OPP spokesperson Const. Michael Fathi said in an email that the tow company had notified OPP of a collision on Highway 417, with a tow truck driver calling the OPP Communications Centre in Kanata.

Damage was deemed to be minimal and 'he was instructed to tell the drivers to exchange their information and attend the CRC' in Kanata when they had time. 'Instead, the tow truck driver told the vehicle owner that the OPP instructed him to tow the vehicle to the CRC,' Fathi said.

The tow truck operator also didn't use the proper method to tow the vehicle, causing damage to the transmission by dragging the rear wheels, police said.

Fathi said during a meeting between the Ottawa OPP commander and towing companies earlier this year the companies were told there would be tougher measures taken against firms and drivers that didn't follow the laws.

Man shot dead by Ontario police near Turkey Point Marina, watchdog investigating
The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a 22-year-old man was shot and killed by police on Tuesday afternoon in Turkey Point. Norfolk County OPP say the marine unit tried to stop a boater who entered a marina and fled on foot and that the individual was found by the emergency response team and canine unit. 'During the interaction, police discharged their firearm. The individual was pronounced deceased,' police said, adding that no further comment would be provided as the SIU is now investigating. Bracebridge man's disappearance 2 years ago remains a mystery with no new leads

Daniel Holden was initially reported missing on Sept. 12, 2023. Police say he was last seen one month earlier on August 12. His partner of four years, Christy Stengel, told CTV News in an interview just months after his disapperance he had gone to Bracebridge to gather some clothing from his apartment. 'And it didn't happen that way,' she said. Stengel said Holden may have gone to Casino Rama in Orillia, but police have not confirmed those details. Firefighters were called to a home on Cache Bay Crescent at 4:52 a.m. on reports of flames from the upper floors. Fire crews arrived and rescued a resident at 5:01 a.m. A second alarm to bring in additional resources was called at 5:15 a.m., according to a news release.
