But the day ended on a sad note for the driver as he failed to even finish the race, while his closest competitor, Pascal Wehrlein, clinched second spot on the podium, closing the gap between them in the Formula E Driver Standings. Rowland has confirmed that he did doubt his championship win when things didn't play out well that day.
Oliver Rowland was worried after how Round 13 turned out in Berlin
There was reason to be worried for Nissan driver Oliver Rowland when TAG Heuer Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein closed the gap between them in the Driver Standings to 50 points.
He was second in the Formula E Driver Standings and could have changed the championship outcome with two more races remaining in the season.
Sharing his fears in an interview with Formula E, he said, 'I was hoping before the weekend that the outcome could be [the World Championship], but after yesterday (Saturday) and this morning (Sunday) I was more worried that it might never come.'
Pascal Wehrlein's Round 14 performance sealed Oliver Rowland's championship win
Pascal Wehrlein ended 15th in the Round 14 race on Sunday despite starting from pole position.
Rowland eventually bounced back to finally seal his championship win by finishing fourth in the race. He missed out on the podium, which had Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy as the winner, but his 12 points, along with his closest competitor Pascal Wehrlein's disappointing performance, were enough for him to clinch the championship.
'I wasn't aware of where Pascal was at all. My engineer came on, I think with four or five laps to go, and said 'P4 is good,' and I thought that's a bit weird.

Then I looked at the TV screen, and I got to about eighth, and I thought, 'Oh, he's not in the top eight then.' The next time I came around looking again, I found him when I started from the bottom. I didn't know if he'd had a problem, so then I was aware that fourth would be enough if Wehrlein didn't score, so I knew that myself.
I didn't want to ask, because I didn't want to jinx anything,' he said.
Oliver Rowland looking forward to his home race now
Oliver Rowland took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a post to mark his Formula E Championship win. Sharing a few pictures of his celebrations with his team, the Nissan driver wrote: '2025 FIA FORMULA E WORLD CHAMPION! It still hasn't quite sunk in what we have achieved this season. I couldn't have imagined being in this position 2 years ago! Thank you to my incredible team @nismo & everyone that's supported me! Thank you for all the messages and well wishes I've received in the last 48 hours! We still have one job left to do in London!'

Revving up: Renault gets keys to Nissan's TN plant

CHENNAI: Four months after Renault Group announced its intent to buy out Nissan's 51% stake in joint India plant RNAIPL (Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd), the French auto major has completed the acquisition and become sole owner of the Oragadam/Chennai facility. 'India is a key market for Renault Group and also plays a vital role in our global R&D footprint. With full ownership of our plant in Chennai, we now have all the means to accelerate in India,' said François Provost, CEO of Renault Group. The acquisition is part of Renault Group 'accelerating its development in India' said the company in a statement. Renault Group has just named Stephane Deblaise as its CEO for India effective Sept 1, 2025 to lead the next phase of the French auto major's India strategy. Since its launch in 2010, the Chennai plant has produced more than 2.8 million vehicles — including 1.2 million exported to more than 100 countries — as well as 4.6 million engines and gearboxes. Supported by nearly 300 local suppliers, the plant has an annual production capacity of more than 400,000 vehicles; it is currently using nearly 50% capacity. Going forward, the plant will continue to manufacture Nissan cars as well as have some 'kind of contract manufacturing arrangement,' the company said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Renault expects the capacity utilization at the plant to improve as new models roll out of Oragadam for both Renault and Nissan. Currently dedicated to the CMF-A and CMF-A+ platforms, the Oragadam plant is preparing to host the group's new multi-energy modular platform, which will 'support the Renault brand's future models,' said the statement. The group is bullish on the local market's importance in its global strategy. 'Renault Group looks to India as a key driver of international expansion,' said the statement. This is part of a broader momentum, highlighted by the opening of Renault Group's largest design centre outside France, announced in April, and the launch of the new Triber — the first model in a product offensive that will include four new vehicles. Renault will both strengthen its sales in the Indian market and expand its exports. This is part of Renault brand's International Game Plan 2027. Nissan drops new teaser: Is this the upcoming Renault Triber-based 7-seater MPV?

Nissan Motor India has dropped a new teaser about something under development, and it is expected to be the upcoming Renault Triber-based MPV. The Japanese carmaker had earlier announced that it is working on a new B-segment MPV as part of its future portfolio in India and it is expected to launch in 2026 with an official debut later this year. The teaser does not reveal any details about the upcoming MPV, and much of what is currently known was announced earlier this year. This three-row seven-seater will be based on the same CMF-A+ platform that currently underpins the Renault Triber. Nissan will, however, position it as a standalone model rather than a simple rebadge, bringing a distinct design and interior. Nissan's MPV appears to carry over similar design elements seen on the recently-launched Renault Triber facelift, while bringing a distinct look that sets it apart. It is likely to retain the new grille and headlamp design, but will offer a larger front bumper with C-shaped elements flanking the lower grille. The rear-end is expected to sport a tweaked set of LED taillights, and the MPV will come with a new set of alloys and roof rails. The interior has not been revealed yet, but Nissan is highly likely to carry over all the recent upgrades with the facelifted Triber while offering a different style. The upcoming MPV is expected to be offered with the new digital console and infotainment system seen on the Renault model, while retaining the practical seven-seater layout. Nissan B-MPV: Powertrain The MPV is expected to be powered by the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that powers the Triber. This petrol unit makes 71 bhp and 96 Nm of torque and can be mated to either a five-speed manual or an AMT. These include a five-seater and a seven-seater C-SUV alongside a mass-market EV. Nissan has stated that the B-MPV, as well as the five-seater C-SUV, are currently in the pre-production phase, and both will be launched in 2026. The C-segment SUV will be based on the CMF-B platform that underpins the Renault Duster and is positioned to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Nissan will follow it up with a premium seven-seater SUV to be based on the Dacia Bigster, a stretched-out variant of the Duster. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India. Renault Group buys Nissan's remaining 51% stake in their joint plant in Chennai

Renault Group on Friday (August 1, 2025) said it has acquired Nissan's remaining 51% stake in their joint plant in Chennai (Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd – 'RNAIPL'), thus becoming its sole owner. Meanwhile, Stéphane Deblaise is appointed as chief executive officer of Renault Group in India, effective September 1, 2025. Renault Group now fully owns its Chennai plant and the strategic move strengthens the group's ambition to make India a key pillar of its international growth, the company said in a statement. Renault Group also relies on an engineering center based in India, jointly owned with Nissan, which plays an active role in developing and adapting vehicles to meet the needs of both local and international markets. The cooperation with Nissan will continue in this new context. In particular, RNAIPL will keep producing Nissan models as planned, it said. 'With full ownership of our plant in Chennai, we now have all the means to accelerate in India. Stéphane Deblaise, with his strong international experience and deep knowledge across our entire value chain, is ideally positioned to design and implement our strategy in the region.', said François Provost, CEO Renault Group. Stéphane Deblaise joined Renault Group in 2000 and has held several strategic positions within the Group's international operations. Stéphane will build on the expertise he developed in South Korea since 2022, where he led a major transformation of the business — notably by positioning the Busan site as an industrial and technological hub and repositioning the Renault brand in the Korean market, the company said. As part of its International Game Plan 2027 strategy, the Renault brand is accelerating its expansion in India, a fast-growing market, where more than 50% of the population is under the age of 28, the statement said. As the world's third-largest automotive market, India stands out as a crucial territory — a driver of innovation, a source of inspiration for new generations, and a major player in the transformation of the automotive sector, it added. Since its launch in 2010, the Chennai plant has produced over 2.8 million vehicles — including 1.2 million exported to more than 100 countries — as well as 4.6 million engines and gearboxes. Supported by an ecosystem of nearly 300 local suppliers, the plant has an annual production capacity of over 400,000 vehicles. The Renault brand is established in India with more than 350 sales outlets and 450 service points across the country.
