Cricketer Sarfaraz Khan drops 17 Kg, shares before-after pic that stuns fans

Mint4 days ago
After being snubbed for the high-profile England Test series, Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan has undergone a remarkable transformation off the field, shedding 17 kilos in a determined effort to silence critics and reclaim his spot in the national side.
Despite a strong start to his Test career and a stellar domestic record, the 27-year-old was overlooked for the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, with selectors opting for Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair. Sarfaraz, who was part of the squad during the Australia tour but didn't get a game, was again sidelined, with coach Gautam Gambhir favouring Washington Sundar on seam-friendly pitches.
Fitness, particularly weight, has long been seen as a hurdle in Sarfaraz's international journey. While his batting credentials were rarely questioned, concerns over his physique delayed his India debut and continued to cast a shadow over his selection prospects.
Now, Sarfaraz is working hard to change that narrative.
The Mumbai batter recently shared a photo on Instagram showing his leaner frame, revealing he had lost 17 kilos. The transformation was met with praise from fans, who lauded his dedication and discipline.
After missing the England series, Sarfaraz did travel to the UK with the India A side. He scored a gritty 92 in the first unofficial Test but was left out of the next match to make room for KL Rahul's return to the XI.
Sarfaraz's father and coach, Naushad Khan, spoke about his son's weight-loss journey in an interview with Hindustan Times earlier this year, revealing the drastic dietary changes the family made together.
'We've completely cut out roti, rice, sugar, maida, and bakery items,' he said. 'We eat broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, salads, grilled chicken, fish, boiled eggs, avocados, sprouts — and drink green tea and green coffee. It's been over a month since we touched roti or rice at home.'

Why bizman Sunjay Kapur's death has sparked a feud, corporate power struggle

Over a month after businessman and actor Karisma Kapoor's former husband Sunjay Kapur died of a heart attack while playing polo in London, his mother Rani Kapur has written to the board of directors of family-owned auto components firm Sona Comstar — a part of Indian conglomerate Sona Group — suggesting that she had been 'forced to sign documents behind locked doors' and 'left to the mercy of a select few for survival'. The letter was written by Rani Kapur hours before an annual general meeting (AGM) of the company was scheduled for Friday. The letter, in which Rani identified herself as the majority shareholder of the Sona Group, stated: 'I was approached multiple times and compelled to sign various documents without explanation or even having time to read and understand the same. Despite being under immense mental and emotional distress, I was coerced into signing such documents behind locked doors… the contents of such documents have never been revealed to me.' In the letter, which was also copied to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Rani also alleged that she has lost access to all her bank accounts. 'Please also take note that I have been totally denied access to my accounts and have been left to the mercy of a select few for survival. All this, in less than a month of my only son passing away,' she said. Rani further said that her late husband, Surinder Kapur — the founder of Sona Group, who had passed away in 2015 — had, via a will dated June 30, 2015, made her the sole beneficiary of his estate and also a majority shareholder of the Sona Group. 'It is unfortunate that while the family and I are still in mourning, some people have chosen this as an opportune time to wrest control and usurp the family legacy,' she wrote while requesting that the AGM be postponed by two weeks. She further alleged that in the AGM, a resolution would be passed to appoint certain directors in the company as representatives of the Kapur family, without her involvement. 'Unfortunately, once again, nothing has been told or explained, let alone discussed with me regarding the same by the company or people involved,' she said. Rani, who is being represented by senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar and advocate Smriti Churiwal, added that she had 'not given any consent or officially nominated any person to come on the board of the company or any other Sona Group company after my son's demise or given any consent to any person to represent me in any capacity before the company and or any other Sona Group company'. The Indian Express has learnt that Sona Comstar, while denying all allegations, has said that it did not defer its AGM — which was 'scheduled in full compliance with the law' — despite the request from Rani Kapur, as she is not a shareholder in the company. On June 12, Sunjay Kapur died at the age of 53 following a heart attack. Some reports claimed that he had swallowed an insect while playing polo, which possibly sent his body into shock.

Mysore Masala Waffle Dosa Is The Latest Food Experiment On The Block

Dosa, a traditional South Indian delicacy, is cherished by food lovers across the country. From street-side stalls to upscale restaurants, this thin and crispy treat can now be found in many regions of India. The dish, made with fermented rice and lentil batter, is typically served with sambar (a spicy lentil-based vegetable stew) and chutneys. Like several other Indian delicacies, Dosa has often been the subject of bizarre experiments by street food vendors. In a similar experiment video, we stumbled upon a dish that turned out to be a combination of dosa and waffles. The reel shared on Instagram featured a street food vendor brushing the waffle maker with oil. Next, he poured the dosa batter into the iron skillet. We do not get to see what goes into the making of the batter. Then, the vendor evenly spread out the batter on the waffle surface and added shredded cabbage and capsicum to it. After cooking it for some time, he served the waffle dosa with sambar, coconut, mysore chutney and potato masala. The extra crunch and browning." Another added, "Heavy meal." "Uthappam in the form of waffle," remarked a user. Someone commented, "Waffle laughing in corner." A viewer penned, "Is nobody concerned about the amount of rust on the waffle maker?" "Just call it masala waffle! Why call it dosa? The whole point of dosa is it's made on a tawa. You don't call idli steamed dosa do you? Or paniyaram made of dosa batter a ball dosa? This is funny," read a comment.

'Hell be driven to make it to number one': Pope on Root toppling Tendulkar as top run-getter in Tests

Manchester [UK], July 26 (ANI): England batter Ollie Pope felt Joe Root could go on to break the record of legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run getter in Test cricket after Root surpassed former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run scorer in the longest format. Root achieved this feat in the fourth Test at Old Trafford cricket ground on Friday. Root was removed by World No.1 all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for a brilliant 150 in 248, consisting of 14 fours. "I'm sure if his body allows, I'm sure he'll have the hunger to play. I'm not sure how many games he needs, the way he's batting. He'll obviously be driven to make it to number one, but I think he just wants to keep playing as long as he can. The excitement he still has to play Test cricket, whenever we rock up at the start of the series, he's always got the biggest smile on his face. So I think the hunger he has for it, I wouldn't be surprised if he can chase him down," Pope told the media. He also praised Root's 150-run innings and said it was exactly what England needed. "Knock like today, I think exactly what the team needed. Pretty flawless, didn't really give away any chances, and just played his game. And I think, yeah, the way he goes about his cricket, the way he trains, the amount of runs he's scoring now is just amazing. He's a joy to watch and see how he goes about his stuff. And yeah, obviously just keeps getting better and better," he added. Root continues to shine against India and surpassed Steve Smith's record on Friday for centuries against the Men in Blue. Root has now scored 12 centuries against India. Root now has nine Test hundreds against India at home - the most by any batter against an opponent in home Tests, surpassing former Australia legend Don Bradman's eight against England. Ollie Pope explained that England skipper Ben Stokes experienced cramping in his leg, likely due to the physical demands of the ongoing series. He noted the significant amount of bowling Stokes has done, suggesting he has pushed his body to its limits. "I think he's [Ben Stokes] just cramping down his leg, and I think it managed to spread to his whole leg from what I understand. I think it's probably just a build-up of the amount he's sort of pushed his body over the last four or five weeks. The amount he's bowled, I think, is something that it's the most he's bowled in the series so far. And obviously, we've still got a game to go. So I think he's obviously pushed himself to some serious limits so far," Pope said. Stokes completed 11000 runs in his international career across all formats in his outing against India and remained unbeaten on 77 at the end of Day 3 of the fourth Test. England ended the day at 544/7, leading by 186 runs. Stokes, while he completed his fifty during the final session, went off the field due to trouble in his left leg. But Stokes (77*) came back to bat and, along with Liam Dawson (21*), kept any other possible disaster at bay. Stokes now has 11016 runs in 272 matches across all formats at an average of 35.88 with 18 hundreds and 61 fifties under his belt. Coming to the match, England started off their day at 225/2, with Ollie Pope (20*) and Joe Root (11*) unbeaten. The duo went on to have a century partnership, building on the exploits of openers Ben Duckett (94 in 100 balls, with 13 fours) and Zak Crawley (84 in 113 balls, with 13 fours and a six). They took England to 332/2 at the end of the first session, with both batsmen having scored their fifties. In the second session, while Washington Sundar (2/57) removed Ollie (71 in 128 balls, seven fours) and Harry Brook (3), skipper Stokes and Root thwarted any further resistance from India as Root completed his 38th Test ton and went past Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest Test run-getter. England ended the second session at 433/4, with Stokes and Root unbeaten. Siraj and Bumrah faced fitness issues during the session, having walked off the field; Bumrah contributed only one over with the new ball. Root was removed by Jadeja for a brilliant 150 in 248, consisting of 14 fours. Bumrah and Siraj removed Jamie Smith (9) and Chris Woakes (4) quickly, reducing England to 528/7. Earlier, England opted to bowl first after winning the toss and India made 358 runs, with half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan (61 in 151 balls, with seven fours), Yashasvi Jaiswal (58 in 107 balls, with 10 fours and a six) and Rishabh Pant (54 in 75 balls, with three fours and two sixes) were major contributions for India. Stokes (5/72) struck tough blows on India, never really letting them settle with a massive partnership. (ANI)
