In a move akin to cigarette warning labels, authorities are now placing prominent health warnings on high-fat, high-sugar items such as samosas, jalebis, pakoras, vada pav, and even chai biscuits. The initiative, launched at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur, hopes to nudge citizens toward mindful eating by spotlighting the excessive oil, sugar, and trans fats present in these snacks.

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) on Monday strictly advised medical aspirants not to seek admission in undergraduate medical courses at three medical colleges in Central America and one in Uzbekistan. Failure to adhere to the advisory will result in ineligibility for medical registration in India, the NMC stated. The medical colleges in question are: Central American Health and Sciences University, Belize Columbus Central University, Belize Washington University of Health and Sciences, Belize Chirchik Branch of Tashkent State Medical University, Uzbekistan The alert was issued after the Indian Embassy in Mexico and the Eurasia Division of the Ministry of External Affairs raised serious concerns that these institutions were not meeting the required Indian standards in medical education. 'It is also advised that, before seeking admission to any foreign medical institute or university, prospective students and their parents carefully read the alert/advisory uploaded on the National Medical Commission (NMC) website dated 19th May 2025. The advisory contains critical information regarding recognised institutions, eligibility criteria, and other important guidelines,' said the alert issued by Sukh Lal Meena, Director, Under-Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB).

He urged the attendees to recognize symptoms early and seek medical advice promptly rather than ignoring or self-treating chronic ailments. Dr. Murali particularly emphasized lifestyle-related health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, which are increasingly affecting rural populations. He advised diabetic patients to alter their dietary habits, specifically recommending the inclusion of roti (Indian flatbread) in their daily meals as a healthier alternative to rice-based diets. He also highlighted the need for physical activity, reduced intake of processed sugars, and regular follow-ups with certified healthcare providers. Community Participation The program saw active participation from the local healthcare team, including: Staff Nurse Ragini Madam, who assisted in clinical evaluations and awareness sessions Pharmacist Jilani, who managed the dispensing of medicines and guided patients on dosage and usage CO Halim Pasha, who coordinated logistics and ensured smooth operations during the camp ASHA Worker Sridevi, who mobilized community members and played a crucial role in reaching women and elderly patients The medical camp received a positive response from villagers, many of whom expressed gratitude for the free services and the personalized attention given by the healthcare professionals. India and Nepal on Monday signed an agreement to implement five "high-impact" development projects related to education and health in the Himalayan nation under an Indian grant assistance of ₹390 million, according to an official statement. The Embassy of India and Nepal's Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and Project Implementing Agencies signed Memorandums of Understanding, the Indian mission here said in a statement. The five "High Impact Community Development Projects" include the construction of various school buildings in the Madhesh and Sudurpashchim provinces. It also includes the construction of a five-bed hospital building in the Gandaki province, the press release said. The construction of these facilities will help provide better education and health facilities to the people in Nepal, it said. "As close neighbours, India and Nepal share wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation," said the statement, adding that the projects' implementation reflects the "continued support" of the Indian government in bolstering the Nepal government's efforts in "empowerment of its people by augmenting infrastructure in priority sectors.
