman, Ortega might not feel like she resonated with all the writing. However, at the same time how the writers might have felt undermined by her alleged behavior and attitude about it. With her now as an executive producer, she has more behind-the-scenes agency, and I think it's going to make Wednesday Season 2 better all around for it. Part 1 of Wednesday Season 2 is set to premiere for those with a Netflix subscription on August 6. Solve the daily Crossword

Netflix just renewed ‘Wednesday' for season 3 — and there could be a spinoff

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. It's almost time to return to Nevermore, and Netflix is already looking even further ahead. With' Wednesday' season 2 just two weeks away, the streamer has wasted no time confirming that the macabre misadventures of Wednesday Addams are far from over. A third season has officially been greenlit, and if that wasn't enough for fans of the deadpan icon, there's even talk of a spinoff series set within the same spooky universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While exact details are still under wraps, co-creator Alfred Gough teased that the 'Wednesday' team is 'definitely noodling' with ideas. Bela Bajaria, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, echoed that intrigue, hinting: 'There's a lot to explore in the Addams Family.' Whether that means we'll see more of the other family members or perhaps dive into someone new entirely, it's clear that this world is expanding. The early renewal comes as no surprise given the massive success of the first season, which broke viewership records and turned Jenna Ortega into a full-blown cultural phenomenon. With gothic flair, murder mysteries and a killer dance scene that went viral, 'Wednesday' clearly hit all the right notes and anticipation is sky-high for what's next. Ortega also offered a few words on season 2 when speaking with The Hollywood Reporter: 'Netflix has a lot more trust this time around. So we were able to do things on a grander scale and were able to spend more time on sequences. There are also a lot of new cast members like Steve Buscemi and Billie Piper, and doing a scene with them pushes you further because they're so gifted.' As for how long 'Wednesday' might continue, director Tim Burton isn't one to think too far ahead. 'I don't think that way,' he said when asked about the show's potential lifespan. 'You're talking to two of the worst people to ask that question.' Still, given the show's success and the franchise potential, it's clear Netflix sees this as more than just a passing phase. Season 2's premiere is around the corner, but if this latest news is anything to go by, fans can expect plenty more Addams antics on the horizon. "Wednesday" part 1 premieres on August 6, 2025, and part 2 follows on September 3, 2025 on Netflix. Follow Tom's Guide on Google News to get our up-to-date news, how-tos, and reviews in your feeds.
