The CBI has arrested Deputy Director of Enforcement Directorate in Odisha, Chintan Raghuvanshi, in connection with an alleged bribery case, officials said Friday.
The agency had conducted a trap operation on Thursday on getting inputs that the officer was allegedly going to take the bribe amount of Rs 20 lakh from a Bhubaneswar-based mining businessman, they said.
Raghuvanshi, a 2013-batch IRS officer, was allegedly caught during the operation and later arrested after questioning, they said.

The DC instructed that the festival be celebrated in a traditional manner without disturbing law and order or hurting religious sentiments. She assured that the district administration will take precautionary measures for this purpose. She also directed the officials of the urban development department to prioritise waste disposal during Bakrid, and to manage it systematically. Additionally, officials from the animal husbandry and revenue departments were instructed to provide all necessary support to the police department. To prevent illegal cattle transportation, 24 checkposts have been set up by the police department, and offenders involved in such activities can face up to 7 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. The DC advised public not to believe any fake news on social media that could incite religious sentiments, and encouraged them to contact the district administration and police control rooms for accurate information. She urged people of all faiths to engage in peaceful and harmonious celebrations of Bakrid. District police superintendent Narayan M mentioned that peace meetings have been conducted in all police station jurisdictions to maintain peace and harmony during Bakrid. Social media platforms are being monitored 24/7 to prevent the spread of fake news. A heightened police presence has been arranged for four days during Bakrid. He warned against inflammatory speeches and urged the public to immediately inform the nearest police station of any law violations, assuring strict action against offenders. Leaders of Hindu and Muslim organisations present at the meeting emphasised that the district is known for its peace, and will not allow any untoward incidents during Bakrid. They committed to celebrating the festival peacefully and harmoniously, and assured continuous support to the district administration for maintaining a peaceful environment.

Dharwad: Deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu has directed the HDMC and other local bodies in the district to initiate action to remove the stray cattle occupying the roads and other public places and send them to goshalas. Taking a serious note of the report, DC Divya who chaired a district level meeting of officials from the police, veterinary, revenue and HDMC said the stray cattle should be sent to goshalas. "If the cattle found occupying a road or public place belongs to an owner, he should penalised and punished as per the law. The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020 stupulates imposing a fine of Rs 3 lakh and imprisonment upto five years" the DC said. The DC directed the officials to ensure that animal slaughter is done in places that have been permitted as per law and not at unauthorised places. Task force formed The DC also constituted task forces under the chairmanship of tahasildar's of respective taluks to oversee the proper implementation of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020 during Bakrid which will be observed on June 7. The meeting was attended by all the tahasildars, veterinary department officers, police officers and others.

Haridwar: A 25-year-old man from Delhi was swept away while bathing in the Ganga at the Golf Course ghat in Rishikesh on Thursday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Sachin Kumar, was a resident of Nirman Vihar in Delhi and had arrived in Haridwar earlier in the day with a female companion. Officials said that Sachin ventured into deep waters and was swept away by the strong current while his friend remained on the riverbank. "Our teams launched a search operation immediately, but we've not been able to trace him so far," said State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) area in-charge Kavindra Sajwan. He added that Sachin was employed at a private firm in Delhi and his family has been informed about the incident. Search and rescue operations by the SDRF were on till the filing of this report. The incident adds to a growing list of drowning cases in the region. On Sunday, Guddu Yadav, a supervisor at a Gurgaon-based transport company, drowned in Rishikesh. Just last month, Pradeep Dhaka, a 35-year-old bank employee from Haryana, drowned in the Chilla canal. In another incident, the bodies of two young girls swept away by the Ganga were recovered by SDRF in April. "Till Jan, we recovered around 20 bodies from the river—most of them from the Rishikesh region—while eight persons were rescued by our teams from the Rishikesh and Raiwala areas," said Sajwan.
