Nellore: In response to the call given by former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, several youths organised a rally, dubbed as 'Yuvatha Poru' in the city on Monday.
YSRCP Nellore city in-charge and MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy flagged off the rally at old ZP office, which concluded at the Collectorate. Later, the protesters staged a dharna in front of the collectorate, protesting against the government's failure in implementing assurances given to the youth during 2024 electioneering.
YSRCP youth wing district president V Nagarjuna has alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has deceived youth as he failed to implement his promise of providing unemployed dole of Rs 3,000 per month, providing five lakh jobs every year etc. He alleged that due to the failure of the government in paying amount to the colleges under fees reimbursement, college managements declined to issue certificates to students.
YSRCP youth wing State leader C Kishan alleged that youth's future in the State is hanging in balance due to the failure of TDP-led coalition government in providing jobs. He warned of intensifying the stir across the State if the government fails to implement its promises. Later, they submitted a memorandum to DRP Baskar at his chamber.

Independence Day speech: PM Modi urges self-reliance in critical minerals & fertilisers; calls for reduced imports, higher domestic output

PM Modi urges self-reliance in critical minerals & fertilisers India is pushing ahead with plans to achieve self-sufficiency in critical minerals, with exploration already underway at over 1,200 sites, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during his Independence Day address. Speaking from the Red Fort on the nation's 79th Independence Day, he noted that the global focus on minerals such as lithium, cobalt, rare earth elements and graphite has grown sharply due to their role in clean energy, electric vehicles, electronics and solar technology. 'What did not receive much attention till yesterday is on the centre stage today. Self-reliance in critical minerals is very essential for India as well,' PM Modi said. He explained that these resources are vital for sectors ranging from energy and defence to advanced technology, and highlighted the launch of the National Critical Mission to drive domestic exploration and production. The Prime Minister also linked mineral self-reliance to reducing India's energy import bill, saying that foreign dependence diverts resources that could otherwise benefit youth, farmers and rural development. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo 'Now we are working towards becoming self-reliant,' he stressed. PM Modi further urged the nation to achieve atma-nirbhar (self-reliance) in fertiliser production, expressing concern over the heavy reliance on imports of urea and phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers. He called on farmers to use nutrients judiciously to protect soil health and curb demand. 'Indiscriminate use of fertilisers is damaging our soil,' he warned. According to news agency PTI, India imported 56.47 lakh tonnes of urea in 2024-25, down from 70.42 lakh tonnes the previous year, while DAP imports fell to 45.69 lakh tonnes from 55.67 lakh tonnes. Urea production reached 306.67 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, compared to a record 314.07 lakh tonnes the year before. The Centre provides heavy subsidies, Rs 1,77,129.50 crore in 2024-25, to ensure affordable fertiliser prices, with urea sold at Rs 242 for a 45 kg bag, excluding coating and taxes. PM Modi urged industry and youth to innovate and expand domestic production to end import dependence, saying, 'We should not be dependent on others.' Arunachal to fast-track all green energy projects: Khandu

Itanagar, Aug 15 (PTI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday said that the state is on a decade-long mission to fast-track all green energy projects, revive stalled ones, and embrace public-private partnerships. In his Independence Day speech at IG Park here, Khandu said that as the state is advancing towards 'viksit (developed) Arunachal' by 2024, the year marking 100 years of India's independence, people have to look for green energy. 'With unmatched natural potential, Arunachal is becoming India's green energy powerhouse. Our hydropower and critical mineral resources like graphite, limestone, dolomite will power solar panels, batteries, and electric mobility for decades to come," he said. The CM said big projects like the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Project will be ready by May 2026 and the 2,880 Mw Dibang Multipurpose Project is on track for completion by February 2032. The Arunachal government has already declared 2025-35 as the Decade of Hydropower. 'In the next 3 years alone, we will kick off work on new hydropower projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore, adding another 19 GW of capacity," Khandu said. He said these projects are not just about energy; they are about empowerment. The projects will bring in over Rs 4,000 crore annually as free power to the state and Rs 750 crore to support local area development. Every year, nearly Rs 2,000 crore in dividends will flow directly to our state. In addition to better roads, schools, etc, it will generate 30,000 direct jobs in construction and operations. On the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), which has faced stiff opposition from the Adi community, the chief minister said the government is aware of the strategic significance of the project- both India's water and national security. 'The government is also mindful and appreciative of the concerns that have been raised by some of our Adi brothers and sisters. We have been holding detailed consultations with people of all the likely affected areas to allay these concerns," he said. Thanking the people of Riga and Riew villages in Siang district for signing the MoU for support of the pre-feasibility report of the SUMP, Khandu said, 'I assure the people of the Siang region that the government remains committed to holding detailed consultations in future as well." He said Arunachal has already secured issuance of 16,326 carbon credits in 2023-24 due to its immense hydropower potential. Arunachal is in advanced stages of approval of an additional 7,275 carbon credits in 2024-25. Each carbon credit represents the reduction of 1,000 kilograms of carbon emissions – a testament to the government's tangible contribution towards reducing the global carbon footprint. These efforts, Khandu said, are not only critical for the environment but also open up new economic opportunities for our people – especially for our youth, entrepreneurs, and local communities. To this end, the CM said, the government is creating the Arunachal Pradesh Energy Vision and Action Plan 2047 with clear targets for the next 5, 10, and 22 years. Green energy will be our strength, our export, and our identity. PTI CORR NN view comments First Published: August 15, 2025, 16:00 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
