Watch: Zip through highways: ₹3,000 FASTag pass offers unlimited travel from Aug 15
The Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has just announced a new FASTag-based Annual Pass, designed to make highway travel smoother and more affordable for private vehicle owners.
Starting August 15, 2025, private car owners can opt for a ₹3,000 FASTag Annual Pass. This is available only for non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans.
Commercial vehicles are not allowed under this scheme. Interestingly, lorry owners are now asking the government to extend a similar pass to commercial vehicles too.
This Annual Pass is valid only on toll plazas operated by the National Highways Authority of India, which means it applies to National Highways and Expressways. If you're driving on a State Highway or a toll road run by a local body or a private operator, you'll still have to pay the regular toll.
Trip calculation depends on the type of toll system. At point-based toll plazas, one crossing is counted as one trip. If you're doing a round trip, that's two trips. On closed toll systems like some expressways entering and exiting once counts as one trip.
To activate the Annual Pass, you first need to ensure your FASTag is active and properly fixed to your vehicle. Then, visit the RajmargYatra app or the NHAI website.
Once there, enter your vehicle and FASTag details, pay ₹3,000, and you're good to go. You'll receive an SMS confirmation once the pass is activated.
The pass is valid either for 200 trips Once either limit is reached, your FASTag will automatically return to the regular toll deduction mode. And if you exhaust your trips before the year ends, you can recharge and get a new pass for another ₹3,000.
Although this is completely optional. You can continue using your regular FASTag without the annual pass.
But if you're someone who travels frequently maybe you commute daily road trips this pass could help you save anywhere between ₹5,000 and ₹10,000 a year.
The government hopes the Annual Pass will ease some of the most common frustrations among highway users things like high toll charges, too many toll plazas in short stretches, and time lost in long queues.
The Ministry says this move will help reduce congestion, avoid disputes, and make highway travel faster and fairer.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology Jitendra Singh on Thursday laid the foundation stone for India's first green data centre in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad. Expressing satisfaction about the CEL-ESDS Green Data Centre being developed by Central Electronics Limited (CEL), the CM said Uttar Pradesh will generate 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2027, with the public sector undertaking (PSU), a a Mini Ratna company, playing a key role in the mission. Speaking at the event, Adityanath described CEL's 50-year journey as a success story, saying the company has now entered the 'Amrit Kaal' and is playing a key role in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India. He recalled there was a time when CEL faced uncertain days and was even put on the list for disinvestment. 'But today, CEL has become a profit-making 'Mini Ratna' company and is handing over dividends to the government. This change is an inspiration for an atmanirbhar (self-reliant) India,' he added. The CM hailed CEL for its innovations in sectors like railways, defence, renewable energy, and education. CEL's technology and creativity are making the nation stronger and it plays a key role in areas such as smart classrooms, signaling systems, renewable energy modules, and defence equipment, he added. The CEL handed over a dividend cheque of Rs 21 crore to the Central government, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was exchanged between the PSU and Multi Infra, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company for a 200 MW solar module project. The CM said CEL made India's first solar photovoltaic module in 1974 and is now setting up the country's first green data center. On the Defence Manufacturing Corridor, he said equipment for BrahMos missiles is also being produced with the help of organisations like CEL. Out of investment proposals worth Rs 50 lakh crore, Rs 15 lakh crore of investments have already started production after the groundbreaking ceremonies, he claimed. PM Modi has often stressed the need to connect educational institutions with industry, and Uttar Pradesh has excellent institutes like IITs, IIMs, universities, and central laboratories to help achieve this goal, the CM said. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said CEL invented the first solar cell back in 1970, and now it is about to set up a green data centre. He announced that the country's first quantum unit will soon be established at Noida. In addition, a biotechnology park will be set up near Lucknow and a two- or three-day startup conclave is planned for August, he added. CEL chairman and managing director Chetan Prakash Jain said the Green Data Centre is designed to consume less energy, offer full security and meet future requirements. Through partnership with ESDS, CEL is combining modern cloud and data centre technologies with sustainability, he said. The centre will feature modular PODs, smart cooling, reflective roofing, rainwater harvesting, and multi-ISP support. It will have a total capacity of 30 MW, with the possibility of installing up to 200 racks per floor. ESDS's patented technology and managed services have ensured that the center meets global standards.

We aim to cut cost of logistics to 9% of GDP: Nitin Gadkari
New Delhi: A combination of expressways, economic corridors, digital tolling and green fuel adoption has helped significantly reduce logistics costs in the country, setting the stage for India's next growth phase, road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said on the ET Edge SCM Fest 2025, Gadkari emphasised the pivotal role of logistics in the country's economic trajectory and that logistics costs have already come down to 10% of GDP from 16%. "Our target is to bring logistics costs into single digits, around 9% by the end of this year," he said. According to Gadkari, logistics cost reductions aren't just macroeconomic indicators. They translate directly into on-the-ground benefits for exporters, small businesses, and job seekers. "Turnaround times at ports are down by 45%, and transport costs have dropped by 25%. This is especially transformative for our MSMEs, who now face fewer barriers to competing globally," he said. Highlighting the government's continued investments in modern infrastructure, Gadkari said his ministry has moved from manual toll booths to FASTag. "Now, we're building digital tolling systems that eliminate the need for physical stops altogether," he said. "This not only reduces fuel waste but also cuts travel time and improves efficiency across the board." Reiterating India's decisive shift towards clean energy in transportation and logistics, the minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels. "India will become a net energy exporter within the next seven years, driven by ethanol, biofuels, green hydrogen, and electric mobility," he said. Elaborating on the multimodal connectivity, Gadkari said the government is actively working to align national highways with port infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity while also building multi-modal logistics hubs in places like Jogighopa in Assam, Nagpur in Maharashtra, and Katra in Jammu and Kashmir under the PM Gati Shakti Yojana. "This will drastically reduce cargo handling times and improve freight movement across rail, road, and sea," he added. Talking about the reduced travel time between important cities due to development of high-speed corridors and expressways, Gadkari said by December this year, the travel time from Delhi to major cities such as Dehradun, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Katra will reduce significantly. "These are not just roads. They are economic arteries that will carry the lifeblood of trade and development across the nation," he said. Highlighting India's rise as a global automobile leader, Gadkari said the industry is now valued at ₹22 lakh crore, ranking third in the world, behind only the US and China. "Electric vehicles have vast potential for export. They're not just part of our Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, they are integral to our economic and environmental strategy," he said. "We are not just building infrastructure, we are building the future of India to help India become Atmanirbhar," the minister said.

IIIT-A student bags 1.45cr package from US company
