Qatar Academy hosts Qatar's maiden school triathlon race

Qatar Academy Doha (QAD), part of Qatar Foundation's (QF) Pre-University Education (PUE), hosted the first edition of the triathlon race under the Schools Olympic Program (SOP), at Education City.
The event was organised in collaboration between QF's Pre-University Education and the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), represented by the organising committee of the SOP. The initiative supports Qatar's national vision of promoting sports as a way of life and instilling Olympic values in students.
The sporting event also builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between QF and the SOP organising committee. The agreement seeks to embed the concept of sport as a lifestyle within the school community and to cultivate Olympic values among younger generations by offering competitive platforms that empower students to explore and develop their talents.
The triathlon drew wide participation from students across the country, with competitors representing 12 nationalities from six QF schools and 35 external schools. Participants took on the multi-stage challenge, swimming, cycling, and running, with each course tailored to match their age groups and physical abilities, ensuring an inclusive and engaging experience for all.
Abdulla Shaheen Al-Kaabi, head of Sports at QF's PUE, emphasised that QF is committed to providing holistic educational experiences that expand students' horizons, not only inside the classroom but also through sports and physical activities.
'We were keen to give our students the opportunity to explore triathlon, a sport that combines swimming, cycling, and running, as a new experience that builds physical fitness, self-discipline, and endurance. These are core values we aim to instill in our students.
'The educational and awareness activities that introduced students to this sport during last year's National Sport Day served as a foundation for today's active participation in a real competition. It boosts their self-confidence and helps them acquire new skills in a safe, motivating environment.'
Al-Kaabi noted that the event's purpose goes beyond competition. It provides a platform to discover and nurture students' potential in triathlon. Through strategic partnerships with specialised sports institutions, the initiative aims to further develop their abilities and open new pathways for athletic and professional growth.
'By organising diverse sports competitions and activities, QF ensures an inclusive environment that welcomes all students, regardless of ability or interest, reinforcing the values of inclusion and integration in education,' he added.
Launched in 2007 by the QOC in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Schools Olympic Program (SOP) aims to integrate sports into education, develop student talent, raise awareness of the role of sports in enhancing quality of life, and help build a healthy, well-balanced society.

Dr Al-Kuwari further highlighted the exemplary contributions of Aspetar's experts, notably Dr Khalid Al-Khelaifi, recipient of the Medical Excellence Award, extending his warm congratulations. He also lauded Dr Mohammed Al-Saey for spearheading the issuance of the AFC's first specialised guideline on sports dentistry—an achievement that significantly elevates the profile of Qatar's medical professionals. The concluding day of the conference featured a series of distinguished presentations, including the integration of artificial intelligence in medical imaging and a comprehensive review of Aspetar's innovative approach to sports injury prevention. Researchers elaborated on data collection methodologies within the Qatar Stars League and the successful adaptation of these methodologies across Asian competitions. Novel research topics addressed challenges in women's sports, emergency medical protocols on the field, and the physiological effects of hot climates on female football athletes. Aspetar's participation culminated with an in-depth showcase of its extraordinary experience during the FIFA World Cup QATAR 2022, highlighting best practices in comprehensive medical coverage for major sporting events, thereby cementing Aspetar's status as a global exemplar in sports medicine. This distinguished involvement reaffirms Aspetar's strategic partnership with the AFC and its role as a leading authority actively shaping the future of sports medicine throughout the continent. Sheikh Joaan's candidature for OCA presidency represents Arab ambition: ACRF
Tribune News Network Doha The Arab Camel Racing Federation (ACRF), headed by Abdullah Al Kuwari and members of its Executive Committee, announced its full support for the candidacy of Qatar Olympic Committee President His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani for presidency of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in the elections scheduled to be held early next year. In an official statement, the federation affirmed that this support stems from 'a firm conviction that the next phase of Asian sports requires leadership with experience, vision, and international standing, fully aware of the diversity of the continent and the unique characteristics of its people, and a balance between development and sporting and cultural identity.' The statement stressed that the federation, which includes a wide Arab membership spanning from the Gulf to the Atlantic, views Sheikh Joaan's candidacy as a real opportunity to redefine the relationship between sports and identity in Asia, in line with the aspirations, history, and conscience of the people. It noted that His Excellency Sheikh Joaan 'has a strong presence in the sporting scene, supporting major events and sports deeply rooted in the popular conscience, such as camel racing, which represents a profound cultural and heritage dimension.' QOC announces 2036 Olympics and Paralympics bid committee leadership
Sheikh Joaan's leadership in helping establish the Olympic Refuge Foundation, with the Qatar Olympic Committee as a founding partner alongside the IOC, stands as a testament to his conviction that sport can serve as a powerful force for solidarity, hope, and inclusive development both regionally and globally. HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani brings to the Bid Committee a distinguished record of leadership in education, innovation, and community development through her role at Qatar Foundation. She has led the strategic partnership between Qatar Foundation and the Qatar Olympic Committee, with a particular focus on expanding access to sport for women and girls and establishing inclusive pathways for participation and professional advancement. As a member of the IOC's Olympic Education Commission, she is advancing the integration of Olympic values into educational and community frameworks across the region through a multilateral partnership between Qatar Foundation, Education Above All, and the IOC.
