A man has died after being pulled from the sea at a coastal resort while on his 'first holiday' with friends.
The holidaymaker, named online as Aaron Keightley, 29, was taken by the current while enjoying the heatwave in Skegness, Lincolnshire, on Monday, according to an online fundraising appeal posted by his sister.
The county's RNLI Lifeguards told in a Facebook post how they recovered an 'unconscious member of the public from the water south of central beach, after he got into difficulty in the surf.'
It added: 'Despite their best efforts to resuscitate him, the casualty sadly passed away at the scene.
Our thoughts go to the family and friends affected by the incident, along with many of the beach visitors who witnessed the tragic events at the time.'
East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance also attended the incident on Monday afternoon – the second beach fatality in the area in as many days.
On Saturday afternoon a teenage boy vanished from Anderby Creek, between the resorts of Skegness and Mablethorpe. A body was recovered in the early hours of Sunday.
Those tragedies came just a matter of weeks after hero holidaymaker Alexandru Melei, 60, died after wading into the sea at Ingoldmells, also near Skegness, after hearing twin girls screaming for help – only to be overwhelmed by the swell.
The fundraiser set up to help meet funeral costs is aiming to raise £2,200 for 'selfless and loving' Aarron's family, from Leicester.
A message alongside the appeal by sibling Shannon said: 'On 30/06/2025 my brother lost his whole future, he went on his first friends' holiday and lost his life to the sea on Skegness beach!
'The current took him so quickly and there is no fight against the sea!'
Outlining the family's 'heart wrenching pain', she added: 'We really want to give him everything and more and show him how loved and adored he is and always will be, there will never be another person like him'.
She said Mr Keightley would give his last pound and 'deserves a great send-off'.
As she told how her brother would be 'forever 29', the grieving sibling urged people to be careful in the sea 'no matter your size or strength'.
Shannon later posted on Facebook: 'Love you so much brother, heartbroken your(sic) gone, forever 29'.
On Sunday, Lincolnshire Police said in relation to the weekend incident: 'We are saddened to report that a body was found in the early hours of this morning in the search for a teenager who had been reported missing from Anderby Creek.'
The statement added: 'We would like to thank the public's help in allowing emergency services to respond to the incident.
'Our thoughts at this time are with the boy's family.'
Romanian Mr Melei died on May 25 while on a trip to the UK to visit friends. His daughter later told how the ex-army medic had been walking along the promenade with his wife and friend when they heard two girls screaming in the water. The friend managed to rescue one of the children but Mr Melei was overcome by the swell and died in hospital. Both children emerged unscathed.

Drug dealer murdered love rival with help from victim's ex-wife

A drug dealer tortured and murdered a love rival in his own home after being given information provided by the victim's estranged wife. John Belfield, 31, plotted the killing of Thomas Campbell, whose body was discovered bound with extra-strength duct tape in his hallway. Belfield became enraged after Campbell began a relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Demi-Lee Driver. Campbell's estranged wife Coleen Campbell, furious with him for cheating before their split, had shared his whereabouts despite being warned that he would be robbed and 'violence would be necessary'. Belfield led a gang of three men who were captured on CCTV bursting into Campbell's home in Mossley, Greater Manchester, to rob and torture him. They tied him up before mutilating his face and pouring boiling liquid over his genitals. After leaving the 38-year-old father of two to die, Belfield fled to Suriname before he was caught by local police dealing drugs and hauled back to the UK. Ms Campbell previously stood trial in Belfield's absence and was found guilty of manslaughter and conspiracy to rob alongside Stephen Cleworth, 38. Reece Steven, Belfield's right-hand man, was convicted of murder and conspiracy to rob. Campbell's mutilated body was discovered by neighbours the morning after his death when they noticed his front door had been left open and saw blood in the hallway. Duct tape had been wound 'multiple times' around his wrists from a roll bought from a B&Q store in nearby Oldham. He had suffered 61 separate injuries. Prosecutors said Belfield wanted to steal items of value from Campbell's home and was also motivated by personal hostility towards him. A 2023 trial heard Ms Campbell had guided Belfield to the father of her two children by sharing details about his whereabouts. During his trial, Belfield admitted to earning around £2,000 a week dealing cannabis and cocaine, but denied murdering Campbell. Belfield insisted that his contact with Ms Campbell over Instagram in the run-up to the murder had nothing to do with a plan to rob her ex-husband or being 'jealous' about his relationship with Ms Driver. However, jurors heard how he 'very carefully planned' Campbell's killing by placing a tracker device on his car and carrying out reconnaissance on his home. Belfield attacked Campbell with Steven and a third man, who has not been identified. Co-conspirator Cleworth was not present during the murder, but planted the tracker and acted as a driver. Belfield will be sentenced on Friday, but the judge told him the only possible sentence was life imprisonment. Wendy Logan, the District Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said: 'John Belfield was responsible for leading a meticulously planned attack to kill Thomas Campbell. 'Evidence presented by the prosecution made it clear that Belfield had orchestrated this attack and left no stone unturned to ensure it would be successful, including organising surveillance of Campbell's every move and even conducting dress rehearsals for their plans. 'Belfield then took extreme steps to evade justice by removing his fingerprints and DNA from the scene of the crime and fleeing on a plane to Suriname in South America – a country where he had no previous connections. 'Despite the 4,500-mile distance, Belfield remained in constant contact with his co-conspirators during their trial, even offering them advice over text message about their trial strategy.'

Woman who torched neighbour's Land Rover because she thought his rescue badgers killed local cat is spared jail

A WOMAN who torched a neighbour's Land Rover because she thought his badgers killed a local cat has been spared jail. Graham Lee, 56, saw his Freelander destroyed as his furious neighbour attempted to kill the badgers living on his driveway. 5 5 5 Susan Lupton, 63, dubbed her neighbour the "evil badger man" as she believed the animals he cared for had killed another neighbour's pet cat. The arson took place at the coastal village of Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight, causing £18,500 worth of damages with Lee's Freelander destroyed. Another property was also damaged as the blaze spread to a neighbouring house. Police arrived to Lupton, who has bipolar disorder, having a manic episode, telling officers: "I did it, I'm responsible". She has avoided prison after admitting two counts of arson but has been banned from the area. Isle of Wight Court heard how Lupton set fire to Lee's Land Rover on June 20, 2024. She had set fire to a plastic container filled with white spirit before sliding it under the Freelander, according to prosecutor Joanna Staples. The vehicle was completely gutted and a window, guttering, cooker extractor and a tree were all damaged beyond repair on a neighbouring property. Lee, a wildlife volunteer, would leave food out for the badgers on his driveway, tried to put out the blaze himself before firefighters arrived. The badgers haven't returned to the property since the fire, he said. Lupton, who moved to the UK from South Africa in 1980, told police she had started the fire in an attempt to kill the badgers he was looking after. She believed they had killed a cat owned by another neighbour. Lupton also claimed she had learnt how to start the fire from a firefighter friend. The court heard how she had shared posts on her Facebook page claiming Lee was an "evil badger man". Moment dad calmly stretches as he's snared for shaking baby daughter to death In a victim impact statement, Lee said that Lupton was "sick, twisted and a manipulative individual". He added how she had left him constantly checking his security cameras out of fear she may appear on his driveway with some matches. Lee went on to add that his Land Rover was his "pride and joy" and said Lupton's actions had ruined his life. He told the court that Lupton has posted videos online of her throwing bricks at badgers and lacing bowls of food with glass. Neighbour Kavita Hayton, whose home was damaged by the incident, said the attack had left her "genuinely frightened" and in "a state of fear for many months". Lupton's barrister Jonathan Underhill told the court that Lupton had a single conviction for criminal damage on her record and that she had bipolar disorder. He asked the judge to give Lupton a suspended sentence to help with her rehabilitation. Judge James Newton-Price said the victims had suffered a "terrifying experience" and Lupton had developed a "fixation" and had become "irrationally obsessed". The judge added during sentencing: "You say you are horrified for what you've done. "I believe you have a realistic prospect of rehabilitation, and that imprisonment would reverse your progress." Lupton was ordered to pay costs of £1,000 and compensation of £7,835. She was handed two years' imprisonment, suspended for two years and was given a restraining order to stay away from Lee. In addition, Lupton has been banned from the village of Freshwater indefinitely. 5 5
