AP leads the way in simplification of laws
At a key meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday, Union secretary (Coordination) of the Cabinet Secretariat and head of the Task Force Committee on Deregulation and Compliance Reduction, Manoj Govil, commended Andhra Pradesh for its proactive efforts. He noted that the state is at the forefront in updating, amending, and simplifying outdated laws to align with the Central government's framework. These measures, he said, are part of a broader national push to reduce regulatory burdens and ensure laws better serve citizens and businesses.
Govil stressed the need for full adoption of the National Building Code and urged states to implement stringent fire safety standards in high-rise structures. He added that such compliance reforms, when implemented effectively, will directly benefit citizens and entrepreneurs alike.
Chief secretary K Vijayanand said that the state has already initiated significant legal changes under the Central government's Jan Vishwas Act, aimed at trust-based governance. As part of this effort, 76 state laws have been reviewed and simplified — including 18 from the excise department, 19 from mines and geology, 21 from labour, factories and boilers, four from the cooperative department, and three from the energy department.
He also noted that the state is embracing technology to streamline governance. Through initiatives like WhatsApp Governance, Andhra Pradesh has made 520 citizen services available online, ensuring faster, more accessible public service delivery. Efforts are ongoing to digitally integrate all departments.
Senior officials, including special chief secretary G Anantha Ramu, principal secretaries Kumar Vishwajith and S Suresh Kumar, Secretaries Dr N Yuvaraj and Pratibha Devi, fire services director Murali and Central and state officials took part in the discussions.

Bangladesh's accusations are misplaced, says Centre
The Union government on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) said that India does not allow foreign outfits to carry out political activities targeting any country from Indian territory. Bangladesh had accused India of hosting Awami League (AL) leaders and described the alleged activities of these leaders as an 'unambiguous affront' to the people and state of Bangladesh. Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs described Bangladesh's concerns as 'misplaced'. 'The Government of India is not aware of any anti-Bangladesh activities by purported members of the Awami League in India or of any action that is contrary to Indian law,' Mr. Jaiswal said. Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh had accused India of allowing 'growing anti-Bangladesh activities' by the leadership of the Awami League which was banned last year after the Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was overthrown in a student-people uprising prompting Ms. Hasina to seek shelter in India. 'Any form of political activity campaigning against the interests of Bangladesh by Bangladeshi nationals, particularly by the absconding leaders/activists of a banned political party, staying on Indian soil, legally or illegally, including the establishment of offices is an unambiguous affront against the people and State of Bangladesh,' said the MoFA Bangladesh. The statement cited an event held at the Press Club of India on July 21 where a civil society outfit with ties with Bangladeshi diaspora spoke about the law and order situation in Bangladesh and distributed books and reading materials during the event and said such activities 'may trigger public sentiment in Bangladesh which may in turn impact the ongoing efforts of the two countries in further enhancing the relationship between the two closest neighbours.' The interim government of Bangladesh has banned Awami League citing the involvement of its top leaders in the crackdown against civilians and students during July-August 2024 before the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina government. Though many Awami League leaders are in hiding, the party maintains a large cadre base who recently clashed with ruling establishment's student supporters in Gopalganj. 'India reiterates its expectation that free, fair and inclusive elections will be held at the earliest in Bangldesh to ascertain the will and mandate of the people,' said Mr. Jaiswal.

Shahjahanpur's Jalalabad town renamed as Parshurampuri
: Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district has been officially renamed as Parshurampuri with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs issuing the notification approving the name change after the Uttar Pradesh government forwarded its proposal. t. Taking to X, he wrote: 'I thank and express my gratitude to Home Minister Amit Shah for approving the renaming of Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur as 'Parshurampuri'. This decision, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is a proud moment for the entire Sanatani community.' Jitin Prasada, the current BJP MP from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, was elected the Congress MP from Shahjahanpur in 2004. His father Jitendra Prasada represented Shahjahanpur in the Lok Sabha for multiple terms. The demand to rename Jalalabad had been raised repeatedly over the years. The town is widely believed to be the birthplace of Lord Parshuram and it houses an ancient temple dedicated to him. The municipal council passed resolutions in March 2018 and September 2023 supporting the name change. In April this year, the Shahjahanpur district magistrate forwarded the council's resolution, along with his recommendation, to the state government. Union minister Jitin Prasada also wrote to the government in April, seeking the renaming in line with people's sentiments. Accepting the proposal, the state government sent its recommendation to the Centre. The Ministry of Home Affairs approved the request and issued a letter of confirmation to the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary on Wednesday. The Uttar Pradesh government had on April 24, 2022, officially declared Jalalabad as the birthplace of Lord Parshuram. The announcement was made by tourism minister Jaiveer Singh on the temple premises. On the occasion, he promised to beautify the temple complex and develop it as a major religious tourism site. Following the declaration, a total of ₹30 crore was sanctioned for developmental works under two schemes. While ₹19 crore was allocated for beautification of the temple premises and improving facilities for devotees, an additional ₹11 crore under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana was sanctioned for cleaning and reviving a 42-acre pond near the temple. The project also includes construction of ghats, steps, pathways and a direct wide road connecting the pond to the temple. Calling it a moment of pride for the Sanatani society, Prasada said the decision has brought honour and joy to the devotees of Lord Parshuram. He added that he considered himself merely a medium in this 'holy work' made possible by divine grace, and prayed for Lord Parshuram's blessings on the entire world. Earlier, Allahabad was renamed as Prayagraj in 2018, months before the 2019 Kumbh. Faizabad district was rechristened as Ayodhya in 2018 as well.

Amit Shah: PM Modi got draft reworked to bring himself under ambit
PM Modi NEW DELHI: It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had the draft of Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025 reworked to include himself in its ambit, home minister Amit Shah shared in a post on X on Wednesday. Sources in the government said Modi added the provision requiring a prime minister who spends 30 consecutive days under arrest or detention for an alleged offence punishable with a prison term extending up to five years or more, to resign on the 31st day, based on the reasoning that moral standards in politics must apply as much to prime ministers as they do to any chief minister or minister at the Centre and in states or Union Territories. The original draft of the 130th Constitutional amendment Bill had proposed to cover only chief ministers and ministers at the Centre and in the states. As per the Bill, introduced by Shah on Wednesday, in case the prime minister does not tender his resignation on the 31st day of his arrest, "he shall cease to hold office from the day falling thereafter". Learn More Undo Dismissing the opposition's charge that the Bill was a ploy by the Modi regime to dislodge state govts by having their chief ministers and ministers removed through arrest in "motivated" cases, a senior govt functionary said that the same provisions apply to the prime minister and Union ministers. The functionary said it was high time that the PM, CM and ministers display character and conduct that aligns with constitutional morality and principles of good governance, and cited the example of govt employees who are deemed suspended if detained in custody for only 48 hours. "Why should bureaucrats/govt personnel alone bear moral responsibility in the event of detention or arrest? Ministers are also public servants and must withdraw from office if arrested for 30 days. They can always rejoin the same post after release," underlined the functionary. He added that the 30-day timeframe is enough for the affected PM/CM/minister to apply for bail and have it heard and decided, right till the last court of appeal.
