HC to monitor probe into drug racket involving Hoshiarpur jail officials
The HC made it clear that it would monitor the investigation in the present case and asked SP, Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Rupnagar range, to furnish a status report on the investigation. Expressing dismay over the non-arrest of jail officials involved in the drug racket inside the jail, the HC was also of the view that it was equally shocking to note that SIM cards and mobile phones were supplied to the hardened criminals by these jail officials, and they were acting as conspirators in the drug racket.
"It is equally shocking to note that the senior-most jail officials were acting as a drug mafia, and it is the fittest case for invoking the extraordinary jurisdiction of this court under Section 528 of BNS in the present case. It has been brought to the notice of this court that Baljit Singh, jail superintendent, and several other senior officials of the jail department are still at large, and the police have not been able to arrest them to further establish the links of this drug nexus in central jail, involving the high-risk prisoners," the HC observed in its detailed order released last week.

Punjab govt has already formed an SIT headed by the Superintendent of Police (ANTF) Rupnagar and is being monitored by ADGP (ANTF) Punjab.
Justice Naresh Singh Shekhawat passed these orders while dismissing the bail petition filed by two accused in this drug racket inside Hoshiarpur jail. Dismissing the plea of two accused in the case, Bagga Singh and Narvir Singh, the HC observed that the grant of concession of anticipatory bail to both petitioners would amount to denial of fair assistance to the investigating agency to probe the case seriously and effectively.
Justice Shekhawat, however, made it clear that the matter has been kept alive only for the limited purpose of monitoring the investigation in the present case.
While fixing the case for July 21 for further hearing, the HC observed, "It is expected that SIT shall investigate the matter fairly and impartially."

Noida: A former human resources head of a private news channel and a head constable were arrested for allegedly breaching UP Police's crime tracking network and selling confidential information. The accused, Lalit Pandit of Greater Noida and head constable Prashant Solanki of Baghpat, were detained on Friday and arrested on Saturday. Police say Solanki provided Pandit with login credentials for the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) — a centralised database of case files, criminal histories, confidential FIRs and other sensitive information — which Pandit then used to monitor police activities and leak data for money. Savage attack: Pack of stray dogs maul 5-year-old in Trimurti Nagar
1 2 Nagpur: What was supposed to be a carefree evening turned into a brutal ordeal for 5-year-old Nitya Mongre, who was mauled by a pack of 8-10 stray dogs outside her home in Deshpande Layout, Trimurti Nagar, around 5 pm on Friday. The child, a daughter of daily wager-turned-security guard Shravan Mongre, suffered deep wounds on her neck and shoulders and is battling for recovery at Radhakrishna Hospital. "I was on my way to my hometown Mandla in MP for Rakhi when I got the call. By the time I returned, my daughter was attacked savagely," said a distraught Mongre, who moved to Nagpur just four months ago seeking work. At the time of the attack, the street was nearly deserted. A kirana shop owner spotted the assault and raised an alarm. A passing motorcyclist then rushed in, using his bike to drive away the dogs and rescue the bleeding child. Residents say this is not an isolated incident — attacks by stray dog have become disturbingly common in the city. Tribunal orders Rs22 lakh for kin of 2020 Gurgaon road crash victim
Gurgaon: The family of a two-wheeler rider who died in a 2020 road accident has been awarded Rs 22 lakh in compensation by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal. The victim was returning home when a tractor trolley carrying onions collided with his bike. The tractor driver fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle. The tribunal ordered the tractor driver and the insurance company to jointly pay the compensation The accident took place on July 24, 2020, around 9.45pm at Kadipur Chowk. The victim, Prince Malhotra, was taken to a hospital, where he died during treatment. An FIR was registered the next day at Sector 10 police station against the tractor trolley driver, identified as Parveen, and Liberty General Insurance Company under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence). The criminal case is still under trial. The tractor driver claimed he had a valid licence and argued that the compensation sought by the petitioner was excessive. However, Poonam, Prince's mother and a resident of Rajendra Park, said her son died due to the tractor driver's negligence. "The accident was caused by the rash and negligent driving of the tractor trolley driver."
