Poundland reveals major change for Perk scheme members

Customers who use the 'Poundland Perk' app will now collect 'Perk points' to be able to be spent in store.
These points can then be converted into vouchers for online or in-store usage when shoppers have spent enough to hit at least 5,000 points.
It's a change from the previous setup which had member-only discounts off hundreds of items in store.
In an email sent to Perk members from the Poundland team yesterday (May 23), it read: 'We've listened to your feedback and from May 21, 2025, the app will now be changing to points and prizes.
'That means we'll be offering all customers our very best pricing on the shelf and online – without having to add Poundland Perks prices found in the app."
Any points earned when shopping will still be totalled up on the app, and individuals will still be able to take part in the weekly competition run by the store.
It said: 'Of course, you can continue to earn points as you shop at Poundland in store and online when you scan your Poundland Perks app at checkout – and you'll still be able to play our weekly Win it Wednesday competition to win points and prizes.
Recommended reading:
'Once you've accumulated 5,000 points you'll be able to convert those points to a £1 voucher to redeem In-store and online, by turning the toggle on before the 15th of every month.'
Launched in October last year, the Perks app was the value retailer's first rewards scheme and surpassed one million downloads just one month after its launch.
Following a pilot scheme in Scotland, Northern Ireland and on the Isle of Wight, the retailer created the 'convenient' app to help customers save even more in the lead up to Christmas.

The spokesperson for Poundland added: "It's correct our Newquay store is sadly set to close on 1 August as we've been unable to agree terms that would allow us to keep trading there. A spokesperson also said the huge loss was "due to a non-cash impairment at Poundland that relates to the acquisition of the UK chain in 2016". RETAIL PAIN IN 2025 The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury's hike to employer NICs will cost the retail sector £2.3billion. Research by the British Chambers of Commerce shows that more than half of companies plan to raise prices by early April. A survey of more than 4,800 firms found that 55% expect prices to increase in the next three months, up from 39% in a similar poll conducted in the latter half of 2024. Three-quarters of companies cited the cost of employing people as their primary financial pressure. The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has also warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year. It comes on the back of a tough 2024 when 13,000 shops closed their doors for good, already a 28% increase on the previous year. Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR said: "The results for 2024 show that although the outcomes for store closures overall were not as poor as in either 2020 or 2022, they are still disconcerting, with worse set to come in 2025." Professor Bamfield has also warned of a bleak outlook for 2025, predicting that as many as 202,000 jobs could be lost in the sector. "By increasing both the costs of running stores and the costs on each consumer's household it is highly likely that we will see retail job losses eclipse the height of the pandemic in 2020."

Cheapest places to buy fans this week as hot weather hits – and prices start at £1.50

Find out which retailer is stocking the cheapest fan FAN OF THAT Cheapest places to buy fans this week as hot weather hits – and prices start at £1.50 AFTER a washout start to the week, sunshine is finally on the cards but with that comes sleepless, sweaty nights. Luckily, you don't have to shell out big bucks to stay cool, as we've rounded up the best bargain fans to snap up this week with prices starting from as little as £1.50. 7 The sun is crawling out again this week Credit: Alamy We've trawled through supermarkets, discount stores and tech retailers to find the top deals on fans of all shapes and sizes, from desk coolers and neck fans to tower and pedestal options. Of course, prices and stock can change daily, so it's always worth doing a bit of your own digging, but this guide should give you a good head start. Here's what retailers have to offer this week. Poundland 7 Poundland's desk fan is a fantastic low budget option Credit: Poundland Poundland is selling a 4-inch desk fan for just £3 and its one of the cheapest options around. It's only available in-store, so you'll have to make the trip but it's still cheaper than the same size fan at Asda, which is priced at £5. If you'd rather shop online, Amazon is stocking the same 4-inch fan for £3.99. Asda also has handheld fans for £1.50 and a 9-inch desk fan for £15 if you're after something slightly bigger. Aldi 7 Aldi's Portable Air Cooler costs less that £15 Credit: aldi Aldi's got a bit of a gem this week. Shoppers are raving about the Ambiano Portable Air Cooler with LED lights, that retails for £14.99. It's got a carry handle, a 1.5m USB-C charging cable, and it's small enough to move from room to room. Mrs Hinch raves about £2 Home Bargains buy that 'adds charm to your garden' & a £10 product that's 'cheaper than Amazon' But it's a Specialbuy, so once it's gone, it's gone and you'll have to head to your nearest store to bag it. Lidl 7 Lidl fans are racing to get the Russel Hobbs 'dupe' fan Credit: lidl Lidl is selling a Silvercrest bladeless desk fan for £29.99 and it's being dubbed a dupe of a £100 Russell Hobbs model. Features include four settings (speed, timer, oscillation and on/off), a remote control, and a sleek matt finish with a non-slip base. Better yet, Lidl Plus app users get £10 off – bringing it down to just £19.99. Home Bargains 7 Home Bargains' wearable fan is good choice for commuters Credit: home bargains Home Bargains is packed with cheap cooling options. Its wearable neck fan is only £4.99, which is great for commuting, running, or even gardening. It's USB rechargeable, quiet, has multiple speed settings, and it won't munch through batteries like other models. You can also grab a 4-inch desk fan for just £2.99, which is cheaper than Asda, Amazon and Poundland. And for something bigger, there's a 32-inch oscillating tower fan for £19.99 – the same one sells for £30 at Dunelm. Currys 7 Currys is selling a portable hot and cool fan Credit: currys Currys is offering a portable hot and cool fan for £16.99 which is great for unpredictable weather as it has both hot and cold settings. There's also a 9-inch fan for £15.99, and you'll get 3 months of Apple Music thrown in for free. Both are available online and in-store. Screwfix 7 Screwix offers an afforable 16-inch pedestal fan Credit: screwfix Screwfix is selling a 16-inch pedestal fan for £18.99. It has three speeds, an oscillation setting, adjustable tilt and height, and pumps out nearly 50 litres of air per second. It also comes with a one-year guarantee. For something smaller, Toolstation is selling a 9-inch desk fan for £9.98 – down 25% from its usual price. The verdict All in all, the best bargain of the week goes to Home Bargains, where you can nab a 4-inch desk fan for just £2.99. Its the lowest price we've seen of that model and its perfect for office workers or to stick on your bedside at night. If you want a bigger cooling hit, the 32-inch tower fan for £19.99 at Home Bargains is a close second and a tenner cheaper than its high street rival. For those looking for the cheapest on the go cooler, it has to be Asda's £1.50 handheld fan. Although Home Bargains £5 neck fan is another great option for when you're on the go. How to compare prices While all these deals are solid, it's important to remember that not every 'sale' price is actually a bargain. That's where price comparison tools can come in handy. Websites like Google Shopping let you type in a product name or model number to instantly compare prices across dozens of retailers. PriceSpy is great if you want to look at a product's price history – it tracks prices from over 3,000 stores including Amazon, Argos and the major supermarkets. Idealo works in a similar way and ranks products from the cheapest to the most expensive, while CamelCamelCamel focuses on Amazon deals specifically, showing you how prices have changed over time. Shopping around and doing a quick search can save you serious money and stop you getting caught out by sneaky markups. Just don't forget to factor in delivery fees and check stock before heading to stores to avoid disappointment.
