Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster shares 'icing on the cake' moment with blended family

Daily Mirror25-04-2025

Sir Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster has opened up about her and the Maggie May singer's huge blended family, including the 'icing on the cake' for her and his ex-wife, Rachel Hunter
Penny Lancaster has confessed a touching "icing on the cake" episode within her large, mixed family with rock legend husband Sir Rod Stewart.
During a heart-to-heart with Coleen Nolan on a fresh instalment of Loose Women: The Podcast, Penny discussed her and the 'Maggie May' hitmaker's extended clan.

Rod is the father to eight children: Sarah, Kimberly, Sean, Ruby, Renee, Liam, Alastair Wallace, and Aiden Patrick, from relationships with five women: Susannah Boffey, Alana Stewart, Rachel Hunter, and his spouse Penny herself.
With such a huge brood, Coleen probed into how she copes with meshing everyone. The 54 year old admitted her uncertainty about "what it would be like" amid a "divorce situation" when your kids go off on holiday with a "new wife."
She pondered that had her offspring been younger and had she been in the shoes of Rod's previous partners, her concerns may have spiked over another woman having "influence" on her children or making contentious decisions, reports Edinburgh Live.

Still, she assured us she 'really did take into account' the feelings of the biological mum when she was with Rod's little ones, acknowledging she "could only imagine" the complexities for the kids dealing with their parents' divorce.
Advancing the conversation, Coleen queried whether Penny believes she could contend with such a scenario now as a mother. Penny clarified: "Now my boys are older, I wouldn't have a problem with that at all."

Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster has spoken about the bond between her children and those of her husband's ex-partners, revealing that they all get along famously.
Speaking on Loose Women, Penny said: "You know, my children, I made sure that they got to know Rachel and Kelly and Alana. And, you know, I'd go to see Liam's hockey game and Rachel would be there; my little boys would be there."
She added: "And I think the best gift of all is that Liam, Rachel's son, recently got married last summer, and he asked my son to be his best man, so, you know, that's kinda that icing on the cake."

In other news, it's been reported that Rod Stewart enjoys a life of luxury when it comes to his dining habits. According to his wife Penny, the rocker indulges in three-course meals every evening, complete with candles.
Penny revealed on BBC Celebrity MasterChef in 2021 that Rod's love of fine dining means she doesn't often cook for him. She said: "Rod kind of likes the fine dining every evening, three-course dinners, candles, and it's kind of out of my league, so I do the kids' cooking but otherwise, not really au fait."
The 80 year old singer has also been announced as the Legends slot performer at this year's Glastonbury Festival. It will be his first time performing at the festival since 2002, when he headlined on the iconic Pyramid Stage.

Sue Cleaver reflects on '25 years of laughs' after Coronation Street exit

Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver has reflected on '25 years of laughs and tears' following her character's exit from the show. Eileen Grimshaw had a special send-off during Friday's episode of the soap, where she was seen leaving for Thailand alongside her son Jason Grimshaw, played by Ryan Thomas. Simon Gregson's character Steve McDonald, Tony Maudsley's George Shuttleworth, and Eileen's son Todd, played by Gareth Pierce, all said goodbye to the matriarch before drivers from the local taxi firm honked their horns as she was driven off. In an Instagram post, Cleaver said: 'Well… that's a wrap. 25 years of laughs, tears, costumes, chaos — and one unforgettable journey. 'I'll miss this character like crazy, but what a ride it's been. Thank you for every moment.' Cleaver has played the outspoken and uncomplicated Eileen in the STV show since 2000. Eileen came to Weatherfield to work at the local taxi firm, Streetcars, to provide for her two tearaway teenage children, Jason and Todd. She soon became friends with her boss Steve and came into conflict with Helen Worth's character Gail Rodwell (also known as Gail Platt). Cleaver took part in I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022, where she opened up about reconciling with her birth mother, and was eliminated third. She also said her family is 'bizarrely interconnected' to other Coronation Street stars, including Worth who is godmother to one of her half-sisters, while her other half-sister's husband, John Bowe, appeared on the cobbles as Duggie Ferguson. In 2024, she released a book A Work In Progress in which she discusses how she feels she is not past her prime. In recent years, she has appeared as a panellist on the STV chat show Loose Women. We tried the new Edinburgh Gordon Ramsay Sunday menu and had some thoughts

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Edinburgh has countless world-class restaurants offering food for any craving you might need to satisfy, but sometimes the thing you want most is a classic Sunday roast. A good roast is homey and familiar yet still manages to surprise you with new flavours or a fresh twist on the classic meal. For a top notch Sunday roast, look no further than Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen and Bar. Nestled at 4 St Andrew Square beside Dishoom, the centre city eatery is now a staple of Edinburgh's fine dining portfolio, offering a gourmet menu with the best of British traditional cuisine. Founded in 1998, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants operates nearly 40 locations nationwide and approximately 100 globally. The chain recently launched a brand new Sunday set menu so I went down to St Andrew Square on a Sunday evening for a taste of their roast. The new set menu comes with the option of two courses for £35 per person or three courses for £40 per person. This will leave something of a dent in your wallet, but rest assured the portions were generous and the quality was well worth the price, especially if you opt to throw in five quid extra for another course. As a vegetarian, I admit the menu shrinks considerably, but the meatless options left me satisfied and are suitable even for pickier eaters. (Image: Edinburgh Live) For a starter I ordered the the red pepper gazpacho. Presentation was tidy and colourful. The chilled soup was exactly what you want from a gazpacho - light, refreshing, and herby. It carried a heavy garlic punch that balanced with the blended red peppers. When my main dish arrived I posed for an obligatory photo shoot to the chagrin of surrounding diners. I ordered the one vegetarian offering on the Sunday set menu: the celeriac Wellington. I'll admit the celeriac root inside the Wellington shell was an interesting choice. As a vegetarian, I'm familiar with vegetables being disguised as meat in ways that usurp the traditional dish - such as spicy cauliflower wings, or portobello mushroom burgers. I wasn't sure how the celeriac root held up in this regard, being slightly tough in texture. (Image: Edinburgh Live) However, the Wellington shell was stuffed with fragrant chopped mushrooms and the dish was served with heavenly cream sauce that redeemed the off choice of vegetable. It was also accompanied by mash and buttery spinach which allowed for the perfect bite when combined with the Wellington. For meat-eaters, my friend ordered the steak which she demolished in minutes and called "incredible". I didn't try it myself we'll just have to take her word for it. For my final course, I went for another classic with the sticky toffee pudding. This was one of the best sticky toffee puddings I've ever had, which was impressive given that I was already full to the brim and wasn't sure if I could fit dessert. (Image: Edinburgh Live) As a nightcap my guest and I ordered two espresso martinis which arrived with a powdering of cacao powder. They were slightly sweet for my liking but gave a nice kick of caffeine after the big meal. Overall, the meal was a solid Sunday roast. The vibe was fancy yet casual, a good option for a fine dining experience that is more accessible to families and dates. If you're seeking a homey roast for an upscale evening out, the set menu is one to watch. To make a booking, head to the Gordon Ramsay Bread Street Kitchen & Bar website here.

Calls for added Edinburgh ScotRail services to support TRNSMT festival goers

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info ScotRail have been urged to provide extra services for TRSMT after trains were axed following the festival finale last year. The Scottish Greens have called on the public service provider to ensure revellers are able to get home safely from the event. Those in attendance at the Glasgow Green event next month will flock in their thousands from across Scotland, including the capital. This year's three-day music festival will see acts such as 50 Cent, Fontaines D.C., Biffy Clyro and Glasgow DJs Big Miz and Hayley Zalazzi in the lineup, the Daily Record reports. Scottish Greens co-leader and MSP for Patrick Harvie said: "At previous events with such large crowds, the east end of the city becomes totally blocked off for transport and pedestrians, with many waiting hours for taxis or risking walking home in the dark. "People going out to enjoy festivals, gigs and other events around our city deserve to get home safely and having a reliable late night train service can offer that. I strongly urge them to do so. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sentstraight to your messages. "If ScotRail were to run additional train services over that weekend, and later into the night, it would provide a safe, cheaper and climate friendly option to get home from TRNSMT for thousands of people." Last year, thousands of revellers were told by transport chiefs there would be no services on the final day of the event. Punters were told by ScotRail it was only running as an emergency service. Ticketholders were told to find an alternative route home. At the time, dozens of concerned parents contacted the Record after it became clear many of their loved ones wouldn't be able to get home from the festival unless they left early. One said: "My son's first festival age 16 and going to miss acts after 8.30 due to trains. So gutted for him." Another added: "Shocking especially when travelling from Edinburgh." Meanwhile, Irish rap group Kneecap were recently axed from the line up of the music festival amid safety fears. The trio made up of Liam Og O Hannaigh (Mo Chara), JJ O Dochartaigh (aDJ Provai) and Naoise O Caireallain (Moglai Bap), are no longer set to play Glasgow Green on Friday, July 11 due to concerns over the safety of the event. Police Scotland had previously said the performance at Glasgow Green in July would require "a significant policing operation". The decision came after a member of the Irish language group being charged with a terror offence after allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed organisation Hezbollah at a London gig. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox Kneecap were also criticised over 2023 gig footage that appeared to show a band member saying: "The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP." The band posted a statement on X and said: "Due to concerns expressed by the Police about safety at the event, Kneecap can no longer perform at TRNSMT." The Record approached ScotRail for comment.
