'Jeep Fans, Don't Worry:' The V-8 Wrangler Won't Die After All
But after seeing serious demand, the company extended production of the 392 for another model year. Now, Jeep's extending production of the Hemi-powered Wrangler yet again. And there are more V-8-powered Jeeps on the way.
"After being out at the Rubicon Trail, it's clear just how much people love the roar of the 392," CEO Bob Broderdorf told reporters at a media event on Thursday. "With all that love, how could we 86 the V-8?
"Jeep fans, don't worry, the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, will have a home at Jeep," Broderdorf continued. "We will extend the availability of the 392 Wrangler, and in fact, we will tap the power and performance of the Hemi across Jeep products as new projects are already underway."
It's unclear if the Wrangler 392 has been extended for another model year or if it will remain in the Wrangler lineup for the foreseeable future. There's also no word on which Jeeps could receive Hemi power going forward, though with a range of large SUVs in the company's lineup, we wouldn't be surprised if it quickly proliferates across Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer product lines.
The Hemi's renewed favorability at Jeep doesn't come as a shock, given similar sentiment across the greater Stellantis lineup and fast-disappearing emissions regulations. Ram was first
to bring back the Hemi
, adding it back to its hugely important 1500 pickup, which
proved explosively popular
. Though sister brand Dodge hasn't announced anything official, we suspect it's only a matter of time before the Hemi appears in the current Charger.
Jeep didn't drop any clues on when we might see more Hemi-powered SUVs in its lineup, though considering how quickly Ram was able to reactivate the V-8 trim for the 1500, it's possible we can see more eight-cylinder Jeeps in showrooms by early next year.
Anthony Alainz contributed to this report.

PGA Tour returns to Maryland course that will be more challenging this time
The PGA Tour returns to Maryland: Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills will host the BMW Championship beginning Thursday. The course has changed extensively since the tournament last came to Caves Valley in 2021, when the winning score was a whopping 27 under par. The changes — part of a renovation done over 100 days in 2023 — are meant to make the course more challenging.

Delays expected in Stockton as major construction project begins on Benjamin Holt Drive
Heavy equipment is tearing up the ground along Benjamin Holt Drive in Stockton. It'll be a sight and sound familiar to the area for at least the next three months as crews ramp up construction on three major projects along the same busy stretch. "That street is in horrible condition," Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi said. "The one thing we've heard from residents over and over again is, 'When are you going to fix these streets? When are you going to resurface them?' Well, this is going to go through an entire resurface in that stretch." The nearly two-mile construction project along Ben Holt Drive runs through both county and city limits. Because of this, they are working together to make this project as smooth as possible. "We're trying to be better and proactive to collectively get out there and tell the citizens what's happening and when it's happening," District Two Supervisor Paul Canepa shared. "We've been doing outreach on not only the water main ones, but as far as sending out little texts telling people, 'Hey, we're closing the road, and this is what the timeline is.'" San Joaquin County is working to resurface the portion from Plymouth Road to Gettysburg Place, but not before it replaces the water main underground from Pershing Avenue to Gettysburg Place. The city of Stockton is responsible for the street resurfacing from Grigsby Place to Plymouth Road around and underneath Interstate 5. "For longevity purposes, the only thing you can really do to improve the street is a resurfacing where you grind it down and put a fresh layer of asphalt," Fugazi explained. "Not just one, you put several layers so you don't have to worry as much about cracking and potholes." While months of lane closures and loud construction work may not sound great to neighbors, they are excited to eventually drive on a road that is pothole-free. "Where we are, you know, right here in the Pershing, Lincoln Center area, it's pretty good," Stockton resident Mike Downing said. "When you get over by I-5, it was definitely a little patchy and a little rough going over there, so I'm glad that they're taking care of it." The next temporary intersection closure will happen at Pershing Ave and Ben Holt Dr, starting Saturday at 8 a.m. to Sunday at 8 p.m. Construction for all three projects will wrap up by the end of the year, hopefully by November.
