Major M62 delays after lorry crash

Drivers have been warned of major delays on the M62 after a lorry crash which caused fuel to leak onto the road. The vehicle hit the railings on a bridge on the A49 Newton Road, in Warrington, which caused the fuel to spill over the motorway. The M62 has been closed in both direction within junction nine as a result and could be shut for several hours, Cheshire Police said. A National Highways spokesman said traffic is being diverted onto exit and entry slip roads, with delays of up to 45 minutes expected. A police spokeswoman said there were no reports of injuries after the lorry crashed earlier. National Highways said its service providers are on scene to assess the road surface and damaged to the barrier. A spokesman said there are delays of 45 mins on the eastbound section on the M62 and congestion is around three miles, while westbound there are delays of 20 mins and congestion is two miles. Expect traffic disruptions in Minneapolis, Eden Prairie this summer due to construction

Major roadwork and closures will affect traffic in Minneapolis and Eden Prairie this summer, with key routes seeing lane restrictions and detours. Both directions of Interstate 94 between Interstate 35W and Huron Boulevard will be closing this weekend for maintenance. "Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday night, the 13th, we're going to be closing ramps on I-94, from 35W and Huron Blvd. At 10, we will be shutting down both sides of the interstate," said Kent Barnard with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, several ramps will be closed for the weekend, including: I-94 bridge (Dartmouth Bridge) that spans the Mississippi River Riverside Ave. bridge over I-94 I-94 over Cedar Ave. I-94 over the Light Rail Transit (Blue Line) I-94 over Hwy 55/Hiawatha Ave Drivers will have to detour to I-35W, Highway 36 and Interstate 35E. The road will reopen Monday at 5 a.m. "There will be delays, but if people use the alternate routes and avoid this area, the delays shouldn't be unmanageable," said Barnard. For more information on the I-94 project, detours and other relevant information, click here. In Eden Prairie, lane closures will affect Highway 212 and Highway 5 between Eden Prairie Road and Interstate 494 as crews begin erosion control work. The ramp on Mitchel Road to westbound Highway 5 will be closed starting Monday. Starting Tuesday, crews will begin resurfacing road shoulders, causing additional closures. Later in the summer, significant disruptions are expected as crews begin repairing concrete pavement, with one direction of traffic being closed at a time. Baltimore Beltway construction project aims to ease traffic congestion by 2028

The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) says that it will take a few more years to ease the heavy traffic along the Baltimore Beltway. Once the 38-mile construction project is finished on Interstate 695, a Part-Time Shoulder Use (PTSU) lane during peak travel times is expected to reduce traffic congestion. "We're working very hard with our contracting partner to get this done quickly," said Will Pines, Maryland's State Highway Administrator. "So that the benefit of that additional travel lane during peak periods will be available to help everybody save time." Tech-driven traffic relief Construction is currently focused on the stretch between I-70 and I-83. Eventually, the project will extend from Lillian Holt Drive, just south of the I-95/I-695 interchange, and cover nearly the entire Beltway. Officials say the goal is to give drivers an extra travel lane during morning and evening rush hours. "During peak periods, morning and afternoon rush hour in particular, there's an extra lane to move congestion faster," said Sean Campion, the deputy director of SHA. A major feature of the project is a new Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)—a high-tech solution designed to detect obstructions such as crashes, stalled vehicles, or debris. The system will send real-time alerts to SHA's operations center, allowing staff to redirect cameras and make informed decisions about managing traffic flow and lane availability. "We'll be able to tell if there was a disabled vehicle, an accident or debris in the roadway either before we open the PTSU lane or while we're running the PTSU lane, 24/7," Campion said. Timeline and delays The project was delayed in part by a deadly crash in March 2023 that killed six highway workers. Despite the setback, officials remain optimistic about the long-term benefits. The section of I-695 between I-70 and I-83 is expected to be completed by late summer 2027. The remaining 19 miles of the Beltway are slated for completion in 2028.
