Bhatti in B'luru to study urban power solutions

in Hyderabad, as well as system reliability, safety, and aesthetics, Telangana deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka visited Bengaluru on Tuesday to study the power sector. The state govt is planning to use some modern technologies and projects, such as
urban grid modernisation
programmes, in Future City.
Bhatti interacted with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) managing director Pankaj Pandey, who is also MD of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited. Officials gave a presentation on Bengaluru Overhead (OH) to Underground (UG) Power Conversion Project, which has emerged as one of India's most comprehensive urban power infrastructure transformations.
The project in Bengaluru was launched in 2018-19 and has already converted over 7,400 km of 11kV OH lines and thousands of km of low-tension lines into UG or aerial bunched (AB) cables.
A key innovation has been the laying of optical fiber cable ducts along UG cable routes to enable future telecom leasing as a revenue stream.
Vikramarka enquired about the financial structuring of the project, which includes loans from Asian Development Bank (ADB), Rural Electrification Corporation, and other public sector banks. The reduction in technical losses and electrical accidents, which BESCOM confirmed fell by up to 2% since UG implementation, was also discussed.
Bhatti also sought to know the readiness of OFC infrastructure for commercial use, to which BESCOM responded that while ducts are in place, last-mile coordination with telecom operators and BBMP is going on.
Later in the day, the Deputy CM visited a pilot site in Malleshwaram (15th Cross) where an Underground Distribution network, including an underground Transformer (DTR) system, has been implemented. The site showcased how DTRs can be housed in fully buried chambers with accessible maintenance panels at street level, freeing up urban space and improving safety.

Kolkata: The final examination under Calcutta University's choice-based credit system (CBCS) saw a drastic increase in the pass percentage after the final results were published on Thursday. A total of 77.5% of students in BA Honours passed, compared to 52.6% last year. In BSc Honours, 80.9% of students passed, compared to 77.5% recorded last year. The sixth-semester exams for UG students ended on July 15. The university published the results within a month of the completion of the exams. In BA Honours, 23,948 students were enrolled, while 23,900 students appeared for the exams. In BSc Honours, 8,932 students were enrolled for the exams, while 8,895 students appeared for the exams. Interim VC Santa Datta De, said: "This year, both BA and BSc results improved compared to last year, even the results for general and major, too. Even examinees took their exams seriously, which was reflected in the results." KEA revises choice entry, fee payment schedule for first-round UG CET/NEET admissions
BENGALURU: The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has announced a revised choice entry schedule for candidates allotted seats in the first round of UG CET/NEET courses. KEA Executive Director H Prasanna urged candidates to pay the fees within the stipulated time and secure admission to the allotted college without fail. For Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary, Pharm-D, Yoga and Naturopathy, BPT, BPO, Allied Health Sciences, Architecture, Nursing, and Homeopathy courses, choice entry will remain open until 11 am on August 14. Fee payment can be made until 4 pm the same day, and the last date to report to colleges is August 15. For Medical and Dental courses, the choice entry link will be active from 1 pm on August 14 to August 16. Fee payment is allowed until August 18, and candidates must report to colleges by August 19. Those opting for Choice-1 must pay fees online, download the seat allotment letter, and report to the allotted college with all original documents. Document verification will now be conducted at the college level, and candidates must carry originals as per their claim category.
