Andhra Liquor Scam: Ex-Intelligence Chief Named in Supplementary Chargesheet

Hyderabad: The Special Investigating Team probing the alleged Rs 3500-crore liquor scam in Andhra Pradesh has named former Andhra intelligence chief, IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu and consulting firm KPMG in a supplementary chargesheet. The 134-page supplementary chargesheet filed in the ACB court, gives new details of the alleged conspiracy that reportedly sheds light on the money trail and the proceeds of the illicit funds. Using call data records, the chargesheet claims that PSR Anjaneyulu had made 65 calls to a key accused within a two-hour window on a single day, indicating a potential connection to the scam. The supplementary chargesheet also highlights the role of Dr. Rajat Bhargava, an IAS officer and former Special Chief Secretary of Revenue, as a key whistleblower. The document says that Dr Bhargava made several attempts to alert the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) about malpractices in the excise department. However, according to the SIT, a specific directive came from the CMO, with Dhananjay Reddy allegedly instructing Dr Bhargava not to take any action. The SIT claims that consulting firm KPMG was hired to lend credibility to a deliberately flawed excise policy. The chargesheet alleges that KPMG officials met with the alleged key conspirators multiple times to draft a favourable policy. The most crucial element of this conspiracy, the manual indenting process, which allegedly favoured certain vendors, was a suggestion given by KPMG, it declares. The supplementary chargesheet details how the ill-gotten funds from the scam were routed and invested in assets. Raj Kasireddy, named accused no 1, allegedly used scam money to acquire 11 parcels of land, totalling over 30 acres in the Ranga Reddy district and Hyderabad. The SIT identifies Balaji Govindappa as a key conduit in the scam, detailing his role in the entire money trail. The chargesheet specifies that Govindappa used liquor scam money to purchase immovable assets in Bansuwada and three other locations, often in the names of his family members. The chargesheet alleges that Dhanunjaya Reddy and Krishna Mohan Reddy, who were in the CMO at that time, had allegedly purchased substantial assets, and it specifies the dates of purchase and the source of the transferred funds. The SIT claims that the houses of key accused like Chanakya were used as 'safe houses' for money logistics related to the scam. The chargesheet provides details of the first few meetings to set up the scheme, which took place on October 13, 2019, in which Vijay Sai Reddy, Raj Kasireddy and Vasudeva Reddy allegedly participated. These details were reportedly established using call data records.

70-yr-old arrested in Raj CMO bomb threat case

Jaipur: A 70-year-old accused has been arrested by the Rajasthan Police after the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in Jaipur received a bomb threat on Monday, an official said. The official said that the bomb threat put the security agencies on high alert, adding that the alert was reported to the police control room, following which senior officials were informed, and multiple agencies were deployed to the spot. He added that a thorough search was conducted, but no suspicious object was found. Meanwhile, DCP South Rajarshi Raj said that the threatening call was received at around 12:30 pm. The caller claimed he would blow up the CMO with a bomb. The information was immediately shared with all concerned officials, and security teams were activated. However, a cyber team traced the caller's location through his phone number and arrested the 70-year-old accused, identified as a drug addict. He is being brought to Jaipur for interrogation. On July 26, the CMO had also received a bomb threat via an email sent to Jaipur airport, warning of explosions at both the CMO and the airport. The threat also turned out to be a hoax after investigation. Jaipur has witnessed a spate of bomb threats in recent months, all of which turned out to be hoaxes after investigation. On 16 June, The Palace School at Jaleb Chowk received a bomb threat via email. As the school was closed, the message went unnoticed until the next day, when the administration informed the police. On 30 May, threats were issued against the Mansarovar Metro Station and two courts - the Jaipur Metro Court and a Family Court. Both courts received threatening emails. The Family Court was searched for nearly four hours, while the Jaipur Metro Court was cleared after an hour-long search. Between 8 and 13 May, Sawai Mansingh Stadium was repeatedly targeted with threats. The email on 13 May not only warned of a blast but also demanded justice for a rape victim. On 9 May, Jaipur Metro authorities received an email threatening to blow up both the metro station and the train, citing the 'success of Operation Sindoor.' No explosives were found in any of the cases.

50-yr-old threatens to blow up CMO, arrested

Jaipur: City police Monday arrested a 50-year-old man from Jhunjhunu barely an hour after he rang up the police control room, warning of a bomb inside the chief minister's office (CMO) in Jaipur. DCP (south) Rajarshi Raj Varma said the caller, identified as Sanwar Mal Saini, made the threat around 12:30pm. By 1:30pm, cyber teams traced his location to Jhunjhunu, and the local police were alerted to detain him. "We coordinated with Jhunjhunu police for a swift operation. He was rounded up without resistance," Varma said. The caller claimed to be a well-wisher of chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and alleged that a bomb had been planted inside the CMO. Immediately after the call, senior officials were informed, and multiple agencies, including bomb disposal units, were dispatched to the CMO for an extensive search. The premises were combed for explosives or suspicious objects, but nothing was found. While the motive remains unclear, Varma said preliminary inputs from locals suggest Saini is a habitual drinker prone to mischief when intoxicated. He is also suspected to be addicted to drugs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 3-Bedroom Container Houses for Seniors in South Africa LocalPlan Search Now Undo Police suspect the threat may have been a drunken prank but are not ruling out other possibilities. The latest threat comes just weeks after a similar scare on July 26, when an email warned of explosives at both the CMO and Jaipur airport. That alert, too, turned out to be false after thorough checks. Officials said repeated hoax threats not only waste resources but also stretch security forces and disrupt routine functioning. In Monday's case, the control room relayed the threat to all police wings, triggering a coordinated response. "Every such call is treated as credible until proven otherwise. The priority is to neutralise any potential risk," an official said. Saini is being brought to Jaipur for questioning. Police are examining whether he acted alone, under influence, or at someone's behest. Officials also plan to check his call records and past activities. Police warned that issuing hoax threats to critical govt installations is a serious offence that invites strict legal action under multiple BNS sections.
