Move on from upside-down flag incident, says Chow
GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said all parties should remain calm and move on from the recent incident of the upside-down Jalur Gemilang in Kepala Batas. Commenting on a planned gathering this afternoon, Chow said police had investigated the matter. "The investigation papers have been submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers. The process has been sufficient and complete. "It is time to move on," he said after the inauguration of international chipmaker AMD's new state-of-the-art office and engineering lab in Bayan Lepas here. Chow said Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh was welcome to visit Penang to view the big flag that was put up by the alleged perpetrator of the first incident as an apology. He said Dr Akmal should also enjoy the nasi kandar that Umno youth chief said he planned to have. "We also have durians here. He is welcome to come and enjoy Penang's food. "Just don't cause trouble," he added. The incident sparked public outrage after a video clip of the national flag being flown upside-down outside a hardware store in Kepala Batas went viral. Police have concluded their investigation, and the shop owner claimed it was a mistake during the process of adjusting the flagpole height. The shop owner had said that he was willing to accept whatever consequences. Earlier today, Bukit Aman urged organisers to cancel today's gathering over the incident. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the police took seriously any issue that could compromise public safety and well-being. To date, 38 police reports have been lodged nationwide, 17 in Penang and 21 in other states. The investigation includes offences under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for disseminating offensive content.

Tuan Ibrahim's defamation suit against Rafizi heads for full trial in September
KUALA LUMPUR: The defamation suit between Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli over the approval of a RM2 billion project will go to full trial next month. High Court judicial commissioner Avinder Singh Gill has fixed six days beginning Sept 8 to hear the former environment and water minister's lawsuit against Rafizi. The court fixed the date during case management today. Tuan Ibrahim filed the suit against former economy minister after the latter refused to apologise for his allegation that the former approved a project worth RM2 billion after Parliament was dissolved in 2022. Rafizi had, in a press conference, demanded an explanation from Pas deputy president regarding the status of the Sungai Langat 2 flood mitigation project worth RM2 billion which is allegedly in the process of getting approval. According to Rafizi, based on internal sources, the ministry was negotiating directly with a company, which could not be done by the interim government. Tuan Ibrahim, in a counter statement, said no approval could be given for any financial allocation during the interim government period. He maintained that he had never approved any allocation for any project following Parliament dissolution, and that no party had approached him to request the approval of the RM2 billion project. Tuan Ibrahim described Rafizi's allegations as malicious accusations with distortions of facts and fraud that were aimed at slandering and destroying his credibility ahead of the 15th General Election in 2022. It was reported that Rafizi had claimed that Tuan Ibrahim was in the process of approving a project worth RM2 billion ringgit for a company called Mangkubumi Sdn Bhd through direct negotiations for the Sungai Langat 2 flood mitigation plan. Rafizi also alleged that Tuan Ibrahim was involved in the awarding of projects under the Jana Wibawa Programme.

Court to hear Tuan Ibrahim's defamation suit against Rafizi next month
Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man sued Rafizi Ramli for claiming that the former federal minister had approved the award of a RM2 billion flood mitigation project to an Umno-linked company after the dissolution of Parliament. KUALA LUMPUR : The High Court here has fixed six days beginning Sept 8 to hear former environment and water minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man's defamation lawsuit against Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli over allegations that he 'approved' a RM2 billion project after the dissolution of Parliament in 2022. Rafizi's lawyer Nik Zarith Nik Moustapha said the trial is scheduled to take place from Sept 8 to Sept 11 and Sept 29 to Sept 30. 'The trial will be heard by judicial commissioner Avinder Singh Gill,' he said after case management today. Lawyer Yusfarizal Yussoff appeared for Tuan Ibrahim. Tuan Ibrahim filed the suit claiming that Rafizi had defamed him by suggesting that he approved the award of a RM2 billion flood mitigation project to an Umno-linked company after the dissolution of Parliament. Rafizi had claimed that the Sungai Langat barrier project was the second contract awarded to the same company within six months. Tuan Ibrahim denied the allegation and challenged Rafizi to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. He also said that a caretaker government could not approve any financial allocations as this was against a Treasury circular.
