Umgababa Film Festival draws talent

High school learners from three Umgababa high schools joined community members in welcoming public figures that included Musa Mseleku, Naledi Aphiwe, Amawele aseChesterville, Nhloso Khwela, and DJ Khule. Nkululeko Khwela of the Nkululeko Foundation, which organised the event, said the aim of bringing to Umgababa the people the youth always see on TV was to entertain and inspire.
'We look forward to the day when the next big actor from Umgababa makes it to television, a moment that will make us all proud as a united community. Our guests expressed heartfelt appreciation for the warm welcome they received,' said Khwela.
He added that the festival also provided job opportunities for residents of Umgababa.
'That is a step forward in uplifting our community through the creative industry. As we grow, we aim to create even more opportunities for involvement and empowerment,' he said.
On behalf of the organising team, he thanked the attendees, parents, schools, teachers, artists, and service providers.

Experts say there has been a significant rise in these types of cybercrimes in South Africa. Actress and producer Connie Ferguson recently took to Instagram to warn her followers after a scammer attempted to impersonate her. Scammers are increasingly using the names and images of public figures to deceive unsuspecting victims. From fake investment schemes to bogus giveaways, con artists are exploiting social media and messaging apps to pose as well-known personalities. 'Time for a short story,' Connie wrote, sharing screenshots and a video. She said she received a WhatsApp message from someone claiming to be 'Connie Ferguson'. When she checked the number on Truecaller, it appeared as 'Madonsela'. The scammer then video-called her using an old clip from a live workout session she had posted during lockdown. 'After a few seconds, they dropped the call and texted, 'You saw me, right?'' she said. Connie made it clear that she does not offer any investment opportunities and urged her followers to remain vigilant. 'Thieves are using AI to convince you that they are whoever they say they are. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Don't be manipulated into losing your common sense because times are hard.' Nsikazi hip-hop artist drops 12-track mixtape
An up-and-coming hip-hop artist has released a 12-track mixtape, titled Not Yet, which dropped on May 25. Bhato Ndlovu (23), known by his stage name Saddis, said the project has received positive feedback, especially on social media. 'The mixtape is about love, struggling with trauma, self-improvement and confidence,' said Ndlovu. He described the songs as meaningful and relatable, highlighting tracks such as 'Walls' featuring Yung TJ, 'Missing Pieces', 'Those Days' featuring Munhle, and 'Trying' featuring Bkay Jr. ALSO READ: Young Mpumalanga stars head to national school winter games Ndlovu said he has been working on this mixtape since March last year. His passion for rap led him into music production in 2017, when he recorded his first-ever (unreleased) song using only his phone. 'I felt alive when I recorded it, not even aware of my capabilities and future in music,' he said. He draws inspiration from artists such as Zakwe, MT Vernacular MC and Eminem, who have all influenced him as a songwriter. One of his early achievements includes airplay on Ligwalagwala FM.
