LeShon Johnson convicted on six counts of dog fighting in Oklahoma trial
LeShon Johnson, a former NFL running back who once led college football in rushing yards, is now facing serious legal trouble. On August 5, 2025, a federal jury in Oklahoma convicted the 54-year-old of six felony charges for housing dogs used in criminal dog battles.
Having played in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Giants, Johnson could now face severe fines and spend years in prison. Fans who remember him as a 1990s football great have been stunned by these charges.
LeShon Johnson found guilty in Oklahoma for keeping dogs used in fights
The case against LeShon Johnson was brought forward in Oklahoma, where he lives. A federal jury found that he had six dogs that were bred and kept for dog-fighting activities. These were not just any charges, they are felony crimes.
Each one carries a punishment of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. That means Johnson could face as much as 30 years behind bars if given the maximum sentence.
The trial showed evidence that some of the dogs had wounds and scars linked to fighting. Officials said they found equipment and dog cages on his property that are often used in dogfighting setups. Still, Johnson was cleared of 17 other similar charges.

LeShon Johnson's lawyer says he was only breeding dogs, not fighting them
LeShon Johnson's attorney, Billy Coyle, told reporters and the court that Johnson was just a dog breeder. He said his client raised American Pit Bull Terriers but was not running any fighting rings.
'Obviously the jury found that some of his dogs were probably or were used in dog fighting, and those were difficult charges to fight,' Coyle said.

This isn't the first time LeShon Johnson has been connected to dogfighting. In 2005, he pleaded guilty to a similar crime.
The Green Bay Packers selected Johnson in 1994. He grabbed news in college in 1993 by running for 1,976 yards at Northern Illinois University. On the field, he was renowned for his speed and strength. But his name is back in the news years later for a far more sinister purpose. The date of sentencing has not yet been fixed.

'Workload management is nonsense': Former India cricketer blasts Jasprit Bumrah after IND vs ENG series
Jasprit Bumrah (PTI Photo) India recently concluded a 2-2 Test series against England, marking one of their most notable overseas performances. The series featured Jasprit Bumrah 's comeback after recovering from a back injury that had sidelined him during last year's Australia series. Bumrah participated in three out of five matches due to workload management concerns, claiming 14 wickets with two five-wicket hauls. Several cricket legends, including Sunil Gavaskar , have expressed concerns about workload management. Gautam Gambhir's fiery press conferences: Every time the India head coach lost his cool Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil shared his views on workload management during an interaction with Mid-Day. "Workload management is nonsense. You are either fit or unfit, and that's how we [his selection committee] picked teams. We did not entertain this workload business. Modern-day players have all the facilities. We did not have such rehab programmes in our playing days. At times, we carried on playing despite injuries. Let's just say we were happy playing for the country… no naatak," said Sandeep. Poll Should physiotherapists have a say in team selection? Yes, they play an important role. No, selection should be left to coaches and selectors. Patil questioned the BCCI 's stance on workload management and the role of physiotherapists in team selection. "I wonder how the BCCI is agreeing to all this. Is the physio more important than the captain, than the head coach? What about selectors? Are we to expect that the physio will be sitting in selection committee meetings now? Will he decide?" he asked. Patil emphasised the importance of dedication when representing the national team. "When you are picked for your country, you die for your country. You are a warrior. I have seen Sunil Gavaskar bat on all five days of a match, I've seen Kapil Dev bowl on most days of a Test match, and even bowl to us in the nets. They never asked for breaks, never complained, and their careers extended to 16-plus years. I didn't miss the next Test after my head injury in Australia in 1981." Patil cited examples of cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, who consistently performed without requesting breaks. He also mentioned his own experience of playing immediately after sustaining a head injury in Australia in 1981. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

Woman SI held for colleague's suicide
Gaya: A woman sub-inspector in Gaya, Sweeti Kumari, was arrested on Saturday for alleged blackmail that police say drove fellow officer and batchmate Anuj Kashyap to take his own life. Kashyap, posted in the SSP's office as media in-charge, was found hanging at his private residence in Mohan Nagar under Rampur police station on Friday. Both officers joined the Bihar Police in 2019 and were posted in Gaya district. City SP Ramanand Kumar Kaushal, who heads the special investigation team formed to probe the case, said, "A case under relevant sections of the BNS for blackmail and abetment of suicide has been registered against her on the basis of a written complaint from the deceased officer's father, Bhawnath Mishra." In his complaint, Mishra alleged that Sweeti repeatedly blackmailed and pressured his son to marry her, despite knowing he was already married. Kashyap's wife, who is pregnant, is preparing for the UPSC examination in Delhi. The two became close in 2019 while serving at Imamganj police station. Though later posted separately — Sweeti in Belaganj, about 15km from headquarters — they remained in frequent contact. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Can Mental Illness be the Key to Their Creativity? The incident comes months after constable Vibha Kumari died by suicide in Gaya. Commenting on such cases, retired IPS officer M A Kazmi said recent large-scale recruitment of women had changed the police force's composition, but training modules had not been updated to address gender sensitivity and relationship management.
