The presenter's show will be reduced from an hour to 30 minutes, and will only air for 30 weeks out of 52.
The changes mean fewer appearances from the sofa queen, who has hosted her self-titled programme since 2010 and been with ITV since the 80s.
Her regular stand-ins, Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh, will provide holiday cover.
Staff are concerned the plans could lead Lorraine to walk away from her popular show.
From January 2026, Lorraine will run daily from 9.30am until 10am for 30 weeks of the year, a change from its current 9am to 10am slot.
While GMB will run from 6am until 9.30am, extending its current slot of 6am until 9am. It will be produced by a dedicated team within ITV News at ITN.
On days when Lorraine is off air, GMB's broadcast will be extended until 10am.
A source told The Mirror: "There are genuine fears among staff that Lorraine may decide to walk if the quality of the show they are putting out declines.
"It's hard to see how standards won't fall….and there are questions over whether Lorraine will want to be associated with that.
"Lorraine and her team are perfectionists - it's why the show is loved by so many."
Lorraine host reveals health update after emergency surgery and having to pull out of live TV hours before going on air
The source added that the move was a 'kick in the teeth' for the show.
A second insider added: 'This is a presenter who has just come back from having an operation, has won a BAFTA, is enjoying record ratings….and then ITV show their appreciation by yanking her off air half the year.
"Staff are beside themselves, and have been in tears constantly.
"It doesn't make any sense given the trajectory the show is on."
Although Lorraine is yet to comment publicly on the cuts, yesterday she put on a brave face as she relaxed in her garden in photos on Instagram.
She said in an upbeat message to fans, shortly before the announcement: 'The sun is shining, I'm on the mend, and it feels so good to be getting back in the garden."
Lorraine underwent 'preventative' surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes.
After a brief recovery period, she was back on our screens on Monday.

He told viewers: "I'm at the end of my cancer journey. There is no treatment I can have anymore." During Friday (June 6th) night's episode of James Whale Unleashed, the two presenters spoke to a guest who had been through cancer with her late husband. James told her: "Until very recently, everything was quite normal for me, everything was fine, and then you do get to a stage like I am now, with things get to be very very difficult." He then added: "To anybody else who is in the final stages of cancer, you have my sympathy. I know exactly what you're going through, I do know, I look basically okay, I get told you look alright and I look okay, it's all make-up." James' comments were shared on X, formerly Twitter, where the star was inundated with support. One user penned: "My heart goes out to you Mr Whale. You are a fighter." A second person gushed: "I'm also stage 4 kidney cancer but you are a real inspiration. I seriously can't believe how much better you look compared to 2 weeks ago!" While another user wrote: "You're amazing James! Keep showing the C who's boss!" In May, James chose to spend his 74th birthday in the company of his friends and family. Lizzie Cundy, a contributor on his TALK show, shared a heartfelt tribute to Instagram from the intimate gathering. She wrote: 'Laughter is the best medicine … Birthday celebrations for my dear friend @jameswhaleradio with @lamontbrownnadine @charliem_obe @simonwi @whodathoughtit .. Happy birthday dearest James, we all love you so much.' The post featured beaming smiles, with James surrounded by his wife Nadine Lamont-Brown, 59, TV producer Simon Withington, 48, and Pimlico Plumbers founder Charlie Mullins, 72. Posing for a photo at boutique Kent hotel, Who'd A Thought It, James wore aviator sunglasses and a white shirt for his big day. Trump crushes 'peace talk' hopes with Musk as he insists Elon has 'lost his mind' and 'vows to get rid of his Tesla' Lizzie also shared some playful snaps from the hotel's grounds, posing with a saxophone alongside Charlie. James appeared in high spirits in a video posted by Lizzie too. He cheekily asked her: 'Who are you? Lizzie, I didn't recognise you with so many clothes on.' Speaking candidly on camera, James said: 'I'm feeling okay. As people know, I'm not about to die - well, you never know, do you? "I've had all my treatment. I don't want anybody feeling sorry for me, I'm just giving you the lowdown. "I think if I make it to Christmas, I'll be exceptionally lucky. "Sometimes I think it might be easier to just have a heart attack and go.' As his wife joined him, Lizzie added: 'People think of James as Mr Nasty, but he's a little pussycat underneath.' Nadine agreed: 'No one's ever been nicer to me than James.' James also revealed his long-running programme could be coming to an end within weeks, as he reaches the final stage of his battle. 6 Lizzie Cundy made sure James enjoyed his 74th birthday Credit: Instagram/@jameswhaleradio

Holly Willoughby's plans unveiled as she's left without upcoming TV show
Holly Willoughby has been an ITV staple for the last few decades but it looks like she won't be on our screens in the near future Holly Willoughby's career plans for the future have reportedly been unveiled as she's been left without an upcoming TV show. The star has been a staple on our screens for years but it seems that she hasn't got any upcoming projects for us to look forward to. The 44-year-old is now at a point in her career where she hasn't got a programme lined-up for the first time in 21 years. This comes as her usual presenting gig on Dancing On Ice has come to an end as the show has been axed. Holly's other job hosting Bear Hunt with Bear Grylls also won't be happening again as that's been axed as well. She has also chosen to leave You Bet! which means Stephen Mulhern will be hosting the show alone. It has been reported that Holly's husband Dan Baldwin is working on a reboot of Record Breakers which means Holly could be in with a chance of a presenting job. The Sun reported that a source said it would make "perfect sense" for Holly to be up for the role. They said: "Record Breakers is likely to be a prime time hit and it would make perfect sense for Holly to take the reins. She has worked alongside Dan before and the pair know what it takes to make great telly." Holly has also been in amongst a few names that could be hosting the reboot of Cilla Black's Blind Date. Other celebs that could be up include Claudia Winkleman and Davina McCall. Another show Holly is being looked at for is a new Channel 4 programme where new undiscovered singers are found. Holly first returned back to TV last year after taking an 18 month break. It has also been reported that ITV are keen to keep Holly as she recently met with Katie Rawcliffe, director of entertainment and daytime about future opportunities. An insider revealed: "Holly always intended to lock in new presenting roles for ITV, which has been her home for so long. She didn't have anything confirmed earlier this year just due to the way the cards had fallen, but there are a string of exciting projects on the table and 2025 is looking good for Holly. "Holly is looking to the future and this week's meeting was a big part of that. It won't be a return to daytime programming but new entertainment formats." The meeting coincided with a documentary about Holly's kidnapping airing. Holly declined to participate in Channel 5's documentary, The Plot To Kill Holly Willoughby, which told the story of the plot by obsessed security guard Gavin Plumb to kidnap, rape and murder her. The traumatic experience is what led her to step down from her role on ITV1's This Morning and take a break from television altogether.
