Qatar Academy hosts Qatar's maiden school triathlon race

Qatar Academy Doha (QAD), part of Qatar Foundation's (QF) Pre-University Education (PUE), hosted the first edition of the triathlon race under the Schools Olympic Program (SOP), at Education City.
The event was organised in collaboration between QF's Pre-University Education and the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), represented by the organising committee of the SOP. The initiative supports Qatar's national vision of promoting sports as a way of life and instilling Olympic values in students.
The sporting event also builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between QF and the SOP organising committee. The agreement seeks to embed the concept of sport as a lifestyle within the school community and to cultivate Olympic values among younger generations by offering competitive platforms that empower students to explore and develop their talents.
The triathlon drew wide participation from students across the country, with competitors representing 12 nationalities from six QF schools and 35 external schools. Participants took on the multi-stage challenge, swimming, cycling, and running, with each course tailored to match their age groups and physical abilities, ensuring an inclusive and engaging experience for all.
Abdulla Shaheen Al-Kaabi, head of Sports at QF's PUE, emphasised that QF is committed to providing holistic educational experiences that expand students' horizons, not only inside the classroom but also through sports and physical activities.
'We were keen to give our students the opportunity to explore triathlon, a sport that combines swimming, cycling, and running, as a new experience that builds physical fitness, self-discipline, and endurance. These are core values we aim to instill in our students.
'The educational and awareness activities that introduced students to this sport during last year's National Sport Day served as a foundation for today's active participation in a real competition. It boosts their self-confidence and helps them acquire new skills in a safe, motivating environment.'
Al-Kaabi noted that the event's purpose goes beyond competition. It provides a platform to discover and nurture students' potential in triathlon. Through strategic partnerships with specialised sports institutions, the initiative aims to further develop their abilities and open new pathways for athletic and professional growth.
'By organising diverse sports competitions and activities, QF ensures an inclusive environment that welcomes all students, regardless of ability or interest, reinforcing the values of inclusion and integration in education,' he added.
Launched in 2007 by the QOC in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Schools Olympic Program (SOP) aims to integrate sports into education, develop student talent, raise awareness of the role of sports in enhancing quality of life, and help build a healthy, well-balanced society.

Ronaldo set to stay at Al Nassr with another World Cup looming
dpa Munich Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly ended speculation about his club future, saying he will continue to play at Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr as he also probably also sets his sights on next year's World Cup. 'Nothing is going to change. Playing at Al-Nassr? Yes,' he was quoted as saying early Monday by multiple reports after captaining Portugal to the Nations League title in Munich. FIFA president Gianni Infantino had recently suggested that Ronaldo could move to a side qualified for the upcoming Club World Cup. Ronaldo on Saturday confirmed talks but said he won't be at the tournament in the United States. On Sunday, Portugal beat Spain 5-3 on penalties to give Ronaldo and his team a third trophy, the others being at Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League. 'I have many titles but there is nothing better than winning with the national team,' the five-time Ballon d'Or winner said. Ronaldo scored the 2-2 equalizer in the 61st minute which eventually set up the shoot-out, but came off in the 88th with an apparant thigh problem. He had also scored the 2-1 winner in Wednesday's semi-final against Germany. The two goals brought his tally to 138, from 221 caps, which are both world records in the men's game. Coach Robert Martinez said that Ronaldo had played a 'decisive role' in winning the title, after some had expressed scepticism whether the veteran still had a lot to give. Martinez has also come under criticism, mainly from the Portuguese media, over not always glorious performances of the team. Ronaldo named the criticism 'unfair,' and Portugal did indeed impress in Germany with well-executed tactics that stopped the resurgent host team and than also the classy Spaniards around their teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. Ronaldo won the duel of the generations agianst the 17-year-old Yamal on the night but they may meet again at next year's World Cup, a title still eluding Ronaldo. Sunday's final showed that Ronaldo can still electrify the fans, and the hosting Americans, Canadians and Mexicans are expected to share the excitement in what would be his sixth World Cup. For Nuno Mendes, the Man of the Match on Sunday with a goal and assist as well as containing Yamal, there is no doubt about Ronaldo's value. 'He helps us a lot. He has a winning mentality. He is a role model. We are happy to have him,' Mendes said.

Qatar's national 3x3 basketball teams make quantum leap in world rankings
Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar national 3x3 basketball team achieved a significant milestone in the FIBA world rankings rising to 18th place with a total of 1,131,976 points, moving up from 23rd and surpassing teams such as Poland, New Zealand, Canada, the Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, the Philippines, and Australia. Meanwhile, the QatarU-23 3x3 national team has made a remarkable leap of 19 places to secure the fifth position in the world with 832,921 points, outpacing established teams like China, Japan, Latvia, Algeria, the Netherlands, and Italy, thus achieving its highest ranking to date, previously being ranked 24th. The impressive progress is indicative of the extensive efforts being made by the Qatari sports system, particularly by the Qatar Basketball Federation. This advancement is a direct result of the strong performances exhibited by both teams in various international tournaments, which have played a crucial role in elevating their global standings and solidifying their status among the elite teams worldwide. This notable improvement in the rankings of the Qatar basketball teams also signifies that the sport is on the brink of a new era of excellence, amidst widespread aspirations for further accomplishments in future events. For his part, Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, QBF Secretary-General, also expressed his happiness with this achievement, describing it as the culmination of a period of hard institutional work and continuous development. Winning two stages and being on the podium in most of the stages reflects our consistent performance.
