OnePlus brings AI Plus Mind to OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R: All you need to know

Mint7 days ago
OnePlus first introduced its new Plus Mind feature with the OnePlus 13s, but the AI-powered 'memory palace' is now coming to the flagship OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R. OnePlus says the feature is rolling out as part of a software update starting today and will reach all OnePlus 13 and 13R devices in the coming weeks.
On the OnePlus 13s, OnePlus replaced its iconic alert slider with a customisable Plus key that triggers Plus Mind on the device. Since the OnePlus 13 and 13R do not have this key, OnePlus has implemented a workaround: users can now trigger Plus Mind using a three-finger swipe-up gesture, which is essentially the opposite of the screenshot gesture on most Android devices.
OnePlus says swiping up to open Plus Mind will allow users to analyse on-screen content and suggest actions like adding calendar events for key dates, while also saving captured data within the Mind Space. In my experience with the OnePlus 13s, Plus Mind felt like an elaborate screenshot tool, with AI summarising the content on the screen. The useful part, however, is that these captures can now be found using natural language search within the AI search bar—so if you are worried about forgetting something important, a Plus Mind capture can help you retain that information.
Meanwhile, OnePlus also announced that other AI features introduced with the OnePlus 13s—such as AI Translation, AI Screen Translation, AI Search, AI Reframe, AI Perfect Shot, and AI VoiceScribe—have now been rolled out to the flagship lineup as well.
There is no clarity yet on whether the revamped OnePlus dialer, which debuted with the OnePlus 13s, will be coming to these devices.
Notably, OnePlus had also brought the Plus Mind to its recently launched OnePlus Nord 5 which comes with the same Plus Key as the OnePlus 13s.

WhatsApp to show ads in status and promote channels in new Beta update

Meta is taking a big step to make money from WhatsApp by testing new ad features and in its latest Android beta update (version 2.25.21.11), the messaging platform has introduced two new tools - ' Status Ads ' and ' Promoted Channels '. These features are now available to select beta users on Android, according to WABetaInfo. Status Ads are similar to the ads you see on Instagram Stories. Business accounts can now post sponsored content that will appear in users' Status feeds. These ads will show up between updates from friends and family but will have a clear "sponsored" label, so users can easily tell them apart from personal posts. WhatsApp is also giving users control over what they see. If someone doesn't want to see ads from a particular advertiser, they can block them, and those ads won't appear again. The second feature, Promoted Channels, will help public channels become more visible in WhatsApp's channel directory. Just like Status Ads, these promoted channels will be marked as "sponsored". When a business or creator pays to promote their channel, it will appear higher in search results, making it easier for users to find and follow them. These changes could be very useful for brands, creators, and organisations who want to grow their audience quickly. It also signals WhatsApp's serious entry into the world of advertising and creator monetisation -- something already common on platforms like Instagram and YouTube. Meta has assured that these ads won't affect users' privacy. The company says all promotional content will only be shown in public areas like Status and Channels, not in private chats. So, your personal messages will remain ad-free. Earlier, in a previous beta update (2.25.19.15), WhatsApp also started testing a feature that lets users download detailed ad activity reports. These reports show which ads were displayed, who the advertisers were, and when the ads were seen. This adds more transparency compared to traditional ad platforms

Punjab Police opens cyber kiosk for malware analysis in Mohali

Chandigarh, Jul 21 (PTI) In a step towards enhancing cybersecurity, Punjab Police on Monday inaugurated a cyber kiosk for malware analysis of mobile devices at the state cybercrime office in Mohali. The self-service kiosk is designed to scan and sanitise Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as USB drives and external storage, from malicious, banned, or unsafe applications and files. Inaugurating the cyber kiosk, Special DSP (cybercrime) V Neeraja said, 'This is a public initiative for the citizens which has been set up at four places — in Mohali and CP (commissioner of police) offices in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. Similar cyber kiosks will be set up in other districts as well." Addressing representatives from public welfare and industry associations, Neeraja emphasised that the kiosk provides a quick, secure and free 24×7 service, with each scan taking just 2-5 minutes. 'There is no risk of data leakage – citizens can safely check their devices for malware and remove threats instantly," she said. The officer also urged people to remain vigilant against cybercrimes and stressed the importance of immediate reporting via the cybercrime helpline – 1930 – or the 'Cyber-Mittar' chatbot on the portal Jashandeep Singh Gill, SP (cybercrime), said the kiosk identifies IMEI details, SIM information and performs quick and deep scans of applications and internal storage. 'Users can uninstall infected apps, delete harmful files, and generate scan reports instantly. The report can be sent to the user's email or stored on a USB device. The system is user-friendly, secure, and operates through a touch screen interface," he said. An official statement said that developed by the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in collaboration with Arishti Info Labs, the kiosk brings malware analysis directly to the public domain without the need for advanced technical skills. The cyber kiosk in Mohali has been set up in collaboration with real estate company Omaxe as part of its corporate social responsibility facility, it said.
