Four-star DL 2026 recruit Valdin Sone narrows his list to eight teams, including Texas The Longhorns are among the finalists for Valdin Sone
One of the top defensive linemen in the 2026 class has narrowed their list to eight teams. On Tuesday night, four-star Valid Sone released his top eight, which included the Texas Longhorns. The other teams that made the cut were Oklahoma, USC, Nebraska, Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina, and Florida.
Sone, originally from Sweden, has been making headlines while playing for Blue Ridge High School in Virginia. While he has only been playing football for a few years, he has impressed scouts nationwide, including On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power.
'Sone had several flash moments on Wednesday," Powers said. " Sone was the only defensive lineman we saw notch a win against Oklahoma offensive tackle signee Ryan Fodje in 1-on-1's during the morning. Sone put Fodje on the ground with a vicious swim move. We later saw the Sweden native make some plays on the interior in the joint practice.'
This week was not the first time he shined with many eyes watching. Earlier this year, he played in the Navy All-American Bowl. During that game, Sone's mobility and ability to fire off the line of scrimmage were on full display, which only helped increase his stock.
Currently, Sone is the second top 20 prospect at his position to include the Longhorns as one of his finalists. The other is Dylan Berymon, who included Texas among his top five. While the Longhorns would love to have both, it is an encouraging sign that they are still on Sone's radar.
The Longhorns will be a program to watch as his recruiting process continues. Over the last few years, defense has been their strength partly due to their ability to get players like Sone and maximize their skills.

Cowboys' Dak Prescott says legacy takes a back seat in Super Bowl pursuit, wants to win for personal 'sanity'

Earlier this year, longtime Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Zack Martin retired after 11 seasons with the team. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering his 10th season in Dallas. Martin's departure made the 31-year-old Prescott the longest-tenured player on the Cowboys' roster. Prescott recently reflected on his career and admitted the past decade has gone by quickly. "It's not hard to be reflective," he said Thursday at the Cowboys' mandatory minicamp. "I think you have to, especially with how [his 10 seasons] have been. Some being injured, some getting to knocking on the door and not finishing it. What it does really is just makes you grateful for the opportunity. Every day you get to walk into this building, you're healthy. Every day you get to approach your teammates. You get to approach this game that you love." The Cowboys finished with a disappointing 7-10 record last season, but the new season will bring changes to the team's roster and coaching staff. Prescott will have a new wide receiver in 2025, George Pickens. Last month, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded Pickens to the Cowboys. The franchise also moved on from coach Mike McCarthy and promoted Brian Schottenheimer to head coach. Prescott has received numerous accolades over the course of his NFL career, including offensive Rookie of the Year in 2015 and leading the league in passing touchdowns in 2023. But he has a 2-5 postseason record and has never made it to a conference championship game or Super Bowl. While Prescott wants to win a Super Bowl ring, he made it clear he is not pursing the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy to secure his personal legacy. "I want to win a championship," Prescott said. "The legacy, whatever comes after I finish playing, will take care of itself. I want to win a championship. Be damned if it's just for my legacy or if it's for this team. It's for my personal being, for my sanity. The legacy will take care of itself. "For me, it's about not taking anything for granted," he added. "Living in the moment, soaking up everything and just making sure I'm the best version of myself to push these other guys to do that. I know we'll feel good about the results." Prescott missed nine games last season with a hamstring injury, and the Cowboys missed the playoffs. Sixers prospect Tre Johnson compared to 2 legitimate NBA scorers

Sixers prospect Tre Johnson compared to 2 legitimate NBA scorers As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for the 2025 NBA draft and weigh all options with the No. 3 pick, there are plenty of avenues they can go down to improve the roster. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey is never one to shy away from making a deal that he feels will help the roster going forward. The Sixers will have a number of players to look at in order to add a good, young player to the roster, and one of those options is Texas product Tre Johnson. Johnson averaged 19.9 points for the Longhorns as a freshman in the tough SEC. He shot 39.7% from deep and played 34.7 minutes per night while being the guy for Texas on a regular basis. ESPN has NBA comparisons for the lottery picks and they compared Johnson to former All-Star guard Michael Redd on the high end and Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas on the low end who are both legitimate NBA scorers. Redd was an All-Star in 2004 and Thomas is a threat to score 40 every night. ESPN on Johnson: Johnson is a fairly simple prospect to understand. He's likely going to shoot it well; he's probably going to shoot a lot; and whatever else he ends up giving his future team will be gravy, not necessarily baked into their expectations. Johnson's clean and compact stroke will make him a threat from long range, and he has flashed ability to get to it off the dribble, with a level of fearlessness required to succeed as a volume scorer but also one that can get him into trouble with shot selection at times. His efficiency inside the paint and finishing will have to improve, too. One has to wonder what the Sixers are thinking. Nobody seems to know--which is a good thing, by the way--as Philadelphia seems to be holding all the cards for June 25. At this point, the Sixers just need to continue doing their due diligence on the prospects and trust that Morey and his staff will make the right decision.

Astros send RHP Forrest Whitley to the Rays for cash

HOUSTON — The Houston Astros traded Forrest Whitley to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash on Friday, sending the struggling right-hander to a new home after he was once a highly regarded prospect. The 6-foot-7 Whitley was selected by Houston with the No. 17 pick in the 2016 amateur draft. He had no record and an 8.44 ERA in eight relief appearances with the Astros over the past two years before he was designated for assignment on Sunday.
