BJP, NCP (SP) workers clash a day after altercation between Gopichand Padalkar, Jitendra Awhad
On Thursday evening, a physical altercation broke out as workers from both the parties came face-to-face at the staircase of the legislative building. The incident has its roots in the altercation between Padalkar and Awhad on Wednesday evening at the parking area of the legislative building, where both allegedly abused each other.
Maharashtra assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has sought a detailed report on the incident, after Awhad informed the Assembly about the threats he had received and claimed that the workers had come to target him.
'They were here to target me. But since I had gone out after my speech in the assembly, they found my workers and beat them,' he said. Narverkar directed that he will ensure safety of every MLA and a detailed report should be submitted to him.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the incident. 'The Speaker and the Chairman should take a serious note of it. I have requested them to take a strict action. This does not reflect the culture of the legislature,' he said.
Former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray demanded strict action against the goons. 'Those are not political workers, but goons. Is this what we have reduced to?' asked Thackeray.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Fadnavis, Awhad said, 'What's the use of becoming an MLA if they are not safe within the campus of the Legislature? If an accused under MCOCA can come to the legislative building, then it is important that authorities take serious note of it.'
Padalkar was called by state revenue minister and BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule after the NCP-SP delegation of Awhad and senior MLA Jayant Patil held a meeting with CM Fadnavis. 'The incident is unfortunate. I apologise to the Speaker and Chairman. I will speak to the media only after I have discussed the matter with the party leadership,' said Padalkar.

Next cabinet meet will discuss panel report on Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah
Eleven people died and many were injured in the incident. Responding to a question on demand by several people, including retired Supreme Court Justice V Gopala Gowda for immediate constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the alleged mass murder, rape, and mass burials in Dharmasthala, over the past two decades, the CM said, the government will go ahead in the case in accordance with the law, based on police department's report. "If SIT is necessary, it will be constituted. It will be based on the police department's report. The individual (eyewitness, a former sanitation worker who claimed that "hundreds of bodies" had been buried in the area), was absconding for 10 years, he has now made a statement before the police and has said whatever he has to. He has said that he is the one who has buried the dead bodies and that he will show the spot where they are buried. Let's see what the police say in a couple of days," he said. Asserting that there was no pressure on the government in this case, the CM said, "even if the pressure is put, we will not heed to anything, we will do things in accordance with law." Replying to a question on opposition BJP's criticism of his government's mega "Sadhana Samavesha" convention in Mysuru, planned on Saturday, Siddaramaiah said, development works worth Rs 2,658 crore will be inaugurated and foundation stones will be laid during the event. "Is it being done just like that." He questioned what the BJP has done for Mysuru. Amid speculations that the event was Siddaramaiah's show of strength to strengthen his grip over CM seat, he clarified that it is no one's show of strength. It was aimed at showcasing the Congress government's work before the people, because BJP is spreading misinformation that the government was not doing anything and it doesn't have money because of implementation of guarantee schemes. To a question on urban voters not supporting Congress during elections, Siddarmaihah said, it cannot be said outrightly. It is with support of all voters the party has come to power. He cited the examples of Mysuru and Bengaluru. Downplaying a question on curiosity surrounding "September revolution" as claimed by some Congress leaders, amid speculation about CM change, he said, "ask those who said it. Even if those who have said are from my party, they have not told me about it. Ask them."

A video circulated on social media shows Pawar visibly angry, confronting a police officer at Azad Maidan station. In the clip, he is heard saying: " Don't raise your voice. If you're not able to speak, don't speak." Pawar later told reporters at Vidhan Bhavan that a police officer had raised his voice and failed to provide clear information, which led to the argument. 'We only came to ask about our colleague. Instead of helping us, the police were vague and evasive,' he alleged. An official said the leaders later met Deshmukh at JJ Hospital. He is believed to have suffered injuries during the alleged assault. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo In a strongly worded statement, Rohit Pawar accused the police of acting on political instructions. 'After goons attacked our party worker Nitin Deshmukh in the Legislative Assembly, instead of arresting the goons—who are accused under MCOCA—Nitin Deshmukh himself was arrested. Due to the assault on the spot where he had surgery two months ago, we demanded to meet him to inquire about his condition, but the police made us run around to four or five different police stations for 3 to 4 hours, giving evasive answers and even treating Awhad Saheb disrespectfully with gestures,' he said. 'If the police administration is going to act according to the law, we will cooperate. But what if some police act on political orders? Whom should we seek justice from? If police acting on political orders do not even respect elected representatives, what must be the plight of the common people? There are countless incidents—like that of the elderly woman whose land was grabbed, Gyaneshwari Munde, the Deshmukh family, the Suryavanshi family—where the accusations are against those in power. Should they expect justice or not?", he added further.
