Union Minister Pemmasani tours Naxal-hit Chhattisgarh districts; pushes mission-mode development
'We are implementing development in mission mode to ensure every service reaches even the remotest villages,' the Minister said.
He visited villages including Mankeli, Gangaloor, and Cherpal in Bijapur district, where he took part in awareness campaigns and distributed sanction orders under PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) and Ayushman Bharat - PMJAY health cards to beneficiaries.
He interacted with self-help groups (SHGs), Anganwadi workers, and community leaders, stressing the importance of grassroots participation in governance.
Dr Pemmasani laid the foundation stone for a Farmers' Training Centre and inspected the Primary Health Centre and Livelihood Centre. He praised officials and volunteers for their commitment under challenging conditions and encouraged them to maintain consistent engagement with tribal communities. In Kanker and Kondagaon districts, he addressed public meetings, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to transforming conflict-affected tribal regions through inclusive development.
During the three-day visit, he reviewed the progress of flagship schemes such as the Jal Jeevan Mission, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, and Poshan Abhiyaan. He urged officials to enhance inter-departmental convergence to improve delivery outcomes and ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left behind.
Dr Pemmasani also instructed district administrations to identify bottlenecks and fast-track infrastructure projects.
District collectors, elected representatives, and senior officials accompanied him throughout the visit.

New Delhi: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday and discussed the progress of national highway projects and future infrastructure plans in the state. He noted that improving road infrastructure in tribal regions would accelerate development and bring lasting change. The expansion of the road network in tribal regions is key to the Union government's target for eliminating Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the country, including Chhattisgarh by March 31, 2026. To address LWE menace holistically, the Union government approved a 'National Policy and Action Plan to address LWE' in 2015. This policy envisaged a multi-pronged strategy involving security related measures, development interventions, ensuring rights and entitlements of local communities. Specific schemes have also been implemented for LWE affected areas, wherein special emphasis has been given on expansion of road network, improving telecommunications, educational empowerment and financial inclusion in LWE affected areas. More than 11,600 km roads have been constructed in LWE affected areas under two specific schemes till 2022.

Opposition slams NIA for failing to provide the evidence in Malegaon bomb blast case
MUMBAI: The opposition criticised the ruling party for failing to provide evidence against the accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, which led to the acquittal of all seven accused. Former Congress Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said the 2008 bomb blast near a mosque in Malegaon had killed six people and injured over 100, and that even the NIA special court acknowledged this. 'The question remains - why has no one been held guilty or convicted for this crime? Who killed these people in the blast? This shows that the investigating agencies, under the BJP-led government, deliberately withheld evidence that could have established the crime against the accused,' Chavan alleged. He alleged that since the NIA works under Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the special court's order acquitting all seven accused in the case was expected. 'No one is surprised with this order of the court. No one was held guilty in the Mumbai train bomb blast case as well. The High Court had then acquitted all accused because the probe agencies could not find any evidence. And the same, happened in Malegaon bomb blast as well. "As long as these probe agencies are under Amit Shah, such kind of order will be delivered where no one will be guilty. Now, what are you going to do to the victims whose family members were killed in these blasts,' asked Chavan.

Capt. Chowta meets Amit Shah, seeks NIA office in Mangaluru
Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta met Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday and appealed to set up a permanent, fully-equipped NIA office in Mangaluru 'with integrated intelligence coordination and operational capability.' In a letter submitted to the Minister Capt. Chowta said: '...Dakshina Kannada has long been vulnerable to radical and anti-national forces, given its sensitive location along the Karnataka coast and its proximity to known hotspots like Bhatkal and Kasaragod. The ideological remnants of banned organisations such as the PFI have not only persisted but have now rebranded themselves politically as the SDPI to operate under a new facade using democratic spaces to further divisive agendas.' He further worte: 'Over the past decade, Dakshina Kannada has seen a steady rise in terror-linked arrests and extremist activity. In the Praveen Nettaru murder case alone, 21 accused were arrested, including top operatives of the banned PFI who had evaded capture for months. NIA investigations have since uncovered the existence of covert 'service teams' trained to carry out ideological killings...' The letter said that growth of drug mafia in the region has raised serious national security concerns. In March 2025, Mangaluru witnessed Karnataka's largest-ever seizure of MDMA - over 37 kg, valued at ₹75 crore - resulting in the arrest of two foreign nationals tied to an international narcotics syndicate. In this year alone, over 375 NDPS cases were registered in the district, leading to 67 arrests. Capt. Chowta said that the recent proactive actions of the NIA in Mangaluru instilled public confidence and hence he was requesting for a NIA office in Mangaluru. The MP expressed his gratitude to Mr. Shah for his intervention in handing over the investigation into the murder of Suhas Shetty to the NIA.
