On Tuesday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide had easily one of their most impressive road performances of the year so far, routing the Troy Trojans in a Top 25 midweek matchup, 10-2.
Coming into Tuesday night's matchup, both the Crimson Tide and Trojans were ranked according the latest USA TODAY Sports College Baseball Coaches Poll, with Troy the higher-ranked of the two at No. 18 nationally. As for Alabama, the Crimson Tide were ranked at No. 20.
A result that improved Alabama's record to 37-12 overall, this game was simply all Crimson Tide from the start, as Alabama claimed a sizable lead early that they would never relinquish. This was due to a big first-and-second inning from the Crimson Tide that featured home runs from Justin Lebron and Kade Snell, while Garrett Staton and Coleman Mizell also drove in runs.
Snell was also the big story for Alabama in the win, going 4-for-5 with five RBI. The Crimson Tide also received a solid start from right-hander JT Blackwood, pitching three scoreless innings with two hits and two strikeouts.

Ty Simpson talks Ryan Williams, Alabama football wide receiver room: 'A bunch of studs'

Ty Simpson broke down the Crimson Tide's wide receiver room in his first media availability as Alabama football's newly-named starting quarterback. On Monday, the redshirt junior discussed Ryan Williams, Isaiah Horton, Germie Bernard and more, calling the 2025 group 'a bunch of studs.' 'I'm really excited about that group, man,' Simpson said. Simpson highlighted Horton, a Miami transfer, first, noting their pre-existing relationship from the high school football days in Tennessee where they played 7-on-7 football together. He then went onto talk about the veterans in the Crimson Tide's receiver room. 'Germ's coming off a big year, who I think is going to have a better year. Even the same with Ryan,' Simpson continued. With Williams' development in the weight room as he navigated injury in the offseason, Simpson sees a 'bigger, stronger' star returning to the field and finds that being a year older will be a game-changer for 'Hollywood.' The veteran leader made sure to give younger members of the room some love, too. "Then you've got guys like Derek Meadows, Lotzeir Brooks and Rico Scott who are stepping up in big ways,' Simpson said. Simpson shouted out Cole Adams and Jaylen Mbakwe as well, saying that both are doing a 'great job' and showing growth as detailed route-runners. Especially Mbakwe as he continues making the transition from defense to offense. 'It's my job to get those good players the ball,' Simpson said. Has Alabama football decided on starting kicker? Special teams coordinator Jay Nunez says 'no'

As Alabama football's first Saturday scrimmage looms, Crimson Tide kickers are still in a position battle according to special teams coordinator Jay Nunez. When asked if redshirt sophomore Conor Talty was in control of kicking for Alabama, Nunez was quick to give an outright "No" at media day on Monday. "He's done a really good job," Nunez told reporters, but as the former Oklahoma Sooners coach navigates his second season at UA, he's seeing all of his guys "kicking well." Don't count out a local walk-on Will Saturday scrimmage for Alabama football see starting kicker emerge? Nunez estimated that Talty has cleared "about 87%" of the estimated 24 attempts he's kicked so far. Backing up Graham Nicholson last fall, Talty was in charge of kickoff duties, accumulating 4,823 yards on 76 kickoffs with 41 touchbacks. He went three-for-three on PATs, nailing two against Western Kentucky and another against Mercer. Talty added a tackle to his stat line, too. The dark horse appears to be Peter Notaro, a freshman out of North Allegheny in Wexford, Penn., who Nunez said has only missed one kick. However, the 5-foot-11, 188 pound recruit who was ranked 4th in the nation in the 2025 recruiting class hasn't taken as many reps as Talty. Nonetheless, Notaro's completion rate is still sitting in the 80s, per Nunez. "Then Reid Schuback, love that kid. Came in and kind of how he's grown in the 18 months I've been here, he's having a good camp as well," Nunez said. Schuback is a redshirt senior out of Poway High in California and has been with the Crimson Tide since the 2021 season. Yet, he didn't get his first taste of action until the 2024 season against Mercer, when he completed the lone PAT attempt of his collegiate career. Within the first five days of fall camp, Nunez found it too soon to make the call for who receives the starting nod, but noted that he tries to keep reps even and he's seeing the "guys separate themselves." "That first scrimmage, we'll start narrowing things down," Nunez said. Emilee Smarr covers Alabama basketball and Crimson Tide athletics for the Tuscaloosa News. Alabama football players swap cleats for bowling shoes, crown Zabien Brown best on the team

Alabama football players Qua Russaw and Zabien Brown picked up another sport over the summer. A select group of Crimson Tide defenders have spent the last few months slinging bowling balls, and Russaw told the Tuscaloosa News at media day that Brown is the "best bowler" on the team by far. Brown confirmed that report during team press conferences on Wednesday. "Before camp started like that, we was probably going every day," Brown said. QTNA: Has Alabama football decided on starting kicker? Special teams coordinator Jay Nunez says 'no' MORE FROM MEDIA DAY: Ryan Williams ditched nail polish this summer, but will it return for Alabama football season? The guys even bought their own balls. "Just a level of bonding that was real fun," Brown continued. "Those games, they get up there, though. 180, 200s. They get serious." What is Alabama football defensive back Zabien Brown's best score on the bowling alley? Brown believes his best score so far is a 194 and he hopes to splash 200 sooner than later, but acknowledged that football is the main focus right now. "When we get back to it...I'm probably a little rusty right now," Brown said. Russaw would tell you that Brown was being humble about his skill, though. "We just came to the bowling alley and he's just curving it, spinning it," Russaw explained to the Tuscaloosa News. Russaw learned how to curve the ball ahead of media day, but he noted Brown wasn't giving away any of his own tricks of the trade. In fact, Russaw and defensive lineman James Smith spent extra time at the bowling alley to "improve their game." Even without Brown in attendance. There's no official Alabama football bowling championship set at present. While the season is weeks away, it isn't out of the question. According to Brown, there's still time to catch the guys at the alley. Although the Crimson Tide kicks off the 2025 season at Florida State on Aug. 30, their bowling passes don't run out until September.
