Two players who Chivu worked with plenty during his time in the Inter youth system were attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni and striker Francesco Pio Esposito.

Both of the pair are now back from loans out last season. Carboni was at Marseille before a knee injury cut his season short. Meanwhile, Pio Esposito enjoyed an explosive season with Spezia in Serie B.
Therefore, Chivu will have a chance to assess both of the two young players at the Club World Cup.
The 44-year-old has already gotten excellent performances from both Carboni and Pio Esposito at youth team level.
Therefore, if Chivu likes what he sees at the Club World Cup, they could be candidates to have a part in the Inter senior team next campaign under the Romanian.

Luciano Spalletti says he has been sacked as Italy head coach
Luciano Spalletti says he has been sacked as Italy head coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Spalletti confirmed the news at his news conference on Sunday ahead of Italy's World Cup qualifier against Moldova. That followed increased pressure after Spalletti's side opened their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-0 defeat by Norway on Friday, a result which Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma described as 'not acceptable'. Advertisement Spalletti took charge of Italy in August 2023, replacing Roberto Mancini. He oversaw a difficult 2024 European Championship campaign as they exited with a 2-0 defeat by Switzerland in the round of 16, winning just one match in the tournament. The 66-year-old has won 11 of his 23 matches in charge of Italy. Italy reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Nations League but were ousted by Germany in the quarter-final after a 5-4 aggregate defeat. Four-time champions Italy have not qualified for the World Cup since 2014, despite winning Euro 2020 under Mancini. They sit fourth of five in their qualifying group for the 2026 edition with zero points, but have played one match as opposed to two so far due to their participation in the Nations League. Spalletti led Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2022-23 campaign, the club's first Scudetto in 33 years. (Image)

Today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri report that the Nerazzurri want a return to winning ways, a mental recovery, and a greater focus on youth. Advertisement Inter Milan are on the verge of appointing Cristian Chivu as their new coach. The 44-year-old will reportedly terminate his contract with Parma tomorrow, and then take the reins from Simone Inzaghi. Chivu is not a coach with much senior experience: just thirteen matches at Parma. However, beyond his work at the Gialloblu, Inter trust Chivu on the basis of his time coaching their youth ranks. (Photo by) And according to the Corriere dello Sport, there are three things Inter have asked from Chivu. Naturally, the first would be a return to winning trophies. Last season, Inter were in the hunt for major silverware right until the end of the season. However, they faltered at the last hurdle and ended the campaign empty-handed. Advertisement Therefore, next time out, Inter expect to end the season with something fresh in their trophy cabinet. Meanwhile, the Corriere dello Sport notes, Inter will have to bounce back from an absolutely devastating end to last season. The Nerazzurri suffered a shocking 5-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. And that came just a week after they narrowly lost out on the Serie A title. That end to the campaign has clearly mentally devastated Inter. Therefore, the club want Chivu to change the atmosphere and get the team back on track mentally. Lastly, the Corrirere report, Inter expect more of a focus on youth from Chivu.
